Fang Yan felt that she had been having a bit of bad luck these past two days.
Otherwise, how could I have run into Zhang Laowu two days in a row?
Although Gouzi Village is not large, she and Zhang Laowu do not live in the same alley, and they have no good relationship, so how could they meet so frequently?
Zhang Laowu, who had secretly sent Fang Yaojin out of the village, also did not expect that as soon as he turned around and entered the village, he would encounter Fang Yan and her son.
He now hates Fang Yan to the core and doesn't want to see her even once more.
He intended to walk right past her, but as he walked, he suddenly remembered that their first plan had been ruined because of this bitch.
It doesn't matter if it dies prematurely; what matters is that Fang Yaojin didn't do anything, yet he still swallowed ten yuan of his money.
Suddenly, Zhang Laowu pinned the debt of ten yuan that Fang Yaojin had swallowed on Fang Yan's head.
He had already walked several steps away, but then he stopped, turned around, and glared at Fang Yan with a sinister look.
Qibei had always been very hostile towards Zhang Laowu, and every time she saw him, she would involuntarily assume a posture ready to attack at any moment.
As soon as he stopped, turned around, and glared, Qibei immediately arched its back even more, like a fully drawn bow. At his command, it would pounce on Zhang Laowu.
Especially when it discovered that Zhang Laowu's sinister gaze was actually glaring at Fang Yan, Qibei bared its teeth and growled softly, as if warning Zhang Laowu.
Zhang Laowu's eyes, which were as cold and sinister as those of a venomous snake, stared intently at Fang Yan for about a minute or two before slowly lowering and landing on Qi Bei.
Seeing how loyal Qibei was to its owner, he, who had never been interested in keeping dogs, thought for the first time that this animal was not bad.
Now, he was more determined to bring Qibei home after selling Fang Yanfa to his beloved son, Zhang Baocai.
Hopefully, Qibei will protect his precious son in the same way he protected this little bastard.
Little Fish was terrified of Zhang Laowu, especially when Zhang Laowu's sinister gaze shot towards them; the little guy was so scared that he hid behind Fang Yan.
Fang Yan protected Xiao Yuzai with one hand and carried a large iron bucket with the other, her eyes fixed on Zhang Laowu without blinking.
She was thinking to herself that if Zhang Laowu was so heartless as to dare to hit her here, she would first smash a big iron bucket over his head and let Qibei bite him.
She had thought things through carefully and believed there was a high probability that a conflict would break out.
As a result, after giving a heavy "humph," Zhang Laowu turned around and walked towards the Zhang family's residence.
Fang Yan: ? ? ?
Is this old man out of his mind?
"Why are you so late today?" Before she even reached her doorstep, she saw Aunt De standing outside, peering at her.
"Don't even mention it, I ran into Zhang Laowu again. It took a few minutes. Did I make you and Uncle worry again?" Fang Yan said, feeling very embarrassed.
Ever since they learned that Zhang Laowu might target her and Xiaoyuzai, Zhang Zongde and Aunt De have been very concerned about the mother and son.
Especially Aunt De, every day before Fang Yan went to the county town to sell braised food, she would ask her if she needed to do anything else after she finished selling her things, and roughly when she would be back.
If Fang Yan hadn't returned by the appointed time, she would wait outside.
"How did we run into him again?" Aunt De's face tightened. As Fang Yan opened the door, she helped her carry the large iron bucket into the yard, lowering her voice, "He wouldn't have been waiting for you on purpose, would he?"
“It shouldn’t be,” Fang Yan said fairly, recalling the scene when she met Zhang Laowu. “It must have been an accidental encounter. He just glared at me for a minute or two, and then left without saying a word.”
"Is this guy out of his mind?" Aunt De cursed through gritted teeth, imagining the scene. She put the large iron bucket down and then said to Fang Yan, "I have to go back and talk to your uncle about this."
Aunt De left in a hurry again.
Fang Yan looked at the old woman's agile back and felt her heart was full of gratitude.
"Little Fish and Qibei are playing in the main room. Mom is going to the kitchen to cook. Don't run outside, understand?" Fang Yan picked a watermelon from the vegetable garden, plucked a handful of tender cabbage seedlings, and was about to get up when she dug up two potatoes from the ground. She then came back and instructed the naughty child and the furry child.
The little fish pressed on the clam, as if scratching its itch, having a great time, and then answered, "Mommy, we know."
Fang Yan then felt relieved and went to the kitchen to prepare lunch, occasionally entering and leaving the kitchen space.
Lunch was simple: a soup of fresh fish meatballs and watermelon, a stir-fried pork belly and potato stew, and a stir-fried cabbage sprout.
The fish today was said to have been caught by releasing water from the reservoir, and it looked exceptionally fresh. Despite the fish weighing five pounds, Fang Yan still bought it.
Scrape the fish meat off the bone, mince it, mix it with water infused with scallions, ginger, and garlic until it becomes sticky, then put it in a pot of cold water to make fresh fish meatballs.
When the fish balls are almost cooked, add the peeled and diced loofah and cook for about three minutes. The fresh and sweet fish ball and loofah soup is ready.
The bright green loofah, paired with white fish balls and sprinkled with a few red goji berries for color, looks so appealing that it would cost at least three figures in a five-star hotel.
Stir-fried pork belly and potato slices in a dry pan – this dish isn't difficult, but it really tests your knife skills.
Because no water is added during the entire dry-frying process, the ingredients must be sliced very thinly to ensure they are cooked through.
The pork belly that had been slightly frozen in the refrigerator in the kitchen was very easy to slice, and I could slice it as thinly as I wanted.
