Ye Zhaoyu was invited to dinner by Ye Fei's parents.
The two arrived at the agreed-upon private room. The door wasn't closed properly, and the sound of people talking could be heard from inside.
"Mom, are you sure the person we found is our sister? What if it's a scam?"
Zhao Jiaming spoke with concern. He didn't want anyone to come and divide his inheritance with him. If he brought back a younger sister, he would have to give her a dowry. Moreover, she was an old woman in her twenties who couldn't get married. He didn't know if there was something wrong with her. He was afraid that he would have to spend money to get her married.
Ye Fei stopped at the door, and Ye Zhaoyu also stood at the door, the two of them openly eavesdropping.
After learning about his parents, Ye Fei had some expectations, but reason prevailed, and he still went to investigate the Zhao family's affairs.
The Zhao family has a total of four children, two sons and two daughters.
The eldest son is missing and has not been found; the second son is Zhao Jiaming; the eldest daughter is Ye Fei; and the second daughter is Zhao Jiajia.
Zhao Jiaming is married and has a son and a daughter. His wife died during childbirth during their third pregnancy, and their eldest daughter is 7 years old.
After Zhao Jiajia went to the countryside, she married a rural man and did not stay in Beijing.
"No, she was adopted by the Ye family, the family of the legendary doctor. She has no reason to lie to our family. Besides, she is an outstanding girl who got into Peking University on her own merit."
Zhao's mother began to explain.
"What's so great about that? A good daughter should find a good husband and help her own family in the future. Xiaoguo'er, don't be like your sister-in-law who you haven't met yet. Look around your class and befriend the boys and girls from good families. Try to get close to them as soon as possible, then you won't have to go on blind dates."
"Dad, I won't follow my sister-in-law's example. I know a lot..."
The little girl's voice was childish, yet she analyzed her male classmates' situation logically and clearly.
"She really is Dad's good daughter."
"It's good that she's not married, because that gives us a chance to arrange a marriage."
"Don't say these things in public; it's not good if people hear them."
Ye Fei stood outside listening to the people inside chatting. It turned out that her so-called biological parents and second brother were just like that.
Ye Zhaoyu held Ye Fei's hand tightly, giving her strength and waiting for her to make a decision.
Ye Fei composed himself and took Ye Zhaoyu's hand as they entered.
"I'm sorry, Uncle Zhao, Aunt Zhao, I've kept you waiting." Ye Fei sat down casually, pretending not to have heard what had just been said.
"Indeed, you should have arrived earlier, ordered the food, and waited for your parents to come. After all, it's not easy for everyone to see their parents."
A young man spoke up; he wore glasses and was far from refined, only sleazy.
It is estimated that this is the second son that the Zhao couple conceived less than a month after their eldest son went missing.
"It's so rare, then we don't need to eat this meal! We're not worthy." Ye Zhaoyu pulled Ye Fei away.
"Comrade Ye, my son is still young and doesn't understand things, please don't mind him."
Seeing that Ye Zhaoyu was about to leave, Zhao's mother quickly stood up to explain.
"Madam Zhao, you're blind. Go to the hospital and get a checkup. Your son looks almost 40 years old, older than me, yet you claim he's younger."
Ye Zhaoyu stood there, glancing at Zhao's mother with a disdain that was utterly unmistakable.
"You're the one who's blind! I'm only 25, in the prime of my life..."
"Oh, a 25-year-old giant baby, still breastfeeding, and still needs his mother to clean up his mess."
Ye Zhaoyu didn't let him continue and interrupted him directly.
"Comrade Ye, even if you are the daughter of Doctor Ye, you can't talk to us like that. This is so ill-mannered."
When Zhao's mother heard Ye Zhaoyu say such things about her son, she was also angry. This showed them no respect at all.
"Your family certainly doesn't have the same upbringing as yours, raising such a useless son."
"Comrade Ye, you are not someone to insult the son of the Zhao family."
Zhao's father looked at Ye Zhaoyu with a serious expression and a fierce look in his eyes.
"Comrade Zhao, what I said insulted him. Please explain."
Ye Zhaoyu sincerely asked for advice.
"You're saying our family only raises good-for-nothing sons."
Zhao's mother repeated Ye Zhaoyu's words.
"Could it be true? From the time Zhao Jiaming turned 18 until now, you've introduced him to four research labs, but he was rejected because he wasn't good enough. Oh dear, Engineer Zhao's second son is no good. No research lab wants him, and he couldn't even get into university. He can only sponge off his parents."
Ye Fei shared the information she had gathered.
"Yes, that's right. Comrade Zhao, your son is indeed quite useless. He doesn't seem capable of supporting the family. You didn't know, did you? He's the one who sent your youngest daughter to the countryside."
Ye Zhaoyu then revealed another piece of news.
Calling him useless is an understatement; it's too good for Zhao Jiaming.
"Yes, Comrade Zhao, do you know why your youngest daughter doesn't write home? It's because your most beloved second son replaced all her belongings when she went to the countryside. When she went to the countryside, she didn't have a penny, nor any clothes or blankets."
Night Fly, fearing the two weren't heartbroken enough, continued to deliver the final blow.
"Ah, poor Comrade Zhao Jiajia, in order to survive, she went to the countryside and married an old man who was 8 years older than her. It was all for survival, otherwise she doesn't know if she could have survived."
"Oh, by the way, she wrote back asking for money, but your precious son tore up the letters. He wrote 10 letters in a row, and he tore them all up."
Ye Zhaoyu and Ye Fei each told Zhao Jiaming everything he had done, one sentence at a time.
"Shut up, I didn't do it, you're talking nonsense."
Zhao Jiaming panicked as he watched his parents' faces grow increasingly dark.
It's not his fault; it's all Zhao Jiajia's fault.
From a young age, Zhao Jiajia always had better grades and a stronger learning ability than him. She could learn something in one go, while he could never learn it no matter how many times he tried.
