Zhong Wanwan retorted, not to be outdone:
"Aunt Wang, have you become my grandfather's second wife? How come you're acting like an elder to me?"
"Besides, didn't I learn these words from Aunt Wang? Just because Aunt Wang can say them doesn't mean I can't."
This left Aunt Wang speechless, and she turned her face away, ignoring Zhong Wanwan.
Zhong Wanwan was too lazy to deal with her, so she turned her head and looked at the scenery outside the car window.
Zhong Wanwan initially thought it was just a minor incident, but halfway there, she overheard Aunt Wang whispering to someone next to her:
"These young people nowadays are really something else! You say one thing and they'll have ten more to say!"
"I really don't know how my elders raised me, I have no manners at all!"
Zhong Wanwan shook her head and muttered to herself:
"The elderly these days are not worthy of respect at all. They act like they're old and domineering when they go out, and they're always trying to take advantage of others. They don't even know how to leave any good karma for their descendants!"
Granny Wang was so angry she looked like a toad, gritting her teeth as she said:
"You little brat, who are you calling an old woman who acts superior and who doesn't live a virtuous life?"
Zhong Wanwan said with an innocent look:
"Aunt Wang, I was just talking about some social phenomena, why are you taking it so seriously!"
"These days, I've seen people pick up money, but this is the first time I've ever heard of someone picking up insults!"
Aunt Wang saw that Zhong Wanwan was sharp-tongued and could not gain any advantage in a verbal battle.
I could only remain silent and endure it until I got off the bus.
As soon as she got off the bus, Zhong Wanwan picked up two carrying poles of things and headed straight for the grain station.
Aunt Wang watched Zhong Wanwan's retreating figure and muttered to herself:
"Skinny as a mantis, swaying like a shrew when picking cotton, yet he wants to eat refined grains. He's useless at everything, but he can never get enough to eat..."
An auntie from a nearby farm, who knew Zhong Wanwan, heard what Aunt Wang said and defended Zhong Wanwan:
“That Zhong Zhiqing is our Red Star Farm’s tractor repairman. His repair skills are top-notch, and he doesn’t actually have to do farm work.”
"They earn a decent salary, and even if they eat refined grains every meal, they can afford it!"
Aunt Wang never expected that Zhong Wanwan would have this skill; it was a craft, a secure job for life.
If she taught this to her sons, wouldn't her family be set for life?
Especially her youngest son, whose health was not as good as his older brothers. She had wanted to find him a job for a long time, but she had no way to do so.
Aunt Wang's eyes darted around, and she asked the aunt who knew Zhong Wanwan:
"What's this educated youth Zhong's name? Where is he from? How old is he? Does he have a girlfriend on your farm?"
Upon hearing Aunt Wang's question, those who knew Aunt Zhong Wanwan immediately understood what Aunt Wang was up to.
She looked Wang Da Niang up and down and shook her head:
"Your family shouldn't even dream about them; you're not good enough for them at all!"
After saying that, he didn't even look at Granny Wang's angry face, and turned and left.
After watching her leave, Aunt Wang stamped her foot and said:
"If you don't tell me, I'm not supposed to find out? Fine, don't tell me then, I don't care anyway!"
She's just a big mantis, and all she's good-looking about is her face. What's wrong with her youngest son being good enough for her?
