Chapter 550 The Voice of China Debuts, A Bombshell Arrives

The living room of Shaw Brothers' hilltop villa.

Run Run Shaw sat on the sofa, the ashtray in front of him filled with cigarette butts.

One week!

For a whole week, Run Run Shaw was in an extremely bad mood.

"Snake in the Eagle's Shadow" broke 500,000 in one day, almost broke 2 million in two days, broke 5 million in three days, and broke 10 million in a week...

Every day when I open my eyes, the newspapers I see are all praising "Snake in the Eagle's Shadow," praising Lo Wei and Jackie Chan, praising Kobayashi Tenmo, and praising Asia Film Company.

What's even more disgusting is that occasionally some newspapers praise Run Run Shaw for his good eye, saying that he was willing to take the initiative to let "Snake in the Eagle's Shadow" be shown in Shaw Brothers cinemas.

This made it impossible for Run Run Shaw to remove "Snake in the Eagle's Shadow" from Shaw Brothers theaters for the next few days, even if it meant sacrificing profits.

Meanwhile, Mona Fong, who had also come specifically for this occasion, sat on the sofa with Run Run Shaw, her face also looking quite grim.

The television was broadcasting a program from Asia Television.

Tonight at 8 PM, the first episode of "The Voice of Asia," promoted by Asia Television, will begin.

Run Run Shaw didn't believe that Lin Huowang could pull off anything on a singing competition show!

"Hmph, it's just a singing competition..."

Shaw looked at the opening credits of "The Voice of Asia" on TV, especially the four red chairs with their backs to the stage, and snorted coldly.

"Isn't it just hiring people to sing and dance? What's so new about that? Our TVB's 'Enjoy Yourself Tonight' has been running for so many years, no one can compare! Does he think he can steal our audience by throwing money at a fancy stage? How naive!"

Fang Yihua, on the other hand, felt increasingly uneasy as she looked at the gaudy stage on TV and the four chairs with their backs to it.

"Sir RunRun, their show seems to have cost a lot of money. And this 'blind audition' rule sounds very novel; I'm afraid the audience will like it..."

"A cheap trick! All show and no substance!" Run Run Shaw interrupted her. "The audience is watching for the stars and the content, not a few spinning chairs! Let's see how he pulls this off!"

The program has begun.

The host explained, "We'll only listen to the voice, not the appearance! The mentors will turn their backs to the contestants and decide whether to turn around based solely on their singing!"

Run Run Shaw shook his head inwardly: What a mess! If you don't look at a singer's face when selecting singers, is that still a selection process?

Moreover, how many people will actually sign up for a newly launched singing competition program that claims to be the best voice in Asia?

I'm afraid most of the participants will be amateurs; not even a professional singer will come!

Sure enough, although the first few contestants sang well, they did not reach the professional level or have any special timbre that could move people, so none of the four mentors turned around.

Each of these four individuals, taken individually, is a prominent figure in the Hong Kong music scene today.

Sam Hui, known as the "God of Songs," is the pioneer of Cantonese pop music. His songs capture the essence of everyday life and he is an idol in the hearts of countless people in Hong Kong.

Joseph Koo and James Wong are known as the "Two Saints of Koo and Wong," one composing and the other writing lyrics. Together they created countless popular classic hits, and can be said to have supported half of the Hong Kong music scene.

Danny Chan, on the other hand, was a rising star who had just returned from Japan. He was young, handsome, and talented, and was the dream lover of countless girls.

The fact that Asia Television was able to invite all four of these people to be mentors at the same time is enough to shock the industry.

But almost twenty minutes into the show, no one had turned around, and the songs the contestants sang weren't particularly outstanding or memorable. In his mind, Run Run Shaw had already sentenced this Asia Television program to death.

A show with this kind of effect would have been canceled in the last episode on TVB.

Shaw was in a very relaxed and cheerful mood at the moment. He said to Fang Yihua beside him, "Ahua, see? So what if we invited these four people? They still can't find any good talent! They're just making a fuss! A complete waste of money!"

However, the next contestant's appearance instantly changed the situation.

A young man named Leslie Cheung, dressed in a leather jacket and looking rather edgy, walked onto the stage.

The host's narration began at the right time, but only the viewers in front of the television could hear it; the mentors on site could not.

"This contestant, named Leslie Cheung, came from a wealthy family, but he was passionate about music. Originally, he was going to sign up for a singing competition held by RTV, but after seeing our groundbreaking 'blind audition' format of 'The Voice of Asia,' he resolutely changed his mind."

He believes that here, his voice will receive the fairest judgment. He fought his way through the auditions and preliminary rounds to finally stand on this live competition stage.

Sure enough, this introduction immediately aroused the anticipation of many viewers in front of the television.

The audience felt a bit sorry for the singers who didn't turn around. They thought the previous singers sang quite well, so why didn't the mentors approve of any of them?

And then Leslie Cheung came on stage...

He started singing, but only sang one line.

Shaw was stunned as he watched the television.

This young man has a very distinctive voice, and his stage presence is so good that it doesn't seem like he's a newcomer.

"Slap! Slap!"

On the TV screen, the chairs of Sam Hui and Danny Chan suddenly spun around!

"Wow!!!"

The audience gasped in surprise!

Then, as Leslie Cheung's performance reached its climax, the other two mentors also turned around.

This is the first contestant on "The Voice of Asia" to have all four judges turn around for him.

In an instant, the atmosphere of the entire program was brought to its peak.
