Chapter 135 The Matchmaker?

Grandma watched the three figures walk away and suddenly blurted out, "Oh my goodness, human traffickers are rampant right now. Do you think those three will get into trouble?"

Shen Fenghua: "..."

Honestly, if you really run into them, it's hard to say who might actually be in trouble.

~

Qi Ye returned very late that day. Shen Fenghua wanted to wait for him, but she was sleepy and her head was dizzy. She fell asleep on the kang (a heated brick bed) soon after.

Qi Ye returned travel-worn. Looking at the silent courtyard, he was prepared to climb over the wall to get in, but his grandmother lit a lamp and opened the bedroom door. "Is that Xiao Qi?"

Qi Ye was taken aback, somewhat at a loss, "It's me, Grandma."

Grandma's voice was exceptionally clear in the quiet night, "Wait a minute, Grandma will get the key and open the door for you."

Hearing the rustling sounds coming from the courtyard, Qi Ye stood at the door and looked at the straight jujube tree. It wasn't like this before; it was thin and fragile, as if it would break at the slightest touch, with only a few sparse leaves on the tree.

But thanks to Grandma's careful care, she would loosen the soil and water the dog whenever she had time. When she had time, she would also put the leftover food and the dog's poop together to make compost, and then bury it under the roots of a tree not far away.

It took a lot of nurturing to get to where we are today.

Just like himself.

Before he met Shen Fenghua, his days consisted of nothing but training. He and his brothers rarely spoke from the heart. After all, they were all grown men, and some things were better left unsaid.

But to say it out loud would be a bit pretentious.

But now, things seem to be really different.

He and Shen Fenghua formed a family. The family included children and a grandmother. The grandmother was a quiet and unassuming old woman who always had a smile on her face and took care of their daily lives like a gentle spring breeze.

Incidentally, it also filled the void in his long-withered and parched heart.

With the clanging of chains, the door opened, and Grandma, wearing an overcoat, asked, "Why are you only coming back now?"

Qi Ye lowered his eyes and said, "Grandma, I had something to discuss today, so I came back late."

"It's a bit late. Have you eaten yet? Grandma left some food in the pot. Eat something before you go to sleep. You won't sleep well on an empty stomach."

Qi Ye, who wasn't particularly hungry, was persuaded by her grandmother and said, "Then I'll eat some."

“Okay,” Grandma wanted to go and prepare, but Qi Ye stopped her. “Grandma, I’ll go by myself. You go back and rest. It’s so late at night.”

"Oh dear, you have no idea what I left behind, and you'll mess up my familiar kitchen again."

Unable to refuse her grandmother's request, Qi Ye could only wash up quickly and wait for her grandmother to put the food on the table.

Grandma was carrying the food and talking non-stop. Qi Ye didn't find it annoying; instead, he felt a warm glow in his heart. This was the feeling of home.

"If I hadn't heard the noise, how were you planning to get in?"

Qi Ye scratched his head. "I'm quick and agile; I climbed over the wall to get in."

"Nonsense!" Grandma gave Qi Ye a disapproving look. "The walls are covered with cement shards of glass. If you slip and get hurt, you'll suffer terribly!"

"It's okay, I'm used to it."

"No," Grandma said with a blank face, disapprovingly, "This is not a good habit, you should change it quickly. If you come back late again, just call Grandma. Grandma is old and a light sleeper, I'll get up as soon as you call me."

"That would be terrible, disturbing your rest. You already have a light sleep, and if I cause you more trouble, well, you won't be able to sleep at all tonight."

"Oh, I don't have anything to do during the day, so I'll just keep sleeping." Grandma smiled. "Good child, listen to Grandma, just call out twice, it's no trouble at all."

Finally, at her grandmother's insistence, Qi Ye agreed.

Under the flickering lamplight, Grandma tidied up the things on the table. Qi Ye took them first, saying, "Grandma, I'll do this. You should go back to sleep. I'll take a shower and go to bed right away."

"Okay, go ahead."

When Qi Ye returned to the house, covered in sweat, Shen Fenghua was already fast asleep.

Perhaps it was out of habit, but as soon as Qi Ye got on the kang (a heated brick bed), Shen Fenghua seemed to be detected by radar. She turned around and snuggled into Qi Ye's arms, making a couple of unconscious whimpering noises.

Feeling the warmth in his arms and the hot breath that Shen Fenghua sprayed on his neck.

Qi Ye's eyes reddened unconsciously as he gazed at Shen Fenghua's serene sleeping face, almost reverently.

Finally, he shed a tear, feeling incredibly grateful for his recent behavior—a calm masking a touch of madness.

Shen Fenghua was his salvation, a dazzling light in his unfathomable life.

A light that belongs only to him.

The next morning, when Shen Fenghua woke up, Qi Ye had already packed up and run away. Looking at the empty space beside her, Shen Fenghua was a little confused. She rubbed her eyes and ran outside, "Grandma?"

Grandma had already prepared a steaming bowl of millet porridge. "Come on, hurry up! Don't be half asleep. Didn't you say you wanted to drink millet porridge yesterday? Grandma made it this morning. Drink it quickly before you go to work."

Shen Fenghua yawned. "Grandma, where's Qi Ye? He didn't come back yesterday?"

Grandma: "..."

She chuckled, "He's back. This child is so honest. He came back late, saw that the front door was locked, and didn't even think to call us to open it. Instead, he tried to climb over the wall like a madman."

Shen Fenghua was startled; there was glass on the wall, and that was no joke.

"Is he...is he alright?"

"No, I heard him making a sound, so I went to open the door."

"Oh!" Shen Fenghua breathed a sigh of relief, then looked at her grandmother, "What's wrong? Grandma, can't you sleep?"

"I'm old and need less sleep, isn't that to be expected?"

"Perhaps?" Shen Fenghua didn't know that there were people who needed less sleep; she just felt that she never got enough sleep every day.

After a whirlwind meal, the whole family went out together to send the children to school, then Shen Fenghua went to work, and finally Grandma strolled off to buy groceries.

The family is large, and everyone has their own role.

On the way, Shen Fenghua was already thinking about the three young men from yesterday. Finding wives was something she was good at!

After all, there are quite a few young women in her department who are single. However, Shen Fenghua plans to carefully consider that even if they meet, she will make sure to explain their conditions and relationship clearly.

Otherwise, it might actually lead to a disastrous relationship.

As for the reason...

Shen Fenghua felt that she was probably bored and was just looking for something to do, to contribute and make the most of her remaining energy.

If it works out, great; if not, oh well.

There's no loss.
