Chapter 24: Well-defined muscles

The shock from the blueprints hadn't been fully processed when this "visual impact" hit me so hard I was completely disoriented!

He had lived for thirty years, experienced gunfire and faced cunning enemies, but he had never experienced such an awkward yet primally impactful scene!

I wanted to immediately pull my clothes over my head and cover myself, I wanted to... I wanted to find a crack in the ground to crawl into! But then I felt like I'd be acting like a timid, submissive wife...

He wanted to yell, "What are you looking at! Turn your head away!"

But his body seemed to be nailed to the spot, and he could only stand there stiffly, letting those clear, almost penetrating gazes carefully "scan" his bare chest and abdominal muscles.

Mingzhao seemed completely unaware of Howard's embarrassment and petrification.

She continued to lift the curtain, her gaze even carrying a hint of research as she slowly moved from his taut chest muscles to his well-defined abdominal muscles, as if assessing the stability of his core strength.

She even tilted her head slightly, as if pondering the limits of this body's mobility.

Howard finally felt his scalp tingle and the hairs on his body stand on end from that gaze!

He suddenly realized what was happening and, almost frantically, grabbed an old vest from the shelf and haphazardly pulled it over his head! His frantic movements nearly tore the vest apart!

The vest covered most of the "research material".

Howard finally felt a little better, but his face was still burning hot and his heart was pounding so loudly he could hear it himself.

He dared not look at Mingzhao again, his head lowered, his voice dry and hoarse like sandpaper rubbing together:

"What...what are you doing standing here? Get out!"

Mingzhao was startled by his suddenly raised voice. The "research" light in her eyes faded, and she regained her usual clarity and calmness.

She seemed to finally realize that her behavior might not conform to the "rules" of this era, although she did not understand why.

She lowered her hand from the curtain, and the curtain fell back down, blocking her view once more.

But she didn't leave immediately. Instead, through the curtain, in a tone she had only recently learned, still a little awkward but exceptionally clear, she earnestly stated to the man inside, who was hurriedly dressing, an "academic" conclusion she had observed:

"Your...muscles...are...well...better...than...the standard...fighter...naturally...efficient."

Behind the curtain, Howard, who was frantically putting on his pants, suddenly froze!

I stumbled and almost tripped over my own trouser leg!

He steadied himself by leaning against the wall, his face flushing red and then turning pale, the tightness in his chest almost suffocating him!

The muscle definition...is very good?

More efficient than a standard soldier... naturally?

What nonsense is she spouting?

Who else has she seen? How exactly did Huang Weiguo and the others raise Mingzhao?

Also, is this considered... a reward?!

Using this tone of voice, as if studying mice?

Howard felt that he had used up all the embarrassment and awkwardness of his entire life today!

He abruptly pulled up his pants, flung open the curtain, and strode out, his clothes still damp with sweat and a lingering aura that was hard to describe as either anger or embarrassment!

Mingzhao remained standing there, holding an empty cup, seemingly only there to pour water.

She watched as Howard stormed out with a dark face, his eyes still open and honest, even carrying a hint of lingering interest in that "highly efficient body" from before.

When Howard met her clear, innocent eyes, which even hinted at a thirst for knowledge, all the reprimands and questions that were on the tip of his tongue were instantly shut up! He felt like he had punched a piece of cotton, and his chest ached with frustration!

He glared fiercely at Mingzhao, his eyes filled with a complex mix of shock, embarrassment, helplessness, and a hint of something strange that he himself didn't even realize. Then, almost through gritted teeth, he forced out a few words:

"After you've poured out the water... hurry back inside... and go read!"

"And next time... don't... don't look at them. You're not allowed to look at anyone else's."

After saying that, he bypassed Mingzhao as if avoiding a plague, strode into the inner room, slammed the door shut, and locked himself inside.

Mingzhao stood there, looking at the empty cup in her hand, then at the tightly closed door to the inner room, a faint trace of confusion flashing across her clear eyes.

He... seems angry?

Why?

Is it because she said his muscle definition is better than that of a Space Marine? In Space, that's a very high compliment.

Or was it because... she disturbed his shower?

She tilted her head, unable to comprehend the complex and ever-changing emotions of ancient humans.

Ultimately, she chose to follow Howard's instruction to "go read a book," went to the table, picked up the textbook she had "disliked," and tried to open it again to find the key structural point that "would break."

As for why the man with "good" features was angry... that's not on her research priority for now.

Inside the room, Howard leaned against the cold door, listening to the faint sound of Mingzhao turning pages outside, and raised his hand to wipe his still burning face.

This ancestor... he's really deadly!

I can't live like this anymore!

——

The morning dew drips from the tender green leaves.

Howard has already gone out again.

Mingzhao didn't pay any attention. After eating the breakfast that Huo Hua had prepared early, she went to the kitchen to wash the dishes.

She turned on the radio and started listening, trying to learn the speech from the broadcast.

Fortunately, she learned quickly. With the help of Yuan Mingzhao's memory, she understood the general meaning of those words after hearing them. She wrote down the words she didn't understand and would ask Howard for help when he returned.

A sound suddenly came from the doorway. Mingzhao glanced at it, then looked away and continued studying.
