"Where is your Captain Ke?" Song Yun asked the soldier who was waiting for news at the edge of the pit.
The soldier said, "Our regimental commander led some men down to the river to rescue them, but they haven't come up yet."
Song Yunqian walked to the edge of the pit and shone the torch in her hand. The torch could only illuminate a limited area, and she could see nothing but darkness.
Song Yun squatted down and shouted into the pit, "Captain Ke, can you hear me?"
No response.

Song Yun saw a rope tied to the tree, with the other end hanging in the pit.
