Chapter 100 Sour grapes

uncle

She pursed her lips and didn't make a sound, but her little mouth was so pouty it looked like she could hang a soy sauce bottle on it, clearly forming the shape of "uncle".

The afterglow of the setting sun spilled across the windowsill, gilding the little girl's eyelashes with a layer of gold.

Looking at the little girl in front of her, Zhou Qiqi felt a surge of tenderness in her heart. She gently stroked the little girl's pink lips with her fingertips and spoke in a very soft voice.

"You're talking about your uncle, right? You want to go to the hospital to see your uncle?"

Zhouzhou nodded vigorously, her little face flushed red.

Zhou Qiqi pinched her cheek, trying not to laugh and teasing her.

"I was planning to take you anyway, we'll go first thing tomorrow morning."

Even though Zhouzhou is a child, she understands that Zhou Qiqi is just teasing her. She bites her pink lips, looking like she wants to get angry but doesn't want to.

Seeing her looking at her sometimes aggrieved and sometimes conflicted expression, Zhou Qiqi felt both gratified and afraid that she would really get angry, so she quickly pulled her to her side, leaned close to her ear, and whispered a string of words.

As she spoke, the little girl's big eyes, which had initially looked a bit aggrieved, suddenly lit up.

"I thought the light was still on, but it turns out it's Zhouzhou's big eyes! So bright! So beautiful! Like a little fairy!"

The next morning, when Qin Lei saw Zhouzhou appear at the door of the ward, he immediately squatted down and rubbed her little head with his rough hands, praising her.

The little girl was shy and blushed as she hid behind Zhou Qiqi, only showing half of her face.

Zhou Qiqi took her hand and teased her with a smile.

"Qin Shitou, I thought you were just praising your sister-in-law as a fairy. Turns out you use the same words to praise everyone!"

Qin Lei's dark face flushed with embarrassment as he scratched the back of his head. "Not all of them are the same..."

"What?"

He always had a loud voice, but he spoke very softly. Zhou Qiqi didn't hear him clearly and asked again. Qin Lei didn't say anything and just stepped aside.

Shen Huaichuan, still lying in his hospital bed, put down the newspaper in his hand, glanced at Qin Lei, and asked.

"Why are you here so early today?"

Zhou Qiqi led Zhouzhou closer and gently pushed him forward.

"It's Zhouzhou! She got up very early this morning and has a gift for you!"

Zhouzhou blushed and opened her palm, revealing a pale purple grape lying in her delicate hand. Zhou Qiqi smiled and explained beside her.

"These grapes are from Aunt Deng's vines. They're so fresh and sweet! Zhouzhou and I just picked them yesterday, and we didn't want to eat them ourselves, so we saved them for you! You should try some!"

Shen Huaichuan's gaze swept over the grapes. The little girl's palms, which had been clenched for a long time, were already damp with a thin layer of sweat. The white frost on the surface of the grapes was wiped away, revealing the green flesh underneath.

He rolled his eyes, pretending not to see, and without hesitation picked up a grape, stuffed it directly into his mouth, and took a big bite.

"hiss......"

His brows furrowed suddenly, his cheeks twitched, and he deliberately grimaced, saying, "It's so sour it'll make your teeth fall out."

Zhou Qiqi had never seen him look so disheveled before, and she burst into laughter.

"Hahahaha...You got tricked, didn't you! Others say the grapes are sour because they can't have them, but you got the grapes and still say they're sour!"

Zhouzhou also looked up at the excitement with her little face upturned, but she didn't forget to quickly take out a few candies that she had prepared in advance from her pocket.

These were all things Zhou Qiqi had bought for Zhouzhou before—crispy candy, milk candy, fruit candy, all sorts of colorful and varied candies. Zhouzhou took one of each and let Shen Huaichuan choose whatever he wanted.

Shen Huaichuan doesn't usually like sweets, but seeing that the fruit candy was the smallest one, he reached out to grab it. However, before he could even touch it, Zhou Qiqi snatched it away first.

She didn't even look at him, but only whispered instructions to Zhouzhou.

"Your uncle doesn't like fruit candies, so don't give him fruit candies anymore, understand?"

Shen Huaichuan was full of questions, but had nowhere to ask, so he could only obediently put a milk candy in his mouth.

They arrived early today and hadn't eaten breakfast at home, so they brought it over to eat together.

Steamed egg custard, potato pancakes, and three bottles of goat milk.

The malted milk powder at home was finished last week, so Zhou Qiqi simply gave Sister Zhao ten yuan and asked her to order two more bottles for her.

One bottle for Zhouzhou, and the other for Shen Huaichuan. He needs protein right now, and goat milk is very nutritious, so it's perfect for him.

Soldiers eat quickly. Zhou Qiqi and Zhouzhou had only eaten half of their meal when Shen Huaichuan had already finished his, though he hadn't drunk the goat milk.

"Let's leave it for later and drink it."

He picked up the newspaper from the bedside table and said casually.

Zhou Qiqi put down the bowl and chopsticks in her hand, reached out and took the newspaper from his hand, raising her eyebrows slightly.

"Don't try to play tricks on me. I know you too well. You've been secretly giving all that goat milk to Stone after I left, haven't you?"

She found milk stains on Qin Shitou's clothes for two consecutive days.

Shen Huaichuan felt guilty for once and didn't dare to reply. Qin Shitou also shrank back, looking like he had done something wrong.

They really don't like drinking milk or goat milk.

Zhou Qiqi, who was in the right, didn't continue to criticize. Instead, she took out a jar of grape jam from her bag, scooped a few spoonfuls into a goat milk bottle, shook it, and handed it over: "Try it."

This is what she made last night. Although the grapes didn't taste great, they were full of anthocyanins and had a strong grape flavor. She added some rock sugar and apples and made them into jam. It's sweet and sour, and goes perfectly with goat milk.

The pale purple jam melted into the snow-white goat milk, creating pale purple ripples.

Shen Huaichuan took a sip, his brows relaxed slightly, and he tilted his head back and drank it all in one gulp.

After dinner, Zhou Qiqi told Shen Huaichuan about the art teacher.
