Around 8 a.m., the military dependents' compound was quiet.
The men in the family have just gone to work, and the kids are off to school with their backpacks. It's the most leisurely time of day for military wives.
No one expected that this tranquility would not last long, as something new happened in the military dependents' area square and turned the place upside down.
It was already a rare occurrence to see big-character posters put up in the military dependents' area, but to criticize them by name was even more unusual. The news spread like wildfire, from the east end of the family quarters to the west end of the small houses, and within half an hour, almost every household knew about it.
When Zhou Qiqi and her two companions arrived at the square, a large crowd had already gathered there, standing on tiptoe in groups of three or two, whispering among themselves.
A brand-new large red paper was pasted on the wall, with sharp, black ink writing that clearly listed Lin Yao's "crimes".
The notice, jointly issued by the two departments, was stamped with two bright red round seals: "perfunctory work attitude," "serious lack of responsibility," and "causing adverse effects."
This made the crowd even more lively.
"Oh dear, I went to her for a toothache the other day, and she had such a long face, only giving half-answers when I asked her questions. Now look what happened, she's got a reprimand!"
The military wife in the floral-patterned jacket spat on the ground, her voice so loud it seemed as if she wanted everyone to hear.
"That's exactly what I mean. She was busy organizing her things as soon as she arrived, then she was busy getting married, and even after the wedding, she couldn't settle down to see patients. She's always fussing over her few new clothes, what's with all the showing off..."
The woman with short, ear-length hair spat on the ground.
"This kind of person doesn't even deserve to be a doctor! He's completely disregarding the lives of our military families!"
......
As the buzzing of conversation continued, a commotion suddenly arose at the back of the crowd. Lin Yao and Xu Zao, their faces as white as paper, squeezed through the gaps in the crowd.
Just as everyone was discussing this, Lin Yao and Xu Zao appeared in the crowd with pale faces.
The two of them heard early in the morning that the results of the investigation would be posted, so they rushed here as soon as they put on their shoes, only to find that so many people had already gathered to watch the spectacle.
What alarmed Lin Yao the most was that the report was utterly ruthless!
Her face was burning hot, and she grabbed Xu Zao's arm, trying to slip away. But the military wife who had just complained of a toothache spotted her in the crowd and called out to her.
"Look! Isn't that Lin Yao?!"
As soon as she said that, all eyes swept over her, making Lin Yao feel extremely uncomfortable, her face burning hot, and she wished she could disappear into a crack in the ground.
The military wives deliberately moved closer to the center, surrounding the two women so they couldn't move an inch.
The two were both angry and anxious when they suddenly caught a glimpse of Zhou Qiqi, Zhu Yingying, and Deng Cuixiang talking not far away.
Compared to their disheveled appearance, the three people were quite relaxed, watching the commotion while cracking sunflower seeds in their hands, their smiles impossible to hide.
Hearing the unfiltered discussions around her and seeing the situation over there, Lin Yao's eyes instantly blazed with anger.
But she had no other choice but to dig her nails into her palms, leaving several red marks.
At this critical moment, a sharp wail suddenly rang out from outside the crowd, mixed with curses.
"Zhou Qiqi! You little bastard who doesn't keep her word! Get out here right now!"
This sound instantly attracted everyone's attention.
Qiu Chunfang stood there with her hands on her hips, followed by Li Hongjuan, whose face was gloomy and whose eyes were darting around.
Qiu Chunfang spotted Zhou Qiqi standing next to the big-character poster at a glance, and pounced on her as if she had seen an enemy, her finger almost poking Zhou Qiqi's nose.
"Zhou Qiqi, you heartless bastard! You promised not to tell anyone! How can you be so shameless!"
Qiu Chunfang was extremely excited, spitting as she spoke.
"I just went to Sister Wang's house to move some flowers, and she came at me with a dark face demanding an explanation! You must have been the one who leaked it! You took my money and then sold me out, you deserve to die a horrible death!"
The crowd erupted in a buzz.
It's about Sister-in-law Wang and money, and they're even talking about betrayal. What kind of show is this?
The gossipy gazes of the crowd instantly shifted from Lin Yao's big-character poster to Zhou Qiqi and Qiu Chunfang.
Zhou Qiqi frowned, and after listening to Qiu Chunfang's few words, she had a general idea of what was going on.
Her eyes sharpened, and she said in a deep voice.
"Qiu Chunfang, watch your mouth! Stop spouting nonsense! You know perfectly well what you've been up to, what does it have to do with me?"
Li Hongjuan then slowly walked over, unlike Qiu Chunfang who was making a fuss. She stood aside with her arms crossed, her face showing feigned regret and a hint of knowing mockery.
Her voice was neither too loud nor too soft, just enough for those around her to hear clearly.
"Tsk tsk, Zhou Qiqi, this is where you're wrong. If you take the money, you have to keep your word. You threatened Chunfang and took the money, and you agreed to it verbally, but then you went to Sister Wang's place to spread rumors about me and Chunfang."
"You're really being unfair. I know your husband is a regimental commander and a combat hero in our military region, but you can't abuse your power and cut off the livelihood of us ordinary military families!"
These words were sarcastic and subtly tried to smear Zhou Qiqi.
They portrayed Zhou Qiqi as the one who spread rumors about her and Qiu Chunfang's scheme against Wang's sister-in-law, while subtly elevating Shen Huaichuan's status and implying that Zhou Qiqi was abusing her power.
"You're talking nonsense!"
Zhu Yingying was so angry that her face turned red. Her leg hadn't fully recovered yet, and she was being supported by Deng Cuixiang as she pointed at Li Hongjuan and shouted.
"When did Qiqi ever take your money? You two were clearly conspiring to cheat Sister-in-law Wang! Qiqi only warned Qiu Chunfang a few times!"
