40. Chapter 40: Wild Rabbit

Chapter 40 Wild Rabbit

I got a lot of walnuts yesterday, two big sacks.

The things are still there, but this place is quite secluded so no one has been here before.

While Heidan was collecting firewood, Song Wei started looking for mushrooms around.

There were a lot of mushrooms. She could see a lot of them just by walking a few steps. It was so satisfying to pick them up.

There are so many supplies in this mountain. Song Wei was smiling happily. Picking mushrooms gave her the feeling of picking up money.

"There's a hole here, could it be a rabbit hole?"

She stopped picking up the mushrooms and lay down at the entrance of the cave to observe.

There was feces similar to sheep dung balls and some gray hair around.

That’s right, the rabbit hole.

Her eyes suddenly lit up, and after looking around, she found two more cave entrances.

A cunning rabbit has three burrows. Song Wei blocked the other two holes and then started to dig out the rabbit.

She took a stick and started prying the hole, and soon the rabbit hole collapsed.

Heidan, who was picking firewood nearby, was always keeping an eye on Song Wei's movements, fearing that he would get lost.

Of course, he soon discovered Song Wei's movements.

He ran over on his short legs and was about to ask Sister Song what she was doing when he saw her arm sticking out of the hole, holding a fat rabbit's hind leg in her hand.

"rabbit!"

Heidan's voice was filled with surprise and excitement.

Song Wei threw the squeaking and kicking rabbit to Heidan.

"Grab them by their ears."

This rabbit weighed at least two kilograms. Heidan held on to the big rabbit's ears tightly, and he almost lost his hold on it because it was struggling.

Song Wei lay on the ground and put his arm into the hole again, then continued to take out a big rabbit.

Heidan opened his mouth so wide that he could hardly close it.

"Go get the rope."

Song Wei blocked the entrance of the hole and took the rabbit from Heidan's hand.

Heidan quickly went to get the rope, then watched her tie up the two rabbit legs and throw them aside.

Then he reached into the hole again.

Heidan's eyes were so bright with excitement that he squatted beside her, clenched his hands and watched eagerly.

After Song Wei dragged out another rabbit, he screamed with excitement.

"Another one, Sister Song already has three rabbits!"

Song Wei tied the rabbit's legs skillfully and continued to catch it.

This time, before she could even put her hand into the hole, a rabbit ran out in panic.

She grabbed the rabbit by the ears and lifted it up.

"Four, four!"

Heidan's eyes were wide open, and his tone was filled with excitement and disbelief.

What luck I have today, I actually caught four rabbits.

“It seems there is more.”

Song Wei lay down at the damaged entrance and took a look, then reached out and finally caught six little rabbits from it.

Heidan: “!!!”

So… so many! After making sure there was nothing left, Song Wei clapped her hands and stood up.

Looking at the four big ones and six small ones on the ground, he smiled with great satisfaction.

Heidan also stared at the rabbits and smiled happily.

"Let's kill one and eat it first."

I ate a few sweet potatoes for lunch today. I was craving for meat and didn't expect it to be delivered to my door.

They found a place with water, and Song Wei killed a rabbit quickly and efficiently.

Heidan was busy making a fire nearby, and from time to time he glanced at the other rabbits as if he was afraid that they would run away.

Finally, the big and the small both stared at the rabbit meat roasting on the fire.

"Sister Song, you are so lucky. It's amazing that you caught so many rabbits."

Everyone in the brigade knew that there were pheasants and rabbits in the mountains, and they had even seen them.

But these things run so fast that it is difficult to catch them even if you find them.

If a villager could catch a pheasant or a rabbit, he would be envied by others.

Now his sister Song caught so many of them at once.

Song Wei: "Keep a low profile. When you go back, hide the rabbit in the backpack so no one will find it."

There is no mistake in the poem, post, content, and read the book on 6, 9, and bar!

Heidan nodded very sensibly.

Although he is young, he has experienced a lot.

Song Wei didn't need to tell him that there were good things to hide. In the past, whenever he found delicious wild fruits in the mountains, he would either eat them as quickly as possible or hide them in a secret place. If he brought them back and was discovered by other members of the Lin family, they would be snatched away.

This is meat. If other people in the village find out, they won’t snatch it away, but they will definitely say bad things about Sister Song.

Song Wei pointed at the little rabbits and said, "I'll give these to you when we get back. When they grow up, three will be yours and three will be mine."

Heidan looked at her in surprise: "Are you really letting me raise them? I don't want these to belong to Sister Song. I am willing to raise them."

Song Wei insisted: "We'll each take half. When your three kids grow up, it's up to you whether to eat them or sell them for money."

Heidan argued for a few words, but Song Wei said it was decided and would not be changed.

Finally, he stopped arguing and secretly decided to raise the six rabbits well.

At this moment, he himself probably didn't know how happy his smile was.

The rabbit meat was cooked, but Heidan didn't eat much, and the rest went into Song Wei's stomach.

After eating and drinking, she continued to pick mushrooms. Heidan’s firewood was almost gone.

They also found another exit, which led to the Ping'an Brigade.

So when it got dark, Song Wei gave the mushrooms to Heidan to carry on his back, put the rabbits in his own larger backpack, placed two large bags of walnuts horizontally on top, and left with Heidan.

Thinking about food for the rabbits, Heidan picked up a lot of grass leaves on the way down the mountain.

Song Wei was helping to carry the firewood from behind with her hands. Heidan felt that although he was carrying something, it was light. He couldn't help but looking back frequently.

"Sister Song, I can do it myself. Please let go and let me carry you."

Song Wei followed him slowly but didn't let go: "Just go."

When we were going down the mountain, we met some villagers. We simply said hello and left.

The aunts who went up the mountain to pick wild vegetables and mushrooms sighed as they watched the two people leave.

"Heidan is really unfortunate. When he was in the Lin family, he was treated like an ox and now he has to work for Song Zhiqing."

Almost everyone in the Ping An Brigade knew about the incident that happened in the Lin family today.

The gossiping abilities of the aunties and ladies in this village are not to be underestimated.

"I think it's much better for Heidan to stay with Song Zhiqing than to stay with the Lin family. At least he has clean clothes to wear now, and Song Zhiqing accompanies him when he goes out to collect firewood. It's better to have a companion than to wander around in the mountains alone and no one will know if something happens to him."

"Humph, you think the educated youth are all good people, who knows how they will order Heidan to do the work. Such a small person has to carry so much firewood, Song Zhiqing is really cruel."

The person who spoke was a young girl, and she felt a little jealous when she saw Song Wei leaving.

"You're making it sound like Heidan didn't have to carry so much firewood before. Why haven't I heard you speak up for Heidan before? Song Zhiqing was very kind by not asking Heidan to return the 130-odd yuan. That was a watch."

The girl snorted coldly: "You have all been deceived by Song Wei. I don't believe she has good intentions."

After saying that, he picked up the basket and left.
