Chapter 235 isn't so bad.

Lei Ming drove very fast. With a throttle, the jeep roared into the military hospital like a wild beast breaking free of its restraints.

Before the car had even come to a complete stop, the passenger door was flung open, and the young woman jumped out. Without a second thought, she shouted at the brightly lit emergency room doors, her voice sharp and urgent:

"Doctor! Quick! Heart attack! An elderly person! They're dying!"

She shouted as she ran inside with the rushing medical staff, her words coming out at a rapid pace like a machine gun: "Male, around seventy years old..."

She finished her report in one go, clearly and logically.

The dim light from the corridor lamp shone on her wet, round face, which was still covered in mud, but her focused expression and crisp words inexplicably gave off a reassuring power.

Lei Ming wanted to help, but found himself completely helpless and could only follow the girl around dumbly.

The elderly man was quickly taken to the emergency room.

"Quick! Bring that defibrillator over here!"

A doctor turned around and shouted urgently. Seeing that everyone else was busy, the girl quickly tried to push the machine, but the machine was stuck or something else was wrong and she couldn't move it no matter what she did.

Lei Ming rushed forward to help, using all his strength to push hard.

The wheel rolled too fast and too sharply, and the direction was not controlled properly. With a "bang," the heavy metal base ran over the girl's foot hard.

"Hiss—Aow!"

The girl gasped in pain, jumped, grimaced, and tears welled up in her eyes instantly.

Lei Ming was terrified, his face turning pale: "I-I'm sorry! I-I didn't mean to!"

At that moment, the nurses inside took the defibrillator away.

He watched the girl clutching her foot, gasping for breath in pain, and felt both heartache and guilt.

"Are you hurt? Let me see! I'll take you to get it treated!"

The door to the emergency room has been closed; there's nothing for them to do outside for now.

The emergency room nurses were so busy they didn't even look up.

"Wait a moment, I'll apply the medicine for you as soon as I finish what I'm doing."

"I'm fine, nurse, you can go ahead with your work!"

The girl gasped in pain and waved her hand.

Lei Ming looked at her red and swollen instep, and was as anxious as an ant on a hot pan:

"No...no, that won't do! How about...how about I put some medicine on it for you first? Is that alright?"

The girl glanced at him, her round face full of disdain:

"You? Are you even capable? You're so reckless when you do things, don't make things worse!"

Lei Ming blushed even more after she said that, rubbing his hands together and speaking in a voice so low it was like a mosquito's buzz:

"I...I'll try? I promise I'll be gentle!"

Seeing his nervous yet earnestly awkward manner, Yuan Xiaoyuan pouted and stretched out her foot in an annoyed tone:

"...Be gentle!"

Lei Ming felt as if he had been granted a pardon. He quickly moved a small stool to sit down and carefully lifted Yuan Xiaoyuan's ankle.

The instep was white and tender, but now it was red and swollen, and covered in mud.

He picked up a cotton swab, dipped it in iodine, held his breath, and gently cleaned the mud and the edges of the wound, bit by bit.

While wiping, he kept muttering to himself:

"I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry... I really didn't mean to... I was just too hasty... Does it hurt? I'll be gentler..."

His rambling and cautious manner actually calmed the girl down a bit.

She looked at his drooping, wet head, his thick eyelashes still trembling slightly with nervousness, and suddenly remembered the misunderstanding at the forest farm, and her anger rose again.

"Not on purpose?"

She snorted and deliberately showed him the scrape on her elbow from where she'd been in the mud puddle.

"And what about this? If you hadn't suddenly rushed up and stopped me, would I have fallen like this? I almost couldn't wait any longer! You look so tall and strong, how can you act so recklessly? Impulsive! Childish!"

Lei Ming was so scolded by her that he couldn't lift his head, and the tips of his ears turned bright red.

He stopped applying the medicine, looked up, and his eyes were unusually sincere:

"Yes! You're right! I... I did act impulsively, wasn't mature enough, and was too immature. I'll definitely change in the future! Really! I promise!"

Unexpectedly, his earnest apology and profound "self-criticism" amused the girl.

With a soft "pfft," she couldn't help but laugh, her round eyes curving into crescent moons.

Lei Ming was taken aback by her laughter, a little confused: "What...what are you laughing at?"

"I'm just laughing at your stupidity!"

The girl suppressed a laugh, "Actually... now that I think about it, there's nothing wrong with what you're doing, is there?"

"Huh?" Lei Ming was even more confused.

"Think about it,"

The girl wiggled her uninjured foot.

"If the person who banged on the door was a real jerk, wouldn't you have rushed to protect the old man immediately? How heroic! You smashed the door open in a flash! Just like in the movies!"

As she spoke, her eyes sparkled as she looked at Lei Ming, "Hey, by the way, did you hurt your arm?"

Her sudden concern and affirmation were like a warm current that rushed into Lei Ming's heart.

He felt his face flush even hotter, and quickly lowered his head, not daring to look into her eyes, his voice muffled:

"No...no injury."

The girl swung her toes and asked, "My name is Yuan Xiaoyuan, what's your name?"

Lei Ming stared at the feet dangling in front of him, not reacting for a moment. It wasn't until the girl kicked him that he spoke.

"oh oh!"

He quickly looked up and spoke rapidly, as if answering a superior's question.

"My name is Lei Ming! Lei as in thunderstorm, Ming as in booming! I work as a railway police officer! I drive on the railway line! I'm twenty years old this year! I graduated from the police class of S City Railway Transportation Technical School! I have parents, two older brothers and one older sister, I'm the youngest, I'm 182cm tall, and my weight is..."
