Chapter 8 The Dispute Over the Brick and Tile House (1/2)

Zhong Wanwan definitely didn't want to live in the educated youth compound; the thought of so many people living together was unbearable.

Originally, she was thinking of discussing with Director Wei whether she could stay in the farm's tool storage room and then hire someone to build a house during the off-season.

I never expected that Director Wei would be so considerate of her and choose such a good place for her.

The yard where the tractors were stored was mentioned in the original book; it used to be the large yard of a landlord.

After the land reform, the courtyard was taken back.

It was originally intended to be used as a farm office, but because of its remote location, right next to the entrance to the mountains, we had to give up on that idea.

The entire courtyard is made up of houses with bluestone tiles, and even the courtyard ground is paved with bluestone. Otherwise, the farm's most prized tractor wouldn't be parked here.

The three bluestone houses in the backyard were even better than the ones built in front, and they also had a large cellar of about 100 square meters underground, because this was the house where the owner originally stored grain and property.

This house originally had a 2-meter-high wall, but it was destroyed during the land redistribution!

Hearing that she had been assigned such a nice place to live, Zhong Wanwan said happily:

"Thank you, Director Wei. Then the three of us siblings won't squeeze in with the other educated youth!"

"Building the wall was for my siblings and me to do some private work. Director Wei helped arrange the people, so we can't take too much advantage of the farm!"

“How about this, my brother and I are new here and we can’t be fed. We’ll just give one yuan a day to the person who helped build the house, but we won’t provide meals. Is that okay?”

Zhong Wanwan thought it through clearly. It was only a matter of 30 yuan or so. If she used the farm's property, it would not only seem stingy, but it would also be difficult to ask her to build a higher structure.

It's better to just spend your own money and build as tall as you want!

Seeing how sensible Zhong Wanwan was, and how she volunteered to pay for the construction herself, Director Wei was even more pleased.

Moreover, the wages Zhong Wanwan paid were reasonable. Other families would pay 80 cents for a meal, but Zhong Wanwan paid 20 cents more for not providing meals, which did not disrupt the market rate at all.

Director Wei nodded and said:

"Okay, I'll pick out a few people for you later, they're all skilled at building houses..."

Before Director Wei could finish speaking, Tang Zixuan, who had been egged on by Bai Yueyao for a while, spoke up:

“Zhong, the cost of building the courtyard wall should be split equally among me, Ning, and Bai. After all, it’s for all of us educated youth in the courtyard, so how can we let you siblings spend so much money!”

Tang Zixuan's words seemed eloquent, but they were actually setting a trap for Zhong Wanwan.

As long as Zhong Wanwan agrees to it, and Xia Ning and Bai Yueyao pay for it, the three of them can move in openly and legitimately.

As soon as Tang Zixuan said this, Xia Ning knew what Tang Zixuan meant.

She just thought that since she and Zhong Zhiqing got along well along the way, she could take advantage of Zhong Zhiqing by bringing her along, and Zhong Zhiqing wouldn't say anything because of her!

Even if she did have that much influence, she wouldn't want to give it to Bai Yueyao!

Although she didn't want to live in the educated youth compound, Xia Ning had money, so she could build a small house next to the compound during the off-season for farming, and then her living situation would be solved!

Xia Ning sneered:

"Don't count me in. I'm not a bad person who would want to stay at someone else's place and then dig a hole for them!"

Xia Ning brought this up directly, partly to avoid being used by Tang Zixuan, and partly to remind Zhong Wanwan.

Zhong Wanwan helped her out of a predicament on the train, and Xia Ning has always remembered this kindness!

Zhong Wanwan nodded to Xia Ning, indicating that she understood what she meant.

Then Zhong Wanwan said disdainfully:

“If the three of us siblings build a courtyard wall, we won’t bother Tang and Bai, the educated youth. Otherwise, if someone insists on moving in, it will be such a hassle. Don’t you think so, Tang?”

Tang Zixuan's thoughts were exposed, his face flushed red and then paled, but he still pretended to be calm and said:
