Chapter 187 Temporary Workers at the Food Factory (2/2)

It's just before dawn. If she gets cocky and messes things up, she'll be asking for trouble. That would be like an old man drinking poison and complaining that he's too old for the world!

Moreover, 1975 was only three years after the resumption of the college entrance examination, which was not a long-term job, so why bother?

Although the job in the city would be more expensive to sell, it's not worth the risk for that extra money!

Moreover, the conditions offered by Director Li were really not good, and had no appeal whatsoever.

Director Li couldn't fool his master, so he quickly set his sights on Wang Erlaizi, his "first apprentice."

He said to Wang Erlaizi with a beaming smile:

"Comrade, we've known each other for over half a month, and all I've heard people call you is 'Second Rascal,' but I still don't know your real name."

Looking at Director Li's wolfish smile, Wang Erlaizi got goosebumps; he felt that Director Li had ill intentions.

However, he was a grown man with nothing to his name, so he had nothing that anyone would covet, and he wasn't afraid!

Wang Erlaizi blurted out:

“My name is Wang Yingjun. When my mother gave birth to me, she thought I was really good-looking and predicted that I would grow up to be very handsome, so she named me Yingjun. I have to say, the name suits my temperament quite well.”

When Director Li heard this, his mouth twitched. If he didn't need someone's help, he would have just turned around and left. How could this person have no idea about his own situation?

Director Li, clutching his aching conscience, complimented:

"Yes, that's right. The first time I saw you, young man, I thought you had a great presence!"

"Um, how long have you been learning from Master Zhong?"

Wang Erlaizi thought that Director Li was going to do something as unethical as "putting down the bowl and criticizing the cooking skills." He was going to complain that Chef Zhong had brought too many people and ate too much, yet he wasn't being paid enough!

So, with a quick thought, he made up a story:

"Of course, I started learning from Master Zhong as soon as she arrived. But, since Master Zhong is a woman and I'm a man, it wasn't appropriate for me to be her apprentice. So I was just an unofficial member and didn't become an apprentice!"

"But don't worry, we'll all learn the same things. We're here to help out, not to freeload!"

Director Li didn't realize that Wang Erlaizi was trying to cover up his true intentions; he only heard that Wang Erlaizi wasn't a proper apprentice and wasn't even a full-time employee.

That's great! Now it'll be so easy to fool him!

Director Li's smile deepened, and he said warmly:

"It's such a pity you didn't become an apprentice. I think your skills are really good!"

"When I delivered the parts the other day, you found them quickly and accurately!"

Wang Erlaizi thought to himself, "That's because I have a good memory. I'm not bragging, but with a memory like that, he hasn't met his match yet!"

Flattered and elated, Wang Erlaizi boasted:

"Well, what else can I say? A great teacher produces great students. Master Zhong's skills are unparalleled, so he's definitely a great teacher. And with my quick and good learning ability, I deserve the title of great student too!"

Anyway, I don't know this Director Li. Let him brag and make him happy. At worst, he'll deny that he said it. I don't believe that Director Li can remember every word other people say, just like he does.

Director Li never imagined that Wang Erlaizi was just bragging; he actually took it seriously.

Looking at his "promising student" Wang Erlaizi, Director Li was so excited he was almost in tears. He grabbed Wang Erlaizi tightly and invited him:

"Comrade Wang Yinglang, you see, you're not a formal employee in Dongsheng Commune, so why don't you come work at our food factory!"

"Although our factory can't give you a permanent position, temporary work is no problem. You'll be doing temporary work anyway, and the city is much better than the commune!"

This is a huge misunderstanding. Director Li thought that Wang Erlaizi, as an unofficial apprentice, must at least be a temporary worker.
