Chapter 6 Staring at each other

Seeing her child's helpless and distressed state, Fang Yan's heart ached terribly.

Hearing the child crying, Zhang Jizhou rushed over and, without saying a word, took the child in his arms. "Don't cry. Your mother said she won't hit you anymore."

Just as Fang Yanyan said when she accused him in the hospital, Zhang Jizhou had never taken care of the child for a single day, had no idea how to take care of a child, and was even less capable of coaxing a child.

Upon hearing the unfamiliar voice, the baby suddenly opened his eyes, looked at Zhang Jizhou, and then cried even harder, stretching out his little arms to Fang Yan as he cried, "Mommy, hug me."

When Zhang Jizhou last came back, the baby was only one year old.

At that time, children don't have much memory.

It's been over a year since they last met, how could the child possibly remember his father?

It's no wonder he was scared when he suddenly found himself being hugged by a fierce-looking stranger.

In this situation, he subconsciously still wanted to find someone he was familiar with.

Although his mother would hit him, at home, only his mother would hug him and feed him.

Today, it's also because his mother repeatedly told him that he shouldn't eat that red fruit.

Because that fruit was meant for my uncle.

But he was so hungry that he secretly took a bite, which his grandmother saw.

Then Grandma scolded and beat Mom. When Mom came back, she was very angry, so she hit him.

Seeing the child stretch out his little arm towards her, Fang Yan quickly hugged him again, "Don't be afraid, don't be afraid, this is Daddy, don't you remember, baby?"

Nestled in Fang Yan's arms, the baby hugged her neck and looked timidly at Zhang Jizhou. Suddenly, the baby turned its head and looked at Fang Yan again, saying, "Mommy, I'll be a good boy from now on. Please don't hit me anymore, okay?"

My goodness, how could she bear to hit this child who is like a little angel?

Fang Yan earnestly promised her child, "Mommy promises that I will never hit you again. If I can't keep my promise, then let the big tiger 'roar' and eat Mommy up in one bite, okay?"

She meant to emphasize the determination of her promise when she said those last two sentences, but unexpectedly, it frightened the child, who hugged her even tighter and screamed, "Don't eat it! Big Tiger, don't eat Mommy! Kill Big Tiger!"

Fang Yan felt both sad and relieved.

It's heartbreaking that the child has gone through so much and suffered so much.

Fortunately, after suffering so much, the child is still willing to rely on and protect his mother.

"Okay, then Mom will try her best not to let the big tiger eat you," Fang Yan coaxed him with a light laugh. "Dad bought some soup noodles, shall we eat the noodles first?"

Upon hearing the word "Dad," the baby turned his head and glanced at Zhang Jizhou, but still didn't call him that.

She turned her little head back and said to Fang Yan, "Okay, Mom, let's eat noodles."

Zhang Jizhou had already set out the steamed buns and noodle soup on the table.

The shop owner was very thoughtful; he not only gave them chopsticks but also a soup spoon.

Sitting down at the table, Fang Yan held the child in her left arm, picked up a spoon with her right hand, scooped up some soup, blew on it, and let the child taste it first. "Is it good?"

At the Zhang family home, let alone noodle soup, they didn't even get a share of porridge.

The first time my child tasted soup made with lean meat and wheat flour, their eyes lit up. "Mommy, it's delicious! Mommy, I want some too!"

This child is so well-behaved that Fang Yan wants to spoil him.

The thought had barely crossed my mind when I heard a cold voice from across the room, “He should sit and eat by himself. Don’t always hold him.”

Upon hearing this, the baby gripped Fang Yan's clothes tightly and glared angrily at Zhang Jizhou, "You're not my dad!"

Da Niu and Er Niu's father would never be so fierce to them.

Seeing Zhang Jizhou's serious and aloof handsome face, now gloomy and sullen from being teased by his little brat, and afraid of scaring the child, Fang Yan couldn't help but want to laugh.

Fortunately, she managed to hold back and smooth things over for the father and son who were staring at each other, saying, "Baby isn't feeling well today, so Mommy is holding you and feeding you. When you feel better, you'll be able to eat by yourself, okay?"

Although, the child was so well-behaved and sensible that she wanted to spoil him rotten.

But that's just wishful thinking. Only someone who wants to spoil a child would indulge him without any limits.

Fang Yan secretly made up her mind to raise the child well for the original owner.

"Yes, Mom, I know," the baby replied, nodding his little head.

He's usually a very well-behaved eater, and today's noodle soup was a rare delicacy for him, so he ate even more obediently, without causing any trouble, and finished almost half a bowl.

He wanted to eat more, but Fang Yan wanted to soothe his stomach and didn't dare let him eat too much, so she coaxed him and didn't feed him anymore.

However, I did take out the spring water that he hadn't drunk in the afternoon and fed him several large gulps.

"Mommy, this sweet soup is delicious!" The baby is too young to describe it, but the sweet and refreshing spring water flowing down his throat and into his stomach feels so good. Anyway, he really likes drinking it.

“Then we’ll drink the rest when we’re ready for bed tonight,” Fang Yan tightened the bottle of spring water and put the baby down. “Now, go play by yourself for a bit, and Mommy and Daddy will eat, okay?”

"Okay." The baby was very curious about the guesthouse room and started playing by himself.

While Fang Yan was feeding the child, Zhang Jizhou didn't start eating first. Instead, he waited until Fang Yan also started eating before picking up the steamed bun and taking big bites.

His behavior surprised Fang Yan a little, and she was no longer so angry with him.

The two of them didn't exchange a single word, and the food was extremely monotonous. Eating it felt like a battle, and they finished in just three or four minutes.

The shop owner was very generous and cooked too much noodles in this bowl. Fang Yan ate two steamed buns and drank some noodle soup, but couldn't eat anything else.

Zhang Jizhou's stomach was like a bottomless pit. He ate six steamed buns and finished the rest of the bowl of noodles.

He voluntarily cleaned the table and even took the bowls to the toilet to wash them.

When he came out again, he took a special look at the child and found him lying on the bed, half asleep.

Zhang Jizhou put the bowl aside, walked up to Fang Yan, and asked directly, "Who are you?"

Fang Yan was stunned at first, then realized, "Holy crap! He knows!"

He actually figured out that he wasn't the original owner of this body!

However, when Fang Yan thought about his profession as an excellent soldier, she felt relieved. Her personality was completely different from the original owner's, so it was normal for him to find out.
