Chapter 22 Delicious Roast Chicken

During his lunch break, Song Ze decided to go up the mountain to catch some wild game for a treat.

He was carefully searching along a row of pheasant footprints with his head down when he was bumped into by a figure.

Song Ze reacted incredibly quickly, shoving the person out of the way, and a scream came from the other side.

Before he could even see who he had pushed away, he saw a pheasant fly over and threw the stone he had prepared at it.

Xia Qingqing, who was lying on the ground and unable to get up, watched as the fierce pheasant that had been chasing and pecking at her was hit on the head and killed.

After watching the pheasant die, Song Ze finally had time to pay attention to the person who had bumped into him. He immediately saw the little girl sitting on the ground with tears in her eyes.

Looking at him with a accusing gaze, Song Ze touched the tip of his nose somewhat awkwardly: "Are you alright?"

As Xia Qingqing felt the intense pain in her buttocks, tears welled up in her eyes and fell one by one.

Waaah, her butt is going to be ruined.

When Song Ze saw the little girl crying, with tears streaming down her big almond-shaped eyes, he immediately became anxious and quickly coaxed her gently, "Don't cry, I didn't push you on purpose. I didn't even know you bumped into me."

If he had known that it was Xia Qingqing who hit him, he would never have pushed her out directly.

Xia Qingqing pouted. It was indeed she who bumped into the other person first, so much so that she didn't even have the confidence to curse now.

"My butt hurts so much, I can't get up," Xia Qingqing said, trying to stand up but still unable to. She looked at Song Ze with teary eyes.

Hearing her say that, Song Ze felt a little nervous, afraid that something might have really happened to her.

"Don't move, let me help you up."

Xia Qingqing grabbed Song Ze's outstretched arm, leaned all her weight on him, and carefully tried to stand up.

Perhaps because of external help, or perhaps because she had recovered, Xia Qingqing finally stood up this time. She breathed a sigh of relief, knowing that being able to stand up meant there was no major problem.

She was genuinely worried that she had damaged some nerves and what would happen if she became paralyzed.

"Should I take you to the hospital to get checked out?" Song Ze asked, looking at Xia Qingqing struggling to stand. He was worried and thought it would be safer to go to the hospital for a checkup.

Xia Qingqing shook her head: "No need, going to the county is too much trouble, and the road is bumpy. I'm afraid I'll get hurt again."

She plans to check on the situation in a couple of days. If it gets worse, it might be a bone injury, in which case she'll have to go to the hospital.

"Then let me do something too, otherwise I'll feel bad," Song Ze said, feeling a pang of heartache as he looked at Xia Qingqing's pitiful appearance.

Xia Qingqing felt the pain in her buttocks, thought for a moment and said, "How about you help me gather pig feed for a few days? I'm afraid I won't be able to work for the next few days."

Song Ze agreed without hesitation: "No problem, I'll help you gather pig feed until you're healed."

Xia Qingqing's impression of Song Ze improved a little when she heard that he had agreed to help her with the work.

It was an accident that Song Ze caused her injury, but he was willing to take responsibility for it, which shows that he is a responsible person.

Song Ze pointed to the pheasant on the ground that hadn't completely died and asked, "Comrade Xia, would you like some roast chicken? I'll make it for you."

Roast chicken? Upon hearing these two words, Xia Qingqing's mouth watered uncontrollably. She hadn't eaten meat for almost a month and had almost forgotten what it tasted like.

Looking at Song Ze in disbelief, she tentatively asked, "Really? You're willing to share the chicken with me?"

It's no wonder she didn't quite trust Song Ze. In their previous interactions, Song Ze had been quite awful, always joking around with her.

Now, whenever she hears Song Ze's question, she has to seriously think several times in her mind whether he is teasing her or not.

"Yes, I'll make you a roast chicken. Do you want some?" Song Ze looked at the little girl who was looking up at him with pleading eyes, and couldn't resist pinching her fair face.

At that moment, Xia Qingqing only had the word "roast chicken" in her mind and didn't even notice that Song Ze had pinched her cheek.

"Eat, eat, eat! But how are we going to grill it? We didn't bring any seasonings or tools." Xia Qingqing did have some seasonings in her system's inventory, but it wasn't worth the risk for a mere pheasant.

Song Ze found a clean and soft spot for Xia Qingqing to sit down and said, "Wait for me here, I'll prepare it. You just wait to eat."

Because of her injured buttocks, Xia Qingqing could only sit sideways with difficulty. When she heard Song Ze say that she didn't need his help, she didn't try to be brave and obediently sat in place waiting for Song Ze to make the roast chicken.

Song Ze often went up the mountain to catch some game for a treat, so he always carried seasonings with him.

He found a spot, cleaned the pheasant, quickly set up a makeshift fire, and began roasting the chicken.

Xia Qingqing rested her chin on her hand, somewhat bored, watching Song Ze bustling around by himself. It was the first time she had ever seen Song Ze be so domestic.

If you ignore his somewhat unpleasant personality traits, he's actually a very good potential partner.

Before long, Xia Qingqing smelled a rich aroma of meat and subconsciously licked her lips.

Oh my god, this smells amazing!

Xia Qingqing stared at the roast chicken in Song Ze's hand, her eyes practically glued to the plate: "Can we eat it now?"

Song Ze noticed her hungry look and asked, "Are you hungry? The roast chicken will be ready soon."

Xia Qingqing nodded vigorously: "Song Ze, I didn't expect your cooking skills to be so good! This roast chicken smells so good!"

"Of course, how could my roast chicken not be delicious? Once you try it, you'll find it's the best roast chicken you've ever eaten," Song Ze said without a hint of modesty, showering himself with praise.

Xia Qingqing felt that he was a bit too narcissistic. She had eaten countless roast chickens in her past life, and she didn't really believe that Song Ze's cooking skills could be better than those of a professional.

However, I certainly couldn't say that, so I casually agreed, "Yes, yes, you're the best."

Song Ze used his small knife to cut a piece of meat and carefully held it to Xia Qingqing's lips: "Try it and see if it's salty enough. If you think it's bland, I'll add some more salt."

Song Ze himself has always preferred milder flavors.

Xia Qingqing looked at the meat that was brought to her mouth, pursed her lips and blew on it, and only after she felt it was about right did she take a bite.

The meaty flavor exploded in her mouth instantly, even better than she had imagined. The pheasant meat was fragrant but not greasy, and the taste was absolutely amazing.

Xia Qingqing gave him a thumbs up: "Super delicious, Song Ze, you're amazing."

After being praised, Song Ze smiled and tore off a large chicken leg, wrapped it in a clean leaf, and handed it to Xia Qingqing: "Here, eat up."
