A beam of snow-white flashlight suddenly appeared in the darkness, sweeping down from the top of the cliff and illuminating Zhou Qiqi's tear-streaked face!
A voice she knew all too well clearly entered her ears.
"Qiqi!!! Hang in there!! I'm coming!!"
In the blurry vision, a familiar, tall figure was climbing the steep cliff face at an almost frantic pace, disregarding everything else.
With a clear and firm goal, we headed towards her!
Zhou Qiqi felt a sudden surge of warmth in her heart.
She knew that whenever and wherever she needed this man, he would always descend like a god.
She knew; she had known all along, ever since they first met.
Through her blurry vision, that familiar, tall figure drew closer and closer, its outline becoming clearer and clearer.
She could even see the unprecedented panic and urgency on his face.
They're saved... She and Grandpa Liang are both saved...
Her tense nerves suddenly relaxed, and an irresistible weariness instantly swept over her.
She instinctively wanted to reach out and touch the figure she longed for, but her body felt as if all her strength had been drained, and she couldn't even move a finger.
Everything went black before her eyes, and she completely lost consciousness.
When I regained consciousness, a familiar smell of disinfectant entered my nasal cavity.
Zhou Qiqi opened her eyes with difficulty, and what came into view was the white ceiling and walls, and the conspicuous military insignia on the curtains by the bed.
It was at the military hospital.
She let out a long, silent sigh of relief.
I'm still alive...that's good.
With a slight turn of her stiff neck, she saw Zhu Yingying and Deng Cuixiang sitting head to head on a small stool by the hospital bed, dozing off.
Next to her, little Zhouzhou was curled up in a chair, her little head nodding as she slept soundly.
All three men looked visibly exhausted, clearly having been watching over her for a long time.
Looking at this scene, Zhou Qiqi's heart melted completely.
A surge of indescribable warmth and bittersweetness welled up in my heart, and my eyes became slightly hot.
She didn't know how long she had been unconscious, only that her head felt heavy and like it was filled with lead.
But I felt fine physically. Apart from a slight ache in the area around my waist and abdomen where the rope had been, I only had minor abrasions elsewhere and was otherwise unharmed.
Her first thought was to see Shen Huaichuan.
She carefully tried to sit up, but the slightest movement immediately woke Zhu Yingying, who was a light sleeper.
"Qiqi? You're awake!"
Zhu Yingying instantly snapped out of her daze and quickly leaned closer, "How are you feeling? Is there anything else that's bothering you?"
Deng Cuixiang and Zhouzhou woke up immediately and came over, looking concerned.
Zhou Qiqi shook her head, her voice still a little hoarse: "I'm fine."
Her gaze swept across the ward, but she didn't see the person she wanted to see, and a sudden emptiness filled her heart.
What about Huaichuan?
She couldn't help but ask, "Did he... go to the military dependents' quarters for some business?"
She remembered that the last person she saw before she fainted was him.
Deng Cuixiang pointed to the next room: "He's in the next ward."
The next ward? Zhou Qiqi's heart jumped!
She immediately recalled the perilous scene at the cliff edge; the situation had been so dire...
She jerked to her feet: "Was he injured while saving me? How serious is it?"
She got up too quickly, and a wave of dizziness hit her, causing her to sway.
Zhu Yingying quickly helped her up:
"Hey, slow down! The doctor said you've been in the cold on the mountain for hours and are exhausted. You need to rest and recover properly; don't get out of bed right away! Commander Shen is fine, just some minor injuries, really! Take care of yourself first, I'll go get the doctor to check on you..."
Zhou Qiqi wouldn't listen to anything else and insisted on going to see Shen Huaichuan.
Having survived this brush with death, she realized more clearly than ever before how much Shen Huaichuan meant to her.
Unable to dissuade her, the two men had no choice but to support her from both sides and slowly move her to the next ward.
In the next ward, Battalion Commander Jiang and Regiment Commander Wang were also dozing off against the wall, while Qin Lei was the only one who was holding on and guarding the bedside, his eyes as red as a rabbit's.
As soon as he saw Zhou Qiqi enter, he immediately stood up. "Sister-in-law, you're awake!"
"Where is your commander? How is he?"
Zhou Qiqi hurriedly looked toward the hospital bed.
Qin Lei was extremely tired, yawning and tears streaming down his face as he tried to explain:
"The commander is fine, he's just asleep. Why don't you wait a bit, sister-in-law..."
But with his tears and excuses, Zhou Qiqi could only see it as a cover-up!
She panicked even more and, disregarding everything else, opened her eyes, took a few steps forward, and pulled open the curtain beside the hospital bed.
On the hospital bed, Shen Huaichuan lay quietly, his head wrapped in thick white gauze that almost covered half of his face!
His eyes were closed, his face was pale, and his breathing was steady, but he did not react to her coming in!
"Huaichuan!"
Zhou Qiqi's heart was instantly pierced.
She rushed to the bedside, her trembling hands wanting to touch but not daring to touch the thick gauze, large tears falling onto Shen Huaichuan's cheeks.
"What happened to you? How did you get so badly injured? You absolutely can't get hurt, I still have so much to tell you!"
Perhaps her tears were too hot, or perhaps her calls were too urgent, but Shen Huaichuan's thick eyelashes trembled a few times, and he slowly opened his eyes.
His eyes were initially a little confused, but when he saw Zhou Qiqi crying her eyes out, he immediately became anxious and heartbroken.
