Chapter 16 The First Alien Strike: Illiterate!



“Mingzhao…” Howard’s voice was dry and hoarse, with an unprecedented, almost pleading tenderness, “Look at me.”

Mingzhao seemed not to hear, still staring intently at the scattered pages on the ground, her eyes vacant.

Howard took a deep breath and forced himself to calm down.

But he also knew that empty words of comfort would be useless at this moment. What she needed was... a solution.

Jiang Feng's words rang in my ears: "Keep your eyes open, and... harden your heart too."

He cannot be completely controlled by his emotions.

He found the plug, plugged it in, and turned on the switch.

After a burst of static, a clear, loud, and articulate baritone voice, like sunlight breaking through dark clouds, instantly filled the silent room:

"...The Central People's Broadcasting Station is now broadcasting news and newspaper summaries...Under the brilliant guidance of Chairman Mao's thought, the vast number of workers, peasants, and soldiers across the country are seizing the opportunity to advance revolution and promote production, setting off a new high tide in socialist construction...A large machinery factory in Northeast China has successfully developed a new type of precision machine tool, filling a domestic gap..."

The sudden, loud, and standard voice made Mingzhao, who was huddled in the corner, shudder!

She seemed to be jolted awake from a nightmare by the sound. Her empty eyes finally regained some focus, and she blankly followed the source of the sound to the "iron box" on the table that was making the sound.
