Chen Yifei nodded and took out a clove of garlic. "Look, this garlic still has mud on it."
"Okay, okay, give me a little bit of everything!" The woman ordered quite a lot of things.
She bought a lot of things, and when it came time to pay, Chen Yifei said, "Ninety-six cents, give me ninety-five cents. Just so you'll become familiar with me, and I'll buy you whatever you want in the future, sister."
"Good, good, you know how to handle people." The woman was pleased. She knew that even a penny was worth it; usually, haggling over a price was just a penny or two.
This young man is not bad.
Once one person bought some, many others naturally flocked to it, and the young man selling vegetables even gave everyone a discount.
They were all only a few cents cheaper. They were all very happy, buying quite a lot as if they had gotten a great deal.
The first truckload sold out in just half an hour, so I quickly went to the square to pick up more vegetables as agreed with the old man. I kept rushing back and forth like this.
It took about two hours. Chen Yifei's car sold out.
There were some vegetable leaves left, many of them blemished, which I planned to keep for myself when I got home.
Unexpectedly, the last bag of vegetables I packed was bought by an old lady who said happily, "I've heard that your vegetables are good, so I came too."
"These are the bad ones. I won't charge you more. Just give me whatever you think is appropriate." Chen Yifei was modest and gentle, always polite to everyone.
You have to understand, back then, sales clerks, those in supply and marketing cooperatives, and even ticket sellers at train stations—weren't they all arrogant and self-important? They were all considered to have legitimate jobs.
Sometimes, going to the supply and marketing cooperative can leave you feeling incredibly angry!
This young man is really good; he provided the emotional value of grocery shopping. These are all lessons learned for Chen Yifei.
It's as easy as sprinkling water.
