Chapter 49 Kidnapping

The next morning, when Ye Zhaoyu got up, Ling Yunjue had already prepared breakfast.

"Brother Yunjue, you're so kind." Ye Zhaoyu looked at the breakfast spread out on the table.

"Go brush your teeth and wash your face, then come eat breakfast." Hearing his wife's praise, Ling Yunjue was overjoyed and couldn't stop smiling.

After finishing breakfast, the two began packing their things.

Ye Zhaoyu was about to make a move, but Ling Yunjue refused.

"You can sit here, I'll do it."

Ling Yunjue knew that Ye Zhaoyu didn't understand these things, so she didn't ask her for help.

And so, Ye Zhaoyu sat on the kang (a heated brick bed) watching Ling Yunjue pack his things.

Ling Yunjue packed all her things and got a letter of introduction from the brigade leader. "Let's go back to Beijing."

"Okay." He carried his medicine box and followed behind Ling Yunjue.

My heart is filled with warmth. What should I do? She can't resist this charm; she'll fall for it.

"Where are they going?" Zhang Meifeng asked the person next to her.

"I don't know, it looks like they're leaving?"

"Leave? Are they trying to pretend they're fugitives? Aren't they afraid of being caught?" Zhang Meifeng thought the two of them had gone mad.

“No, they’ve gone back to the city. They came to the countryside to take care of some business. They’ll go back once they’re done,” said the brigade leader’s son.

Everyone was envious when they heard that the two had returned to the city.

However, no one dared to make a move.

The events that happened in the village over the past two weeks haven't even subsided yet. Huo and Ye, the educated youth, came to arrest enemy agents, and now that they're gone, it means the village is safe.

The villagers really wanted to see them off, but they were usually very aloof and only spoke to each other, afraid that if they spoke, others would look down on them.

Everyone watched Ye Zhaoyu and Ling Yunjue leave.

"Don't you think their gazes are a little strange?" Ye Zhaoyu asked Ling Yunjue, sitting on the oxcart.

“This is normal. If we are too enthusiastic towards them, they will give us all their things. It’s best to keep a distance,” Ling Yunjue explained.

Fearful yet wanting to get closer.

"Um."

"What do you think about me going back and proposing to your father?" Ling Yunjue wanted to marry Ye Zhaoyu as soon as possible.

“He might be thinking of chasing you with a knife.” Ye Zhaoyu played with Ling Yunjue’s hand, which had no calluses.

"Is there any way to get my dad to agree to things without resorting to violence?" Ling Yunjue asked for advice.

"I don't know, figure it out yourself." How could Ye Zhaoyu possibly offer advice?

"Alright, there's something I need to discuss with you. I'd like you to lure the kidnapper a little, is that alright?" Ling Lingyunjue suddenly asked Ye Zhaoyu seriously.

"Sure, no problem at all." Ye Zhaoyu was quite happy to hear that it was just about luring kidnappers.

"We need to change clothes before boarding the train in the county town, and we'll be sitting separately," Ling Yunjue explained the arrangements in detail.

“This is the human trafficking network here, operated by the three brothers. Since the incident, the human trafficking here has not been destroyed. There are no suitable women in the county to lure them, so they want to ask you for help,” Ling Yunjue explained.

“Choosing me was the right decision; I have the ability to protect myself.” Ye Zhaoyu thought it was a good thing; she liked catching human traffickers.

"But you have to be careful, they might have a pistol," Ling Yunjue cautioned.

There aren't many women who have multiple means to protect themselves, and Ye Zhaoyu is one of them; she is also the most suitable person for the task.

Ling Yunjue was unwilling, but she had no choice but to agree; she couldn't let them continue trafficking women and children.

"Okay, I'll be careful," Ye Zhaoyu assured her.

Five days ago, the curfew in the county town was lifted, and you could still see people's happy expressions on the streets.

Ling Yunjue first took Ye Zhaoyu to the train station to observe how young single women travel.

"Okay, let's find a place to change!" Ye Zhaoyu looked around for a while, then told Ling Yunjue to leave.

Ling Yunjue led her to a courtyard house. Ye Zhaoyu immediately changed her clothes, braided her hair into two pigtails, wore coarse linen clothes, and deliberately made her face dirty, while her hands were very white.

A person carrying a package went out to the train station.

He was timid and hesitant the whole way, looking scared of everyone he saw.

After buying the ticket, I sat alone in the waiting room.

I waited in the waiting room for about 10 minutes.

Then a kind-looking woman, around 60 years old, carrying a package, walked over.

"Girl, where are you going?" the woman asked Ye Zhaoyu as she sat down beside her.

Ye Zhaoyu stared at the woman for a long time, hesitated for a long time before speaking, "I'm going to visit relatives." After saying that, she immediately shut up and said nothing more.

“That’s quite a coincidence. I’m also going to visit relatives. My daughter is disobedient and married to someone in the next province. She doesn’t come back even once a year. I only went this time because she was having a baby. What about you? Who are you looking at?” The old woman was very talkative and started talking to Ye Zhaoyu.

Ye Zhaoyu glanced up at the older woman quickly before lowering her head to answer, "I, I'm also going to the next province to visit my maternal grandparents."

"Really? We really are inseparable forever. This old woman is just thinking about going on her journey alone, with no one to talk to. Girl, you can just call me Aunt Tian. What's your name?" Old Mrs. Tian held Ye Zhaoyu's hand and asked her affectionately.

"My name is Xiaoyu." Ye Zhaoyu tried to break free from her grasp, but she couldn't; instead, Old Lady Tian held on even tighter.

"Little Fish, this is a good name, it means abundance year after year," Old Mrs. Tian said affectionately, holding Ye Zhaoyu's hand.

Old Mrs. Tian was a very good conversationalist, and she quickly made Ye Zhaoyu laugh, which relaxed her expression.
