This is already a full twenty minutes late!
"An emergency meeting? Hmph, just a show of force," MacLehose muttered with dissatisfaction.
Lin Huowang, however, didn't care at all. He even picked up his teacup with interest and began to taste it: "Hmm, not bad Assam black tea. It seems that even though the British are about to go bankrupt, they still don't take tea lightly."
Ten more minutes passed.
The meeting room door was then pushed open.
Several British executives, led by Sir Humphrey, CEO of Leyland, strolled in slowly, cigars dangling from their lips.
They all looked arrogant, as if they didn't care about Lin Huowang and Mai Lihao at all.
"Oh, Governor MacLehose, I'm so sorry."
Sir Humphrey glanced dramatically at his watch. “London traffic, you know, is absolutely terrible.”
He sat down in the main seat without a second thought, then glanced at Lin Huowang and said in a condescending tone:
"This must be Mr. Kobayashi from Hong Kong Island, right? He's quite the young and promising man!"
The other director beside him, Lord Davis, didn't even glance at Lin Huowang, but was focused on trimming his nails.
"Sir, Mr. Kobayashi's sincerity is truly evident."
Suppressing his displeasure at being slighted, MacLehose began, "Regarding the letters of intent to acquire Rover, Land Rover, and MG, we have already..."
"Rover? Land Rover?"
Lord Davis interrupted him as if he had heard a joke.
"Your Excellency, are you joking?"
"Rover is one of Her Majesty the Queen's official vehicles. Land Rover is the designated vehicle for the Royal Army."
"These are symbols of our British Empire! They are our pride! They... are not for sale!"
He emphasized the words "not for sale," his disdain undisguised.
"Especially... selling it to... well, you know, an outsider."
Sir Humphrey, standing to the side, chuckled and chimed in, "Lord Davis is right. However, since Mr. Kobayashi has come from afar, we cannot let you leave empty-handed."
As he spoke, he flicked his cigarette ash in a show of generosity.
"The MG brand is worth discussing. It's a small, exquisite sports car brand, which is very suitable for your Asian... little hobbies."
"Of course, MG has a long history, and its brand value..."
As he spoke, he made a wicked gesture.
"Eighty million pounds. One price. And that's only because of Governor MacLehose."
As soon as the price was announced, MacLehose's face immediately darkened!
Eighty million pounds?!
Neither Land Rover nor Rover are for sale!
Buy a MG that's on the verge of bankruptcy, practically just an empty shell with a mountain of debt?
This isn't just asking for an exorbitant price; it's outright robbery! It's blatant humiliation!
Just as he was about to explode, Lin Huowang, who had been listening quietly, raised his hand to stop him.
Lin Huowang sneered and said:
"Eighty million pounds. A very...interesting price. Thank you for your generosity, gentlemen."
I will go back and seriously consider this proposal with my team.
After saying that, he didn't say anything more and turned to walk outside.
MacLehose was stunned for a moment, but could only suppress his anger and follow him out.
The moment the meeting room door closed.
A burst of unrestrained laughter immediately erupted from inside.
"Hahaha! Eighty million! Humphrey, you're a genius!"
"Did you see that kid's expression just now? He must have been terrified!"
"A nouveau riche from Hong Kong Island, does he really think he can buy a Rover and a Land Rover? Dream on!"
"Just wait and see. He'll go back and think about it for a few days. Maybe he'll still obediently pay that astronomical price to buy the MG. I know these Easterners; they're very concerned about saving face."
...
Inside a Rolls-Royce.
The atmosphere was extremely oppressive.
"This is outrageous!!"
Even MacLehose, who was also British, couldn't help but punch the handrail.
"Mr. Kobayashi! These vampires are blatant extortionists! They're robbers! Eighty million pounds for a dignified mansion? Why don't they just rob someone!"
Lin Huowang leaned back in his seat, closed his eyes, and slowly began to speak:
"Sir, don't rush. Fish... always need to be teased before they take the bait."
The more arrogant they are now, the more humble they will be when they come to us for help.
Seeing Kobayashi Tenno's confident and composed demeanor, Mai Lihao managed to suppress his anger somewhat.
But his doubts deepened. He was very curious: having come this far, what other tricks could Kobayashi Tenno have up his sleeve besides the "little blue pills"?
...
That afternoon, in the office of the editor of the literary section of The Times.
Editor-in-Chief Alistair Finch was currently dealing with a mountain of manuscripts in front of him with great frustration.
"What kind of trash is this now..."
He glanced impatiently at the corner of the table, where a package had been sent by Governor Murray MacLehose, containing what appeared to be a thick stack of manuscripts.
"Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone? What kind of name is that..."
Upon seeing this strange and unusual book title, his heart was immediately filled with disdain.
"Governor MacLehose's reputation is getting less and less valuable; he'll send me any kind of trash manuscript, no matter who it is. A Hong Kong businessman? He dares to write British magic stories? God, have mercy on me! I'll probably have to wash my eyes again in a bit..."
