Chapter 22 Wei Youliang and Master Zhong

As soon as Zhong Wanwan finished speaking, the two of them couldn't help but laugh.

Seeing that Xia Ning hadn't come over for a while, the little radish head, who was getting a bit impatient, took a piece of candy from Xia Ning and shouted loudly at her:

"Xia Zhiqing, are you still going to ask? If not, we're going to have some fun. If you want to ask again anytime, just go to Director Wei's house and say you're looking for Wei Youliang!"

The talkative little radish head is the leader of this group of radish heads, Wei Youliang, the eldest grandson of Farm Manager Wei, who is 9 years old.

The little guy was quite loyal. He felt that Xia Ning hadn't asked them a few questions, so he couldn't just take Xia Ning's candy for nothing. That's why he brought a few other kids and waited for Xia Ning at the same spot.

Xia Ning quickly pulled Zhong Wanwan over and said:

"If you take up a little more of your playtime, I'll give you each a piece of candy after I finish asking you questions."

Although Wei Youliang coveted the candy Xia Ning offered, he was a man of his word. He had agreed that he and his friends would each receive one piece of candy as payment, so there was no reason for him to ask for more.

Seeing how loose Xia Ning's grip was, Wei Youliang sighed and, like a little adult, advised Xia Ning:

"Xia, how can you be so extravagant? We agreed on a piece of candy each as payment, and you didn't even get a good deal to begin with. Now you're adding an extra piece. Even if your family had mountains of gold and silver, they couldn't afford to spend like this!"

"You're lucky you ran into a few good people like us. If it were someone else, you would have suffered a huge loss!"

After saying that, Wei Youliang shook his head at Xia Ning, leaving Xia Ning looking helpless.

Seeing such an interesting child, Zhong Wanwan couldn't help but chuckle and said:

"Little Liang, your criticism is quite right. How about I ask you a few questions too? After you're done, I'll give each of you a piece of candy!"

Upon hearing that he could earn more sugar, Wei Youliang was delighted and said:

"Don't call me a kid. My grandpa said I'm a grown man now!"

"Ask me any questions you may have. There's nothing about our farm that I don't know!"

Zhong Wanwan thought for a moment and asked:

"On our farm, which household has fewer than five people?"

Wei Youliang introduced Zhong Wanwan to each household, saying:

“Most families on our farm haven’t split up; there are very few families with fewer than five people.”

"It's Grandpa Zheng's house, Uncle Wang Erlai's house, Grandma Sun, Grandma Bai, and Aunt Wang's house."

Zhong Wanwan knew about Accountant Zheng's family situation, and Wang Erlaizi didn't fit the criteria either, so only these three families remained!

Zhong Wanwan and Xia Ning exchanged a glance, and Xia Ning continued to ask, following up on Zhong Wanwan's question:

"Youliang, could you tell me in detail about the situation of Grandma Sun, Grandma Bai, and Aunt Wang's family that you just mentioned?"

"Who are the members of their families? Where do they live? Why are there so few people in their families?"

Wei Youliang is indeed a smart kid, worthy of being the farm manager's grandson.

Upon hearing Xia Ning's question, his eyes darted around, and instead of answering Xia Ning's question, he asked her in return:

"Xia, you don't want to live in the educated youth compound anymore, do you want to find a place to live on your own?"

Xia Ning was stumped by Wei Youliang's question, unsure whether to tell the truth or keep it from the child.

Zhong Wanwan was quite interested in this clever little guy, and she asked curiously:

"With grain available, how did you guess that Xia, the educated youth, wanted to find a place to stay?"

Wei Youliang chuckled and said:

"Xia, the educated youth, only asked about Grandma Sun, Grandma Bai, and Aunt Wang's houses. Wasn't that because she didn't want any men in those places? I guessed she was looking for a place to stay!"

Zhong Wanwan asked again:

"Then which of these three families do you think is most suitable for Xia Zhiqing to stay at?"

Wei Youliang shook his head and said:

“I don’t think any of these three places are suitable. Grandma Sun’s house only has one room for three generations of her family to live in. The environment is not even as good as the educated youth’s home!”

"Aunt Wang does have a spare room, but she's prone to taking advantage of others and has a gossipy nature, so it's not really appropriate for her."

"As for Grandma Bai's house, although the yard is big and there are empty rooms, it's just Grandma Bai and Sister Pan Gui living there. But Grandma Bai hates being disturbed by outsiders the most, so there's no way she would agree to let Xia Zhiqing stay there!"

After hearing Wei Youliang's words, Xia Ning and Wei Youliang both realized that the most suitable place for Xia Ning to live was actually Grandma Bai's house in the back.

But if they don't want to be disturbed by outsiders, then it would be impolite for them to contact them again!

Xia Ning felt a little disappointed, as she hadn't found a suitable family to marry into.

There's no way she could stay in the Sun family; three generations of a family live in one house.

As for the Wang family, although she wouldn't mind being taken advantage of a little, she couldn't stay with a gossipy family!

She needs to visit her maternal grandfather and maternal uncle frequently. If this gets discovered and spreads, the consequences will be unimaginable!

It seems this matter can only be discussed in the long run. She will inquire about it slowly after the autumn harvest is over!

Xia Ning nodded to Zhong Wanwan, who understood what she meant. She took out some candy from her pocket and was about to give it to the little radishes one by one.

Wei Youliang stopped him, saying:

"Master Zhong, this is what you and Xia Zhiqing asked about, so forget about your candy!"

Zhong Wanwan patted Wei Youliang's little head and said:

"I know you have principles. This is hush money for you. You absolutely mustn't tell anyone that Xia Zhiqing wants to move out!"

Wei Youliang puffed out her little chest and raised her head proudly, saying:

"Even if you don't give me candy, I won't tell anyone!"

Zhong Wanwan quite liked Wei Youliang, and she nodded, saying:

"I know, I know, Youliang is the most loyal friend. But I still have to give you this candy. When you have time, come to my house and play with Baiyang, okay?"

Zhong Wanwan felt that although Wei Youliang was young, he was quick-witted and understood everything. Letting such a child play with Zhong Baiyang would help Zhong Baiyang's character development.

Wei Youliang looked at Zhong Wanwan with bright eyes and said:

"Really? I can really play with Master Zhong?"

Wei Youliang had heard his grandfather and aunt say that Zhong Baiyang was smart and, most importantly, knew how to repair tractors.

In the child's eyes, his second uncle, who drives a tractor, is already quite impressive, not to mention Zhong Wanwan and Zhong Baiyang, who can repair tractors!

Zhong Wanwan is already his aunt's master, so he can't become her apprentice anymore, otherwise wouldn't that be a generational difference?

So, this kid set his sights on Zhong Baiyang and wanted to become Zhong Baiyang's apprentice!

This kid was just worried about not having any connections, and Zhong Wanwan handed him a ladder!

Fearing that Zhong Wanwan might change her mind, Wei Youliang jumped three feet high and said:

"Master Zhong, I'm free right now, I'm going to go play with Little Master Zhong!"

After saying that, Wei Youliang dashed off towards Zhong Wanwan's house like a shot.

The group of kids behind him, seeing their "boss" run away, also followed Wei Youliang and ran towards Zhong Wanwan's house.
