There was a tea room next to the living room, and Ye Zhaoyu invited Dean Liu to sit down.
After exchanging greetings, Ye Zhaoyu made a cup of tea for Dean Liu.
"Dean Liu, come and have some tea," Ye Zhaoyu gestured.
Dean Liu tapped the table three times with two fingers to express his gratitude, picked up the teacup and took a sip. "The taste is mellow and the aroma is fresh. Not bad. Few people have your tea-brewing skills."
"Dean Liu, you flatter me." After a few words of modesty, one could then ask, "What brings you here today?"
Dean Liu put down his teacup, sighed, and then said, "We have a patient who came to our hospital. He was almost shot in the heart when he was young. The surgery saved him, but due to the conditions, it wasn't thorough. There are still shrapnel fragments near his heart, and now they're showing signs of penetrating his heart. We're thinking of performing another surgery to remove them. No one else in our hospital is confident in this, so we came to ask you if you have a chance."
"Did you bring the medical records? I need to see them before I can make a decision." Ye Zhaoyu didn't immediately say yes.
"I brought it, this is it." Dean Liu quickly took out all the documents for Ye Zhaoyu to see.
Ye Zhaoyu took the documents and carefully looked through them. After reading them, she said, "I will go to the hospital tomorrow to check on the patient's condition and make a final confirmation. If there are no major changes in the situation, it should be fine."
"Really?" Dean Liu asked in surprise.
"Yes, it shouldn't be a big problem, it just depends on the patient's physical condition." Ye Zhaoyu nodded affirmatively.
"Okay, okay, I'll send a car to pick you up tomorrow at 8 a.m., is that alright?"
"OK."
"Thank you first, Dr. Ye. You really don't want to work at our hospital?" Dean Liu was trying to poach someone again.
"No, it's great that we're working together like this. I'll definitely come if needed, I just don't want to be stuck in the office." Ye Zhaoyu refused decisively.
What a joke! If she were to work a regular office, she wouldn't even need three days before she stopped going to work because she didn't want to get out of bed.
"Alright, you two really are mother and daughter, neither of you wanting to work regular hours. So, will your consultation fees be the same as your mother's, or will they be settled per visit?" Dean Liu asked Ye Zhaoyu.
"Okay, one-time settlement is fine." Ye Zhaoyu was very satisfied with this arrangement.
"Alright, I have something to do, so I'll head back now. See you tomorrow." Dean Liu finished speaking and prepared to leave.
Okay, see you tomorrow.
Ye Zhaoyu saw the person to the door and watched Dean Liu leave.
Qin Zichuan came looking for Ye Zhaoyu and happened to see her seeing someone off.
"That's Dean Liu. What brings him here?" Qin Zichuan asked Ye Zhaoyu.
“They were unsure about a surgery, so they came to ask me,” Ye Zhaoyu explained.
"Oh, why don't you want to work at the hospital? You can save lives, and the job is stable. Dean Liu has come to see you many times already!" Qin Zichuan led Ye Zhaoyu into the room.
"I prefer freedom and dislike being constrained." Working a regular job involves being managed by the authorities, and there are also night shifts with fixed hours, which makes me feel very restricted.
"I really don't understand you. Other people can't wait for things to stabilize, but it's different for you!" Qin Zichuan was just asking.
"Never mind me, what brings you here today?" Ye Zhaoyu asked Qin Zichuan.
"I was out running some errands, and since I had some time, I came to see you. Do you want to go out for a meal together?" Qin Zichuan asked, holding Ye Zhaoyu and playing with her hair.
"Is it okay if it's just the two of us?"
"Two other colleagues said they haven't seen what my sister-in-law looks like yet and want to meet her."
"Sure, would you like to have the meal at home or out?" Qin Zichuan wanted to introduce her to his friends, and Ye Zhaoyu was secretly pleased.
"Let's go outside, it'll be more convenient."
"Okay, I'll go change my clothes."
After Ye Zhaoyu finished speaking, she immediately got up to change her clothes and told Uncle Ye that she wouldn't be having lunch at home.
The two arrived at the state-run restaurant, where Qin Zichuan's colleagues were all present. Qin Zichuan introduced them to each other.
Accompanying Qin Zichuan this time were his two brothers, Li Jianguo and Wu Jianbing.
Li Jianguo and Wu Jianbing are both the kind of people who can't control their mouths. Once the food was served, everyone started chatting enthusiastically.
Li Jianguo suddenly spoke up, "Sister-in-law, I heard you're a doctor. Why don't you come to the military hospital? That way you can go to and from get off work with our regimental commander every day."
Wu Jianbing chimed in, "Yeah, sister-in-law, you don't know, everyone in our family compound knows that the eldest brother got married. They thought he would finally have a wife and a good life, but who knew he'd still be like a bachelor, eating in the canteen after get off work and having no one to warm his bed at night. It's pretty much the same whether he's married or not."
Wu Jianbing sounded a bit complaining as he spoke.
"Really? Then I'll take some time to go and stay for a couple of days, so he can experience some happiness." Ye Zhaoyu agreed with a smile.
"Sister-in-law, that's the right way, isn't it? How can a husband and wife live separately? If they live apart, their feelings will gradually fade. It's better for them to live together so that their relationship will only get better and better." Seeing that Ye Zhaoyu was quite persistent in her persuasion, Li Jianguo continued to try to persuade her.
The two of them took turns advising Ye Zhaoyu, basically saying that women should revolve around men.
Ye Zhaoyu listened with a smile the whole time, without saying a word.
Qin Zichuan saw that Ye Zhaoyu didn't seem angry, so he let them continue talking.
He still hoped that Ye Zhaoyu would settle down, accept the hospital job, and move in with him.
With her outside, he felt uneasy, like a kite in his hand that might break its string and fly away at any moment, something he couldn't hold onto or keep.
She enjoyed the meal at first, but afterwards Ye Zhaoyu felt uncomfortable.
