What is black? What is white?
What does the gray between black and white represent?
Logically speaking, no one should like the night.
But there are still so many people huddled in the darkness, longing for light and hope, but afraid of being illuminated by the light.
The entire reception room fell into deathly silence after Lin Huowang recited Hou Gu Cheng's "A Generation".
This poem, "A Generation", is a short poem written by Gu Cheng, the representative poet of the Misty School, a few years later and published in the poetry magazine "Xingxing" in 1980.
Now it was taken out by Lin Huowang in 1977, but the timing can be said to be very appropriate.
Because the core idea expressed in this poem "A Generation" is a symbol and metaphor of a special period. The word "night" in the poem symbolizes the dark era of high political pressure and mental repression.
The use of black eyes for dual expression is both a product of the erosion of darkness in that era, the so-called vision alienated by the times, and a symbol of the awakening and resistance of the new generation of young people, because they use the keen sense given by darkness to look for light in turn.
And the "light" here at the end fully represents the hope, rationality and restoration of humanity that this generation urgently needs at this time. It can be said to truly reflect a generation's persistent pursuit of ideals and truth.
It can be said that...
If the song "A Generation" was published in this era, it would even gain more recognition and fanatical pursuit than "Facing the Sea, Spring Flowers Blooming".
After all, "Facing the Sea, Spring Flowers Bloom" is all about beauty and hope, a fantasy of optimism and hope flourishing and pursuing extreme romance.
However, the progression of the three concepts of darkness, eyes and light in "A Generation" has truly pulled this generation, or even several generations, who were delayed by a special period, out of a quagmire, and endowed them with the ability to see light and hope.
I can't help it!
Editor-in-chief Yan Chen's eyes moistened. After hearing this short poem of just a dozen words, his mind instantly flashed back to the special ten years in which he was beaten down, demoted, criticized, bullied, ridiculed, completely denied, self-criticized, despaired, and committed suicide...
In the midst of immense darkness and despair, he was finally rehabilitated, returned to his beloved job, embraced literature again, wandered in the ocean of poetry, and saw scenes of reconstruction.
He was even extremely shocked and puzzled as to why Lin Huowang could use just a dozen or so words to vividly describe such a disastrous era.
What is even more rare is that this poem does not describe suffering, but it tells the full story of suffering; it does not describe hope, but it gives it full of hope.
The vitality of "seeking light" displayed in the poem can make all readers burst out from the root of their souls.
"That's...that's great! That's amazing! Quick! Write it down! This poem is simply...simply amazing!"
Editor-in-Chief Yan, who is always eloquent, is unable to use fancy words to judge and praise the song "A Generation".
Using the most straightforward words like "that's great", "that's awesome", and "that's awesome" seems to be the most intuitive way to express the highest praise for the song "A Generation".
"This is incredible! Editor-in-chief, if this poem "A Generation" is published in our Poetry Magazine, it will definitely resonate with countless people, and it will also allow many people who are currently in darkness and hardship to see hope for the future and life!"
Editor Li Ying was also in tears at this time, because her father had also been overthrown during the special period, and she had lived with her mother in a cowshed in the suburbs of Beijing for a period of time.
Fortunately, their family was rehabilitated early, but the memories of that period are still deeply engraved in their minds.
Not to mention the educated youth present.
Everyone is an eyewitness of this era and has witnessed with their own eyes countless absurd and desperate things happening.
Liu Rumeng, who was standing next to Lin Huowang, had already burst into tears. She held her husband Lin Huowang's arm tightly with both hands and murmured, "Awang! This poem is so good!"
However, the second generation did not feel as deeply as they did.
After all, their parents have very high status and still work in important jobs even in special times.
Although I have seen many uncles and aunts being overthrown, I am not an eyewitness after all, and I lack the empathy of those who are in the darkness.
However, this does not prevent them from appreciating and admiring the song "A Generation".
Because even decades later, when a long time has passed since that special era, the poem "A Generation" is still studied, recited, appreciated and praised by young people of every generation.
Good poetry, like Tang poetry and Song lyrics, is timeless and can transcend time, infecting and moving generations of people.
"After writing the song 'A Generation', who can doubt Lin Huowang's talent? Who can doubt that 'Facing the Sea, Spring Flowers Bloom' was not written by a farmer like him?"
Xu Xiaodong also said with emotion, "Especially, once this poem "A Generation" is published again in "Poetry Magazine", it will definitely bring unprecedented prestige and fame to Lin Huowang."
Xu Xiaoyun added: "When I recited Facing the Sea, Spring Blossoms at home before, my father and uncles heard it and thought it was a good poem.
However, they all feel that this poem "Facing the Sea, Spring Flowers Blooming" is aimed at young people, promoting hope and beauty, and boosting young literary men and women's love and yearning for life.
