Chapter 8 Work for You

Wang Yan had no hope of having a child: "Thank you, sister, for your good wishes. If I can have a child, I will definitely give you a red envelope."

Jiang Zao chuckled and shook the money in his hand: "The money is right here, I'm leaving first."

Wang Yan wiped away her tears, sighed and continued to work.

In the evening she took the bacon and sausages back.

"Mom, my sister from my mother's family knows that you like to eat bacon and sausages, so she asked someone to get some for you. I'll steam a sausage for you tonight and slice it up for you."

Old Mrs. Zhao was originally in a bad mood, but she couldn't get angry even when she saw the bacon and sausages.

She was born and raised in the south and has been in the north for decades. She has long missed the taste of home.

Old Mrs. Zhao's eyes turned red: "You...eh..."

The words "ask someone for help" sound simple, but I wonder how much effort she put into it.

"Don't worry. You and Tiezhu should go see a doctor tomorrow and observe for another two years."

Wang Yan’s marriage has lasted for two more years.

When Zhao Tiezhu came back in the evening, he saw that the mother-in-law and daughter-in-law were getting along well. After asking, he found out that it was thanks to the sausage.

After finishing their meal and closing the door, Zhao Tiezhu asked Wang Yan, "Where did you get this?"

Wang Yan could hide this from everyone except Zhao Tiezhu: "I sold the ginger dates to you. A box only costs ten yuan."

Zhao Tiezhu nodded. "Our food factory is hiring. I see she's taking the exam. If she can get a job at the food factory, I'll keep an eye on her."

Wang Yan nodded.

After turning off the lights, they continued to make babies.

Jiang Zao was going after Zhao Tiezhu.

Zhao Tiezhu is in charge of transportation at the food factory and travels all over the place. In the future, she can ask him to sell whatever she gets, or ask him to help her make some for her.

Jiang Xing will be back tomorrow. She sat on the edge of the bed and, using the bright moonlight, made a pair of trouser cords like Wang Yan's and sewed ten yuan into it.

Tie the trouser strings tightly around the waist.

Just as I lay down, I heard a quarrel outside.

"Why should Big Sister's sewing machine be given to him? Why shouldn't I get one?"

Jiang Jun would make a scene every day after school. Even though he was only in high school, he knew that he couldn't get into college. High school was his highest level of education, and after graduation he had to prepare to find a job and get married.

If all the things in the house are given to Jiang Ming, will he just hang himself and wait for death?

Jiang Ming would always pretend to be dead at this time and would never fart again.

Liu Chunhua put on her clothes and came out: "What are you arguing about? Your third sister hasn't married yet. When the third sister gets married, all the betrothal gifts given by the Xiao family will be yours. When the eldest and third sister are married, the rooms they vacate will be used for your wedding."

"I already have a room and a betrothal gift, why would I fight with your elder brother?"

"I gave birth to you two brothers and two daughters. Compared to other families with seven or eight brothers who are so poor that they can't even find wives, you can just be happy and go to sleep!"

With Liu Chunhua's roar, Jiang Jun stopped.

Jiang Zao closed his eyes and held his belt tightly with his hands.

In this life, no one will be able to get even a little bit of money from her.

The sky was turning pale, and Jiang Zao was the first to wake up.

She put on her clothes and shoes, drew a basin of clean water, squatted by the well, washed her face, and prepared to cook.

The water in the big vat was almost gone, so she tilted the vat a little bit, scooped out all the water at the bottom with a scoop, and then carried a liver-red bucket and poured a few buckets of water into the vat.

After fetching water, move the stone in front of the stove, place the dustpan on the stove mouth, use a rake to clear the ashes, and prepare to light a fire and cook.

Even though there are six people in the Jiang family, Jiang Dashan and Jiang Ming all have jobs, but none of them were picked up from the street. Occasionally, they have to bring back a few cents or a dollar from their grandparents in the countryside and Liu Chunhua's parents' home. During the holidays, the factory gives out welfare. Half a bottle of vinegar has to be poured out, some soy sauce has to be divided, and if two pairs of gloves are not enough, each family gets one.

In the near future, Jiang Ming and Jiang Jun will get married. Marrying a wife costs more than it brings in. The Jiang family has two daughters to rely on, so they have to spend some money.

What's more, the fourth child hasn't found a job yet, and looking around, it's all about spending money.

Liu Chunhua keeps a tight rein on household expenses.

Don’t eat meat if you have vegetables, and don’t eat refined rice if you have brown rice.

There isn’t much that can be cooked at home. Ginger and dates are boiled into a paste with cornmeal, and some mustard greens and cherries are added to make a porridge.

After cooking breakfast, Jiang Zao steamed a pot of rice in the pot next door.

The Jiang family makes two kinds of rice, a mixture of rice and millet, and two kinds of noodles, a mixture of white flour and buckwheat flour. "Save as much as possible," is Liu Chunhua's famous saying about managing the family.

After steaming the rice, he peeled and cut the potatoes into pieces and stewed them with the sauerkraut. After steaming, he covered the pot and calculated that the time was almost up. Jiang Zao wiped his hands and walked out: "Mom, I have prepared the meal. Lunch is in the pot. Before eating, put the sweet potato vermicelli soaking in the basin in it. It will be ready after a while."

Liu Chunhua came out from the inner room: "What are you doing now?"

Jiang Zao: "I'm going out with Yanqiu."

"I won't be back for lunch. Yanqiu is treating me to noodles."

Liu Chunhua hummed: "You usually don't say a word, it seems like you are my child, but now it seems that you are just like me, and you have people inviting you to dinner every day."

"Go ahead, come back and cook dinner in the evening."

Jiang Zao was not idle while talking outside. He threw the stones that hurt his feet in the yard to the base of the wall and only went out after getting Liu Chunhua's permission.

After closing the courtyard gate, Jiang Zao stood under the willow tree in front of his house for less than two minutes. Then the courtyard gate of the house at the entrance of the alley opened, and a fat girl wearing a dark blue cloth shirt and two braids walked out. The fat girl with a round face didn't look around, but ran towards Jiang Zao's house as soon as she walked out.

When Tao Yanqiu saw Jiang Zao, she stood on tiptoe and waved enthusiastically: "Zao'er!!!"

"What are you doing there? I was just looking for you."

In an era when every household was breaking every penny into pieces, the fact that Comrade Tao Yanqiu could grow up to be a little fat boy among a group of skinny people was proof that he was loved.
