Chapter 252 Qiu Zean's Fiancée (2/2)

Fearing that Zhong Wanwan wouldn't be able to return for spring plowing, Director Wei had been so worried these past few days that he couldn't sleep at night, and blisters kept forming on his lips.

As soon as Zhong Wanwan entered the farm, she went to Director Wei's house to cancel her leave. Director Wei was so happy to see Zhong Wanwan that his eyes were practically invisible.

Upon hearing that Qiu Ze'an had escorted Zhong Wanwan back, Director Wei grasped Qiu Ze'an's hand and thanked him.

"Thank you very much, Battalion Commander Qiu. Master Zhong, you've gone to a lot of trouble for us along the way."

Qiu Zean praised Zhong Wanwan:

"You're welcome. Master Zhong has helped us a lot this time. He repaired one of our army's nearly scrapped Jiefang trucks, saving us from a great loss!"

"Not only that, Master Zhong has inspected all the vehicles in our unit. She's been working herself to the bone lately, and she even fell ill on the way back!"

Qiu Ze'an encountered Pi San Niang on the road and did not publicize the matter of arresting her. The matter was not yet settled, and the fewer people who knew, the better.

This is not only to prevent leaks, but also to protect Zhong Wanwan.

Upon hearing that Zhong Wanwan had fallen ill on the way, Director Wei said anxiously:

"You're sick? Are you fully recovered? I was wondering why Master Zhong had lost so much weight after his trip; turns out he was sick!"

"No, we need to get your aunt to kill a chicken and make you some chicken soup to nourish you. Oh, and there's also Youliang. That kid is the best at setting fish traps. Make him set the traps today, and we'll have crucian carp soup tomorrow."

After saying that, Director Wei rushed out without waiting for Zhong Wanwan's reply.

Zhong Wanwan's face was full of black lines...

She has a cold and fever, not that she's pregnant or giving birth. Why would she drink chicken soup and crucian carp soup...?

Before 10 minutes had passed, Zhong Wanwan saw Aunt Wei enter the house with a hen that had been slit in its throat, her face beaming with smiles.

"Chef Zhong is back. Should we make the chicken soup plain or with some dried mushrooms?"

"If you're worried about it being greasy, I'll add a handful of small hazel mushrooms. If you want something more authentic, I'll make a simple stew!"

Looking at the hen that had just died, Zhong Wanwan couldn't bring herself to refuse. She smiled and said:

"Add more small hazel mushrooms, and it would be even better if you added some potatoes and glass noodles after it boils!"

By stewing a big pot like this, everyone can have some nourishing food.

Aunt Wei said with a look of disapproval:

"Why put potatoes and glass noodles in? That would make it like stewed chicken! No, no, this is for you to nourish your body. Just add a handful of small hazel mushrooms for flavor!"

After saying that, Aunt Wei didn't ask Zhong Wanwan any more questions and went straight to the back to pluck the feathers from the hen.

Zhong Wanwan glanced helplessly at Qiu Zean, who then teased her:

"You can tell that Master Zhong is popular. Aunt Wei really wants to give you some nourishment!"

"And then there's Director Wei, who, after saying only a few words, went to find someone to put fish in your basket!"

Zhong Wanwan felt both heartbroken and helpless. As soon as she returned, Aunt Wei's brooding hen suffered.

Qiu Ze'an felt even more respect and pity for Zhong Wanwan. Zhong Wanwan was an educated youth sent to the countryside, and in fact, the farms and production teams below were somewhat resistant to educated youth.

The educated youth were not particularly outstanding in their work, yet they were given a large share of the grain, which caused some resentment among the villagers. The brigade leader and farm manager also disliked them.

However, Qiu Ze'an could tell that Director Wei and Aunt Wei genuinely cared about Zhong Wanwan.

Only through sincere and persistent efforts can one earn the trust of others and truly treat them as family.
