Chapter 44 Where Did the Blood Come From? (2/2)

Bai Yueyao saw Zhong Wanwan approach and quickly dodged to the side.

The force was too great, and the wild boar leg was quite heavy, almost causing Bai Yueyao to fall. Bai Yueyao swayed from side to side a couple of times, barely managing to regain her balance.

Bai Yueyao was so scared that her heart was in her throat, thinking that she was about to be exposed. Fortunately, she had a good sense of balance and narrowly escaped.

Just now, given Bai Yueyao's fierce attack, although Zhong Wanwan didn't see what was in the basket, she was certain that it was quite heavy.

Zhong Wanwan pretended to care about Bai Yueyao and said:

"Bai Zhiqing, are you alright? You almost fell!"

"I see your basket is quite heavy, take it off quickly, let's carry it together!"

Bai Yueyao protected the basket on her back and said:

"No need, it's not heavy, I can carry it myself!"

Zhong Wanwan adopted an attitude of "I mean well" and said:

"Look at you, why are you being so polite? We're all educated youth, we should help each other out. Come on, let me help you with that!"

Zhong Wanwan didn't really want to snatch the basket; she had just noticed a dark red mark on the bottom of the basket and wanted to touch it.

Bai Yueyao was terrified and turned to run towards the educated youth compound. Zhong Wanwan took two steps to catch up, reached under the basket, and looked down to find her hand covered in blood.

Zhong Wanwan screamed loudly:

"Ah, ah, ah, someone's been murdered! There's so much blood!"

Regardless of the specifics, nothing is as shocking as hearing that someone committed murder!

Sure enough, as soon as Zhong Wanwan spoke, the nearby villagers rushed over to ask:

"Zhong Zhiqing, what blood? Who wants to kill someone?"

"Who died? Who died? What happened?"

"Oh my god, Zhong Zhiqing, your hands are covered in blood! Where are you injured?"

...

The villagers bombarded Zhong Wanwan with questions, asking what had happened!

Zhong Wanwan pointed at Bai Yueyao and said:

"I saw that Bai Zhiqing's basket was too heavy, so I wanted to help her carry it. Bai Zhiqing kept avoiding me, and I accidentally bumped into the bottom of the basket, and my hands were covered in blood!"

"This is terrifying! How can there be so much blood? Could Bai Zhiqing have killed someone?"

Bai Yueyao was dumbfounded; she hadn't expected Zhong Wanwan to pull such a stunt.

Murder? How could she even think of that? With her skinny arms and legs, who could she possibly kill? Besides, she wouldn't have the guts!

She wanted to explain that she didn't kill anyone, but how could she explain so much blood? She really didn't want to go through all that trouble to raise the wild boar and then contribute it to everyone.

Why should she? She was terrified and carried it all the way down the mountain, how could she give it to someone else?

Bai Yueyao racked her brains for a reason, and then a flash of inspiration struck her. She thought of saying that she had special circumstances and had brushed against the basket on her back.

Upon closer inspection, she noticed that the villagers included not only aunties and grandmothers but also quite a few men, and her face involuntarily flushed.

To save the wild boar meat, Bai Yueyao closed her eyes and steeled her heart, saying:

"Zhong Zhiqing, what nonsense are you spouting? What murderous stuff!"

"That's right, my period came early and I didn't notice that I smeared blood on my basket."

"Why are you shouting so loudly? It's so embarrassing if you tell everyone about this!"

As Bai Yueyao spoke, she wiped away her tears. Her tearful appearance was truly pitiful!

The aunties and older women around were all fooled by Bai Yueyao. One kind-hearted older woman even took off her thin coat and handed it to Bai Yueyao to tie around her waist.
