Zhong Wanwan was so preoccupied with how she would eat those little fish and shrimp when she got back that she didn't notice what was going on with Director Wei.
However, Tang Zixuan and Bai Yueyao, who were with this group, heard it, which infuriated Bai Yueyao.
So, those who came along didn't even lift a finger, so why were the fish given to Zhong Wanwan but not to the others?
If we're really talking about helping, she even helped choose the spot where the accident happened, so she should be the one to receive help.
Don't even mention that Zhong Wanwan also said it. That was just Zhong Wanwan picking up the scraps after she finished speaking. If she had said it herself, how would she know anything?
Bai Yueyao retorted, unconvinced:
"Director Wei, why should Zhong Wanwan be allowed to share the fish with the hunting team? If that's the case, then my brother Zixuan, my brother Zihao, and I also went winter fishing, so we should get a share too!"
Before Director Wei could say anything, Wang Erlaizi burst into laughter as if he had heard the funniest joke in the world:
"Bai Zhiqing, are you out of your mind to share the fish? You shamelessly came to join the winter fishing, how did you come up with such a ridiculous idea as to share the fish with the hunting team?"
"Mom, if that's the case, I even saw your wedding with Tang Zixuan. Does that mean you can sleep with your bride separately from him?"
Wang Erlaizi's "straight man" chimed in at the opportune moment:
“We’re brothers, I won’t be with you peeking over the wall to watch them do that. You can’t forget your brother when something like this happens!”
Bai Yueyao cursed loudly:
"Wang Erlaizi, shut your mouth! If you say anything like that to me again, I'll report you to the police station!"
"Let the police station arrest you, send you to a labor camp, and put you in jail!"
Wang Erlaizi said contemptuously:
"You think you're all talk? You keep accusing me. What are you going to accuse me of? Am I shameless for taking what others have, or am I jealous and trying to take advantage of everyone?"
"Give me back my place in the squatting hut. If I'm going to squat, you have to go first. I'll have to wait in line after you!"
Bai Yueyao, hands on her hips, said:
"Who's jealous? I'm saying this is unfair. Zhong Wanwan didn't do anything, why should she get a share of the fish with your hunting team? I'm fighting for your interests."
"Don't you understand? It's like a dog biting Lü Dongbin—it doesn't recognize a kind heart!"
Wang Erlaizi scoffed:
"I don't understand. If it weren't for Master Zhong's quick reaction and decisive action in having the tractor help pull the fishing net and quickly bring the fish up, it would have been a huge mistake."
"Who knows how many of those big fish got away? The fishing nets might all be torn, and we'll have to spend money to make new ones!"
"You still have the nerve to compare yourself to Master Zhong? You shameless scoundrel who snatches a bite of fish from the kids, you really know how to take shamelessness to the extreme!"
Bai Yueyao never expected that when she helped the hunting team to prevent Zhong Wanwan from joining and to allow them to get a larger share, they would still be unwilling!
Actually, everyone has their own sense of right and wrong. Zhong Wanwan made a contribution today, and these guys are willing to give a little of their share to her.
But if it were given to Bai Yueyao and a few others, they definitely wouldn't be willing.
Isn't this insane? Joining the fun and wanting a share of the fish they worked so hard to catch? Why should she? Just because of her shameless attitude?
Bai Yueyao continued to flatter him, saying:
"Alright, in terms of contributions, let's not talk about Brother Zixuan and Brother Zihao. They didn't help much today."
"Take me for example. Wasn't I the first to point out the flaws today? Logically and morally, I should get a share of the blame!"
Wang Erlaizi picked at his ears, utterly disbelieving what he was hearing.
"What did you say? You were the first to point out the flaws?"
"What's this? You're not taking credit from Master Zhong anymore, but now you're taking credit from our team leader?"
"The places that stood out were chosen one by one by our captain. How did you become the first to mention them? Are you out of your mind? Can't you tell the difference between reality and fantasy?"
Wang Erlaizi, the straight man, chuckled:
"You know, if someone is shameless, they'd be invincible! After all this time, they've become someone who knows how to spot a culprit!"
"If we keep making changes, all of China's airplanes and artillery will have to be designed and built by her!"
"I used to think I was a bit shameless, but compared to Bai Zhiqing, I'm too thin-skinned. I need to learn from Bai Zhiqing. As long as I'm thick-skinned enough, I can get anything from anyone!"
Bai Yueyao was so thoroughly shut down that she couldn't say a word. She could only glare angrily at Wang Erlaizi and his straight man, gritting her teeth in hatred.
Wang Erlai and his companion weren't afraid of him at all. Besides, the journey was rather dull, and it would be quite fun to provoke the "toad."
Seeing that Wang Erlaizi and Bai Yueyao were speechless after being confronted by Wang Erlaizi, Director Wei simply stopped talking.
He's almost numb to Bai Yueyao's occasional pop-up antics now!
She's just too good at causing trouble; Director Wei has gotten used to her annoyance!
The suffering we are experiencing now is all due to the sins we committed when we were taking in educated youth, without properly observing the situation.
To Wang Erlaizi's surprise, no matter how much he provoked Bai Yueyao along the way, Bai Yueyao didn't say anything.
So much so that Wang Erlaizi was smug and boasted to himself that his words were so provocative that Bai Yueyao had "enlightened" and changed her ways, becoming a new person!
Little did they know, Bai Yueyao's silence was actually a huge secret she was holding back.
It was already past 10 p.m. when the group walked back to the farm.
But unlike every day, the farm at this time today was not quiet at all; instead, it was bustling with activity, filled with the sounds of gongs and drums.
The villagers were all gathered in the yard where the tractors were parked. The yard was surrounded by villagers three layers deep. If you didn't know better, you would think something terrible had happened!
As soon as Director Wei entered the courtyard, he heard Accountant Zheng, who was guarding the courtyard, excitedly holding up the register and saying:
"Old Wei, you guys have raided the Dragon Palace this year! How come you've caught so many fish!"
Director Wei said smugly:
"Don't talk nonsense about robbing the Dragon Palace. We rely purely on our eyesight and skills!"
"Our biggest catch this year weighed over 2,000 jin (1,000 kg). Can you guess how we hauled it up?"
