Chapter 37 How can we not fight back! (1/2)

Seeing that Zhong Wanwan was really leaving, the old man was a little disappointed. He wanted to try and build a relationship with her, so why did she leave so suddenly!

Since the food hadn't been left behind, the rooster had to be delivered even more.

The old man had the tractor driver hold Zhong Wanwan and the others back, and then ran home as fast as he could.

The old man's short legs moved so fast they were almost blurry!

Looking at the old man's pace, Zhong Wanwan sighed inwardly, "Captain Hu is really in good shape. Even at 17, I can't run at that speed!"

Within five minutes, the old man came panting over, carrying a very fat rooster.

Behind it followed an old lady, who stared intently at the rooster, clearly feeling very sorry for it!

The old man stuffed the rooster into Zhong Wanwan's arms and said:

"Master Zhong, this rooster has been raised by us for 3 years. It'll definitely taste delicious when stewed!"

"You absolutely must accept this gift. If it weren't for your excellent skills, our village wouldn't have missed the autumn harvest, and the tractors might have been totaled!"

Zhong Wanwan refused:

"This is all part of my job, but I can't accept this rooster!"

This rooster looks to weigh 7-8 jin (3.5-4 catties), it's really big. If it were on the black market, it would sell for 5-6 yuan. How could she accept such a heavy gift!

Upon hearing that Zhong Wanwan refused, the old man became anxious and said:

"This is a thank-you gift from our village. Master Zhong, do you think it's too little? This is quite a lot. This rooster is big and has a lot of meat. One rooster is equivalent to two small hens!"

Seeing that the old man had misunderstood, Zhong Wanwan quickly explained:

"It's not that I think the gift is too small, it's that it's too generous. If Captain Hu really wants to thank me, I'd be more than happy to have a couple of bunches of green beans from your own plot!"

Green beans are so plentiful this season! If you plant a whole circle of them around your own plot of land, you can eat more than you can eat!

Therefore, Zhong Wanwan felt no guilt whatsoever about accepting this thank-you gift!

Seeing that Zhong Wanwan didn't complain about the small amount of money, the old man breathed a sigh of relief.

Although in terms of meat, this three-year-old rooster is equivalent to two young hens in the family.

However, those two little hens are the old woman's "lifeblood." If he were to actually give them away, she would scratch his face until it was covered in welts!

When he heard that Zhong Wanwan wanted green beans, he immediately told his wife to pick a basketful for Zhong Wanwan to take back!

But we have to give them the chicken. Zhong Wanwan fixed the tractor, which was a huge help. We can't let them go back empty-handed!

The old man stubbornly insisted:

"You can pick the green beans now, Aunt Hu, but you absolutely have to take this rooster. If you don't, you're disrespecting me, Old Hu!"

Zhong Wanwan couldn't persuade the old man otherwise, so she had no choice but to say:

"Captain Hu, I definitely can't accept this for free. How about this, I'll buy this rooster!"

"If Captain Hu doesn't let me pay, then he's trying to make me make a mistake!"

As she spoke, Zhong Wanwan counted out 5 yuan from her pocket and handed it to Captain Hu, making it seem as if she didn't want the rooster either if Captain Hu refused to accept the money!

Seeing Zhong Wanwan's insistence, Captain Hu had no choice but to compromise:

"They don't offer 5 yuan. Even if you take it to the recycling station, they'll only give you 3 yuan. Master Zhong, 3 yuan is fine!"

That's perfect! Zhong Wanwan readily handed over the 3 yuan to Captain Hu and happily accepted the rooster.

This is a rooster that's been raised for three years; it's perfect for stir-frying.

Looking at the rooster's thick thighs, Zhong Wanwan's mouth was practically watering!
