Chapter 243 The Fourth Dimension

Since the last time she was matched with a modern world, Xia Qingqing has no longer been so eager to upgrade the interdimensional trading system.

What she lacked most was daily necessities, while the modern world had no shortage of daily necessities.

Having achieved a comfortable life, Xia Qingqing takes a laissez-faire attitude towards continuing to upgrade the interdimensional trading system.

Before she knew it, her accumulated experience had broken through the level 4 barrier, finally unlocking the fourth trading dimension.

Looking at the prompts on the system panel, Xia Qingqing felt a glimmer of hope that she would be matched with a high-level dimension this time.

Of the three planes she has been matched with, the post-apocalyptic plane can barely be considered a mid-level plane, while the original plane and the modern plane can only be considered low-level planes.

Xia Qingqing closed her eyes briefly and solemnly pressed the [Friend Match] button.

After waiting a while, a message popped up on the system panel:

[Congratulations, host, you have successfully matched with a host from the interstellar dimension. Would you like to add them as a friend?]

It was actually an interstellar plane. Although it differed somewhat from the cultivation plane that Xia Qingqing had hoped for, it was still a high-level plane. Thinking of the novels she had read before, Xia Qingqing couldn't help but feel filled with anticipation.

After selecting "Add Friend," the entire friend list started spinning continuously.

Xia Qingqing waited for a long time but didn't get her friend's approval, so she had to close the system interface.

There was a knock on the door, and Xia Qingqing got up and opened it.

Dog Egg looked up with his dark face and said, "Sis, there's no sun today. Do you want to go fishing with me?"

Xia Qingqing thought for a moment. It had just rained this morning, and the weather was still quite cool. "Okay, let's go take a look together."

Dog Egg happily grabbed his sister's hand: "Sis, hurry up, Da Niu and Er Niu are waiting for me outside."

As soon as the two left the yard, they saw the equally dark-skinned Big Ox and Little Ox.

These days, probably knowing that Xia Qingqing is at home, Da Niu hasn't come over to play much; it's mostly Gou Dan who goes to Da Niu's house.

"Hello, Sister Qingqing," Da Niu greeted her obediently.

Erniu, perhaps because he was younger, was less reserved and grinned foolishly at Xia Qingqing, revealing his missing front tooth:

"Sister Qingqing, you are so beautiful. You are the most beautiful girl in the whole brigade."

Xia Qingqing didn't expect Da Niu to be so sweet-talking. She smiled and took out a few candies from her pocket, giving two to each of the two brothers, and the rest to Gou Dan.

"Thank you, Sister Qingqing," Da Niu and Er Niu said in unison.

The group walked towards the river. Along the way, Da Niu, with a piece of candy in his mouth, whispered in Gou Dan's ear, "The candy your sister gave you is much tastier than the peddler's."

"Of course, you get what you pay for, you know?" Gou Dan said, acting like a little adult.

These were the words Xia Qingqing had said to him some time ago, and he is now putting them into practice.

Upon arriving at the riverbank, Gou Dan and Da Niu first checked their small bamboo baskets that they had placed in the riverbed. They found that the baskets already contained some small fish and shrimp, and excitedly poured them into a bucket.

Seeing the little ones having so much fun catching fish, Xia Qingqing took off her shoes and went into the river as well.

The river water was quite shallow, only up to knee level, and it was icy cold; soaking in it was quite comfortable.

Gou Dan complained to Da Niu, "There haven't been any small fish in the river these past two days. I've been trying to catch them for ages and I've only managed to catch this few."

"Yeah, I don't know if we can catch a pound today," Da Niu sighed dejectedly.

Xia Qingqing chuckled when she heard this. Judging from their way of catching fish, even if there were a lot of fish, they would catch them all.

Xia Heping had mentioned this issue a few days ago. Xia Qingqing directly suggested that Zhang Hongyan use pork instead of small fish, and the price of chili sauce also increased by two cents per bottle.

Xia Qingqing didn't handle the pork purchase herself; instead, she sourced the pork directly from Xiao Hui, which was a mutually beneficial arrangement.

She could, of course, take the pork directly from the system's warehouse, but that would be risky. She could do that while she was at home, but when she went to Beijing for school, there would be no supply left.

Seeing Gou Dan looking sullen, Xia Qingqing suddenly suggested, "Would you like to eat spicy snails?"

Dog Egg's mouth watered at the mention of "spicy snails." His sister made them last summer, and the taste was absolutely amazing—numbing, spicy, and fragrant.

Unfortunately, he was scolded by his mother, Ms. Zhang Hongyan, for wasting oil and salt. After his sister went to school in Beijing, he never ate spicy snails again.

Gou Dan looked conflicted: "I want to eat it, but Mom..."

"I'll take care of Mom's situation. You collect more snails, and I'll cook them for you when we get home."

In the end, they didn't catch many small fish, but they collected half a bucket of snails and went home.

Xia Qingqing invited Da Niu and Er Niu to her home to eat spicy snails, but Da Niu was too embarrassed to go.

Xia Qingqing didn't insist. She planned to have Gou Dan send a bowl to his family after she finished cooking, since the snails were picked by the two brothers together.

Back in the village, Xia Qingqing filled a bucket with clean water and added a spoonful of salt, letting the snails purge the mud and sand.

Then he sent Gou Dan to the vegetable garden to pick a few fresh cucumbers.

Before lunchtime, Xia Qingqing prepared the spicy snails and had Gou Dan deliver a bowl to Da Niu's family.

As soon as Zhang Hongyan stepped into the courtyard, she smelled a delicious aroma and quickly headed towards the kitchen: "Qingqing, what are you making now?"

Xia Qingqing was cooking when she saw her mother return and immediately smiled and said, "Mom, dinner will be ready soon. Why don't you go and call Dad home?"

Zhang Hongyan, with her sharp eyes, immediately spotted the spicy snails on the stove and scolded, "Why did you make this again? There's barely any meat to fill your teeth."

Xia Qingqing playfully stuck out her tongue: "I just want to eat it, dear Mom~".

"You, you, go ahead and do as you please. I'm going to call your dad," Zhang Hongyan said affectionately, poking her daughter's forehead.

Meanwhile, Gou Dan delivered a large bowl of snails to Da Niu's house, just in time to find Da Niu's mother cooking.

When Da Niu's mother saw that Gou Dan was holding something, she asked curiously, "Gou Dan, what's this?"

"These snails were made by my sister. Da Niu and Er Niu picked them up with us. Auntie, could you please get a bowl to clean them up?"

Da Niu's mother quickly went to the kitchen to get an empty bowl and poured a bowl of fragrant snails into her own bowl.

Before Da Niu's mother could say anything else, Gou Dan greeted Da Niu and went straight home.

The remaining mother and her two children swallowed hard as they looked at a bowl of snails: "How can snails be made so fragrant and oily? Qingqing is really generous with them."

Unable to resist the aroma, Erniu cried out, "Mom, I want to eat snails! I want to eat snails!"

Da Niu's mother put the snails directly into the cupboard: "We'll eat them together when your dad comes back."

Da Niu and Er Niu exchanged a glance and ran towards the door in tacit agreement, eager to call their father home for dinner.
