When Yun Huaying returned to the office, Han Zheng was on the phone. He said a few words and then hung up. When Yun Huaying came over and sat down, he pulled her aside and said, "Huaying, I have to go on another mission. This time we might be apart for a long time."
When Yun Huaying heard that he was leaving, she felt reluctant: "How long will he be gone?"
"Maybe half a year."
Yun Huaying usually never asked about his work because she knew it was confidential and she shouldn't ask too much, but this time she still asked, "You're going to be gone for so long, are you going abroad?"
Han Zheng nodded and said nothing else.
Going on a mission abroad would definitely be dangerous. Yun Huaying was very worried: "Are we leaving this afternoon?"
"Leave tomorrow morning."
Han Zheng was reluctant to leave her. Although he had been there for about a week, she was very busy with work. The only time they could really spend time together was during the evening rest time, and he hadn't been able to spend enough time with her.
He was a soldier, and obeying orders was his duty. Yun Huaying wouldn't ask him to turn down work without reason. Even though she was reluctant, she supported him: "Just focus on your work. Don't worry about your family, and don't worry about me. Although we've tentatively scheduled the wedding for October, don't rush or take risks. Nothing is more important than your safety."
"Don't worry, I will come back safely." Han Zheng held her hand tightly.
He was leaving tomorrow, and Yun Huaying wanted to spend more time with him, so she stood up and said, "I'm going to ask for leave. I won't come this afternoon, but will stay home with you."
The hospital leader was very easy to talk to and understood the difficulties faced by military families. Without hesitation, he approved her leave so that the young couple could spend more time together.
When they got home, Yun Huaying immediately cooked. She steamed his favorite braised pork belly, and even took out a chicken from the space in front of him, giving him a task: "Captain Han, kill the chicken."
Han Zheng smiled as he watched her transform into a living chicken. He finally knew that she raised many chickens and ducks in that magical space. Thinking of the fruits she often gave to him and his grandparents, he had a guess in his mind that there was probably a small farm in this space.
After he finished preparing the chicken, Yun Huaying asked him, "How would you like it? Stewed, steamed, braised, or baked with salt?"
"Salt-baked."
The last time Han Zheng ate salt-baked chicken was in Kyoto. The salt-baked chicken she made at that time tasted very good, and he missed the taste very much.
"Then I'll go inside and do it."
The stove outside was simple and lacked sufficient tools, so Yun Huaying disappeared with the chicken in her hand.
She dodged so quickly that Han Zheng was a step too slow to catch her and could only watch her disappear before his eyes.
Two minutes later, Yun Huaying came out with a sieve of washed fruits in her hands. There were strawberries, grapes, yellow peaches and dates. She handed them to him to eat. "These are the fruits grown in my space. You sit down and eat them. I'll make the meal."
Han Zheng had never eaten strawberries before. Seeing that the bright red fruit looked very pretty, he pinched one and fed it to her first: "Wife, open your mouth."
Yun Huaying opened her mouth and took a bite, chewing and saying, "Eat it. There are many fruits planted in the space. I eat a lot of fruits every day."
Han Zheng put a strawberry in his mouth. It tasted good. Suddenly, he remembered something and asked her, "Wife, are the gray wolves in your space?"
"Um."
Yun Huaying nodded. "I released them back into the forest a while ago, intending to let them reunite with the other wolf packs, but the cubs didn't want to leave me. They all wanted to live in the space, so I kept them there. There are a lot of poultry and livestock in the space, as well as vegetables and fruits. They can eat whatever they want, and I basically don't have to worry about taking care of them."
"They are quite human-like, let's keep them." Han Zheng thought that with wolves around, he would have helpers if he encountered problems in the future.
Lunch was quickly prepared. Yun Huaying slipped into the space and took out salt-baked chicken and a pot of braised beef. The two of them sat in the living room and ate slowly.
After dinner, the two took a nap and went shopping around the city together in the afternoon, enjoying a rare leisurely time together.
Han Zheng took the earliest train the next day. Before leaving, Yun Huaying prepared a lot of his favorite dishes for him, stuffed a bag with various fruits, and also gave him a very important protective card.
Seeing her wrapping a dark green object as thin as a hair around the watch, Han Zheng carefully examined it, but couldn't tell what it was made of. He asked her, "Huaying, what is this?"
"Don't ask. All you need to know is that this thing can save your life in a life-or-death situation."
This is what Yun Huaying asked for from the magic vine last night. It is a young vine picked from the main vine. Don’t be fooled by the fact that it is as thin as a hair, it is actually very useful.
"Huaying, such a precious thing, you keep it." Han Zheng immediately returned it to her.
"I have."
Yun Huaying held down his hand and warned him, "This is something you and I know, so don't mention it to anyone else."
"Okay, I'll keep it a secret." Han Zheng responded solemnly.
"I'll wait for you to come back home." No matter how reluctant Yun Huaying was, she had to let him go to work.
"Yeah, wait for me."
Han Zheng hugged her and kissed her hard, reluctant to let her go: "Huaying, you must also protect and take care of yourself, don't work too hard."
"I know."
After saying that, Yun Huaying helped him carry his luggage bag and hurried to take him to the train station to catch the train.
After watching the train depart and his figure completely disappear at the end of the tracks, Yun Huaying put away her reluctance to leave and turned back to the hospital to get back to work.
Just as she sat down in the office, Li Xiami came to see her, "Doctor Yun, isn't Han Zheng here?"
"He went back to work. I just sent him to the train."
"Oh." Thinking about how he left so soon, leaving her alone to work in the hospital, Li Xiami said, "Well, it's not easy for them to be soldiers, and it's even harder for you as their family members."
