Chapter 183 Lin Yi Requests to Read Books, Possessing Extraordinary Talent

Yuan Bo returned to the educated youth settlement in a daze and lay on his bed awaiting his trial.

After putting down his backpack, Gu Yunze took a cold shower, changed into clean clothes, and felt refreshed.

The two people in the room formed a stark contrast.

By this time, the food factory had already closed for the day. Zhou Huanan went to the canteen for dinner, and when he returned to the dormitory, he saw Gu Yunze washing clothes.

"Yunze's back. Have you eaten?"

Since those educated youths went to work in the factory, they haven't fired a single fire.

Their cooking skills aren't very good, and it's too much trouble, so they might as well just eat in the cafeteria.

Gu Yunze was unaware of this, and Zhou Huanan was worried that he wouldn't have anything to eat.

"We haven't cooked lately. If you're hungry, I can get you some biscuits."

Zhou Huanan has an older brother-like personality; he always wants to take care of everyone.

Even if you take care of someone like Xu Kunpeng, he'll still be an ingrate.

Gu Yunze was grateful to him, but still said, "No need, I'm going to the Lin family for dinner tonight."

As his roommate, Zhou Huanan knew about Gu Yunze and Lin Yu's relationship.

Hearing this, he nodded: "We should go and sit down."

After all, he's a prospective son-in-law, so I still need to be polite.

He then asked, "Did you bring anything back as a gift?"

His worrying attitude sometimes resembled Li Huizhu's, and Gu Yunze didn't find it offensive, answering earnestly:

"Yes, I brought them. My mom prepared them for me, and I brought them for all of you too."

They were both from the north of the city, but they didn't know each other before.

Gu Yunze brought him some local specialties from Beicheng, and Zhou Huanan was very happy to receive them.

He hasn't been home for almost a year.

Yuan Bo's mood was different. Seeing things reminded him of home, and thinking of home made him sad. His eyes turned as red as a rabbit's.

However, Gu Yunze didn't pay attention to him and had already turned around and left.

Zhou Huanan, however, thought he was homesick after seeing this and comforted him:

"Don't be sad. If you miss home, find a chance to go back and see your parents. They are so good to you. They send you things every month."

Yuan Bo is different from him; he clearly grew up being spoiled at home.

So it's understandable that Zhou Huanan cried because he missed home.

Yuan Bo wanted to say that you didn't understand, but he couldn't say it.

So he started wailing, and he hugged Zhou Huanan and wailed, his tears soaking his shoulder.

Zhou Huanan raised his hands, looking rather flustered for a moment.

"Um, don't cry."

Why did she suddenly hug him?

There was a sudden knock on the door. The two looked out and saw Song Meili standing in the doorway, staring at them with wide eyes.

"What are you doing, hugging each other...?"

Strangely enough, when she first heard Yuan Bo crying, she wondered what had happened.

Zhou Huanan immediately pushed Yuan Bo away, quickly stood up, waved his hand at Song Meili, and said, "No, no, it has nothing to do with me."

Song Meili was amused by his blushing face: "Okay, I know, it's none of your business."

Yuan Bo was still wailing, "Why did you push me away? I'm so... I'm so miserable, waaaaah!"

Song Meili looked at Zhou Huanan with a questioning gaze, and Zhou Huanan shook his head at her, indicating that he didn't know what had gotten into him.

I'm just homesick, is it really necessary?

Zhou Huanan's family members mostly spurred him on and encouraged him, which made him miss his family, but not feel a strong attachment to them.

Therefore, he said, "Perhaps it's because I can't understand it."

Song Meili couldn't understand it at all. Her family didn't like her, and ever since she went to the countryside, she had been treating herself like someone without a home.

And so the two of them watched as Yuan Bo's crying grew softer and softer until he cried himself to sleep...

Meanwhile, Gu Yunze arrived at the Lin family's house with his things, and as soon as he entered the courtyard, he saw his long-lost love interest.

Lin Yu heard from her grandmother that Gu Yunze had been invited over for dinner, so she prepared a delicious meal as soon as she got back.

Because she was very busy after becoming the factory manager, her family hadn't had a meal cooked by her for a long time.

Several children happily gathered around her to watch her handle the chicken.

There was an earthen stove in her yard with a large iron pot on top, which Lin Yu used to make braised chicken.

Lin Yi and Er Niu were squatting there, tending a fire.

Lin Yu had just poured the chopped chicken pieces into the pan when she saw Gu Yunze walk in.

Those big eyes immediately lit up with a smile: "You're here."

Gu Yunze's eyes were fixed on her, staring intently.

They say absence makes the heart grow fonder, but Gu Yunze had his own tasks to do during this time and was focused on them, so he didn't really think about Lin Yu much.

But when he stepped into the courtyard and saw her standing there smiling at him, love welled up in his heart immediately.

"What are you doing?"

"You can wait and eat the braised chicken in a clay pot." Gu Yunze knew it was made for him and was very happy.

Then he heard Lin Yi ask him, "Gu Zhiqing, why did it take you so long to get back?"

Gu Yunze simply squatted down and watched the fire with them: "I have something to do when I get back. What, do you need me for something?"

The firelight illuminated his face, and he said somewhat embarrassedly, "Well, I've finished reading all my books."

He wants a new, upgraded version.

But he also knew that buying books cost money.

So he said, "I've saved up some money, I'll give it to you later."

Lin Yi's money mainly came from pocket money given to him by Lin Yu, as well as wages he received for helping out at the factory.

His sister told him that maybe one day he could make money from his inventions, and he really hoped that day would come.

So I studied even harder and more diligently.

Gu Yunze patted his head: "It's okay, those books belong to my friend. He's just hoping someone will want to learn them."

I'm afraid no one will learn it, and instead they'll tear it up and burn it as firewood.

These days, being an intellectual isn't a desirable status.

The children have to work while attending school, and many of them can't keep up with their studies.

Gu Yunze's friend was very happy to have Lin Yi, who was willing to study.

So he doesn't charge any money at all.

Lin Yi pursed his lips and smiled: "Well then, thank you."

Although Lin Yi knew that Gu Yunze had helped him find the book because of his sister, he still wanted to thank him in person.

Gu Yunze smiled and shook his head, saying no need to thank him, and then asked him how far he had learned.

Gu Yunze was somewhat surprised to hear that he had mastered the basics and now wanted to learn the advanced ones.

This child seems quite intelligent; he has thoroughly studied all those books in such a short time and even asks to learn more on his own.

He remembered that his classmate was a physics fanatic and would probably like a kid like Lin Yi.

If there's a chance in the future, I can let Lin Yi learn from him.

However, the timing is not right now, as his friend is currently working in a classified unit.

I don't have that much free time.

Lin Yu felt very gratified as she listened to their conversation.

Lin Yi truly has talent in this area; with proper training, he will undoubtedly have a brighter future.

Unlike in the book, he will not live a life of frustration and unfulfilled ambitions.

While thinking about it, he stuck the pancakes into the pan.

......

"Dinner's ready!"
