As soon as Officer Huang finished speaking, the entire investigation area fell silent, and everyone turned their attention to him.
Even Captain Li, who had previously ignored him, turned his head slightly, staring intently at him, and said in a deep voice.
"Oh, how so?"
As the head of the public security brigade, Captain Li is usually busy with official duties and rarely pays attention to such trivial cases. It just so happens that he encountered one today.
When Captain Li stared at him, Officer Huang felt his heart clench, and a rush of blood to his head.
Here comes the opportunity to become a full-time employee!
He straightened his back instantly, his Adam's apple bobbed twice, and he couldn't wait to speak.
"I think it's impossible for that older woman to deliberately cut such a long gash on her daughter's arm just to frame her, especially since the girl is a dancer!"
When he got excited, he strode forward, almost touching Zhou Qiqi's face, his eyes filled with an aggressive aura, and his tone was forceful.
"Unless this woman can actually produce evidence to prove that she didn't sell these clothes!"
"Otherwise, we must take her into the interrogation room and interrogate her thoroughly!"
"Good! Good! Good!"
Captain Li said "good" three times, but his tone revealed no emotion.
Officer Huang was overjoyed, his lips curled up uncontrollably, and he held his head high, eagerly anticipating his superior's praise.
But the next second, a police cap slammed into his face.
"Is this how you handle cases? Are you letting the public prove their innocence themselves? And if they can't prove it, you arrest them?"
Captain Li's neck veins bulged, his eyes widened in anger, and his voice was as cold as ice.
"I'm asking you, what is Article 35 of the Criminal Procedure Law? Do you remember it?"
"I remember, I remember..."
Officer Huang was caught off guard by the blow, staggered back half a step, his cheek instantly swollen and red, and his voice trembled as he turned away.
"All cases must be judged based on evidence and thorough investigation; confessions should not be readily accepted..."
His voice grew softer and softer, losing all its strength.
Captain Li stared down at him, his eyes filled with disappointment and anger.
"So, is there any evidence now? Have you investigated or researched it?"
"This is just a minor injury, at most a public order case, maybe not even a formal public order case, at most a dispute. You arrest people so easily, treating everyone like criminal suspects?"
"Is this how a police officer should act? Do you really think you're someone important? No wonder everyone outside is afraid to deal with us police officers these days, it's because there are too many scoundrels like you!"
He abruptly shook his hand, his tone icy.
"I think you shouldn't stay in the case-handling area anymore. I'll transfer you to another place later."
This sudden punishment struck Officer Huang like a thunderbolt, leaving him stunned on the spot.
He opened his mouth, wanting to argue, but saw Captain Li roll his eyes in disgust and roar, "Get out! Don't get in my way!"
After reprimanding Officer Huang, Captain Li's face remained ashen as he turned to look at Officer Tan.
"Old Tan, what do you think we should do about this?"
Officer Tan stroked his chin, pondered for a moment, and then spoke.
"Since there is no evidence to prove that the clothes were bought from Comrade Zhou's stall, we should simply take a statement, leave an address and phone number, and let him go back to do business as usual."
As for what kind of follow-up investigations they should conduct, that's their job as police officers.
Captain Li nodded slightly: "Let's do it that way."
He then turned to Zhou Qiqi, his tone stiff but with a touch of seriousness.
"Miss, I'm sorry to have startled you. Please cooperate by giving a statement and answering a few questions. Leave your address and phone number, as we may need your assistance in further investigations."
Zhou Qiqi was somewhat taken aback.
After hearing what Officer Huang said, she thought she was going to suffer a minor setback today and was wondering what to do. Unexpectedly, things took a turn for the better without her intervention.
Thankfully, we met Captain Li.
She took a deep breath and bowed to the two officers to express her gratitude.
"Captain Li, Officer Tan, thank you for handling this matter fairly."
She changed the subject abruptly, a confident smile blooming in her eyes.
"However, there's no need for that. I have a way to prove right now that this garment was definitely not bought from my stall!"
"Oh? Now? What method?"
Captain Li raised an eyebrow, his gaze instantly sharpening.
Zhou Qiqi calmly picked up a piece of clothing, her fingertips tracing the hidden edging of the hem, and held the fabric up to the light.
"On every piece of clothing I make, I embroider the character '柒' in a hidden place, which is my own exclusive trademark."
Her voice was calm and measured, yet it carried a convincing power.
Captain Li and Officer Tan exchanged a glance, then each picked up the clothes to examine them.
Sure enough, the character "柒" was faintly visible among the folds of the fabric.
What's even more amazing is that both sides of the fabric have the character "柒" on them, and the colors and fonts on the front and back are completely different. The stitching is as delicate as flowing clouds!
"Excellent craftsmanship!"
Officer Tan couldn't help but admire him.
Captain Li, however, was more focused on the details and frowned as he asked, "Comrade, how did you do that?"
Zhou Qiqi tilted her head and smiled, her eyebrows curving into crescents.
"This is a traditional Suzhou embroidery technique, double-sided embroidery with different colored dark threads. It's hard to explain in a few words, and even if I did, you wouldn't be able to learn it. Not only you, I dare say, in the entire G city, I'm the only one who knows it!"
She's understated it; in reality, there are very few people in the entire Chinese National Congress.
This double-sided, dark-line embroidery technique has quite a history.
It is an extremely rare technique in traditional Suzhou embroidery and is also an intangible cultural heritage.
