Chapter 64 Reunion

Chapter 64 Reunion

When I got off work, the snow outside had stopped and the entire city of Yanjing was shrouded in white. The snow on the road was just above my ankles. It was okay to walk, but it was a bit difficult to ride a bicycle.

Lin Weimin made an appointment with Qu Xiaowei to have a drink today, but no one expected that it would snow heavily today, and no one knew whether Qu Xiaowei could come.

On the west side of Guowenshe, a two-minute walk away is Chaonei Vegetable Market, which has the most complete supply of non-staple foods in Yanjing.

Lin Weimin came here after work. Regardless of whether Qu Xiaowei could come today, he just regarded it as improving his food.

He bought a pair of pig ears, a pound of fried peanuts, two sausages, and four salted duck eggs. There were not many vegetables in the market at that time, and cabbage was in season, so Lin Weimin bought a cabbage.

Back to the dormitory, the area is not big, about ten square meters, and the decoration is simple.

Lin Weimin was picking vegetables when Qu Xiaowei suddenly pushed open the dormitory door.

"Are you here?" Lin Weimin greeted Qu Xiaowei while cutting cabbage in his hand.

"Here we are." He looked for food as soon as he entered the room. When he saw the dishes on the table, he nodded and said, "This is a good snack."

"I'll give you six dishes and a soup today." Lin Weimin joked.

"Cold-boiled cabbage hearts, cold-boiled pig ears, fried peanuts, sausages, and salted duck eggs. These are only five dishes, and there's no soup yet." Qu Xiaowei counted on his fingers.

Lin Weimin took out the salted radish strips that he hadn't finished eating yesterday and said, "Aren't these six dishes?"

"What about the soup?"

Lin Weimin took out two unlabeled wine bottles from under the bed and said, "Isn't the soup here?"

Qu Xiaowei gave him a thumbs up and said, "If we talk about cutting corners, it's you!"

What we bought were all cold dishes and side dishes. It was very easy to prepare and it was done in more than ten minutes.

Qu Xiaowei took the initiative to set out the wine and food, and also arranged the chairs, "Please come in, old man."

The two sat down, Lin Weimin picked up a bottle of wine and filled it up for Qu Xiaowei first, then poured himself a glass.

Then he raised his glass and said, "This is the first time we've had dinner and drinks together since we graduated from the Institute of Literature!"

"Yeah, it's only been over a month, but it feels like a long time has passed."

The two of them sighed and drank the wine in their glasses.

“Ssss!”

After drinking a glass of wine, quickly eat a few bites of food to suppress your stress.

Qu Xiaowei chewed the vegetables and said, "This cabbage heart is well-mixed. I have some skills. How are you these days? Are you adapting to the editorial department?"

"Not bad. How are you?"

"I'm fine too. Didn't the institute give me a leave? I've been so idle for three months that I don't even know what to do."

"Why don't you write something?" Lin Weimin said.

Qu Xiaowei shook his head and smiled bitterly, "If I can write, then I will write. Alas, I don't know if it's because I'm too wild now, but I always feel like I can't calm down and write. After studying at the Institute of Literature for half a year, I feel like I can't write anymore."

"You have so many excuses. I think you have spent all your energy on eating, drinking, having fun and flirting with women," Lin Weimin said sarcastically.

Qu Xiaowei glared, "What do you mean by 'patting a woman'? That's my pen pal."

"Are we still together?" Lin Weimin was a little surprised. It wasn't easy to maintain a pen pal relationship for such a long time.

Qu Xiaowei rarely showed his shy side, "We made an appointment that she would come to visit me during the winter vacation."

Lin Weimin was slightly surprised. "Can that girl be assured? Isn't she afraid of being deceived by you?"

"What are you talking about? I'm a serious person."

"Yes, yes, you are the most serious."

Qu Xiaowei didn't want to dwell on this topic with him any more, so he changed the subject and asked, "Have you written anything new recently?"

"I'm writing a book and I'm almost done."

"Book? Script?"

"Um."

Qu Xiaowei asked in surprise: "Why did you suddenly think of writing a script?"

"I had a story in my mind at the time and told it to my teacher. He thought it was good and asked me to write it into a play. Now the People's Art Theatre is in need of good scripts."

Hearing this, Qu Xiaowei couldn't help but show envy in his eyes, "You are asked to write a script for a theater company? Your ancestors are so proud of themselves!"

"Oh, you can't say that. You have to get it first."

"Haha, that's true. I never thought that our Institute of Literature and Art would help you achieve your goal this time. If the People's Art Theatre really likes this script, they will have to call you a playwright in the future. Come on, let's have a drink just for this!"

Qu Xiaowei raised his glass to urge others to drink, and Lin Weimin and he took another sip.

The Erguotou with a temperature of over 50 degrees was a bit strong, and Qu Xiaowei took a bite of the sausage.

Lin Weimin suddenly stood up, took a magazine from the bedside and threw it on the table.

“What is this…”

Qu Xiaowei was about to ask, but his eyes were fixed on the cover of the magazine.

“Is this… an album?”

"Well, it will be sent soon."

His eyes wandered greedily on the cover of the magazine for a moment, then Qu Xiaowei opened it and counted carefully. Most of the works created by his classmates at that time were there, a total of 13 novels.

"Except for the three of you who were rejected directly, there was one revision that the editor-in-chief was not satisfied with and it was not ranked. The others are all on the list."

Stroking the cover of the magazine with his hand, a look of regret finally appeared on Qu Xiaowei's face.

"That's great! What a pity, my level is not up to it."

"Don't underestimate yourself. Actually, your writing is quite good, but you just don't work hard."

Qu Xiaowei smiled bitterly, "You might as well not comfort me."

He put the magazine on the table and said, "As for me, I guess there's no chance for me to do this in the future."

"Giving up so soon?" Lin Weimin knew he was referring to the path of writing.

"What else can I do if I don't give up? I can't write anything decent and I'm not willing to work hard. Just go with the flow. If nothing works out, I'll just go to work honestly."

Qu Xiaowei's attitude was a little depressed, but not decadent. Lin Weimin knew his family situation. His parents were employees of cultural units and were small leaders. He worked in the district cultural center. His job was easy and comfortable. He had only one sister at home and lived a stress-free life.

Writing is the icing on the cake for him, and even if this path doesn't work out, it won't affect his life in the slightest.

"It's you, Weimin. I remember when you first came to the class, you were much more careless than me. No one would have thought that you would change so much in the past six months."

Lin Weimin took a sip of white wine and said, "Yeah, I didn't expect it myself. It was all fate."

Qu Xiaowei shook his head. "How can there be so many coincidences? Your talent is recognized by everyone, and you have a famous teacher to guide you. Your future achievements will definitely be great."

Lin Weimin glanced at him sideways, "Don't you have something to ask me, kid?"

"Get lost!"

Qu Xiaowei cursed, and Lin Weimin finally felt relieved.

The two took a sip of wine, and Qu Xiaowei glanced at the magazine on the table. "Now that the album has been released, the classmates should be relieved. Everyone should thank you very much."
