Chapter 36 His concern was merely an obligation

"Yingying~ Are you home?"

Zhou Qiqi's voice, carried by wind and rain, sounded particularly urgent in front of the tightly closed door.

Zhu Yingying opened the door and saw Zhou Qiqi holding an umbrella; she was soaked to the bone.

He quickly reached out and pulled her inside, then grabbed a towel from the shelf and handed it to her.

"Why did you come all this way in such heavy rain?"

Yingying frowned, her voice full of worry.

Qiqi took the towel, but didn't bother to wipe herself. She quickly scanned the room and asked.

Has your husband, Lao Wang, come back yet?

Yingying grabbed a towel and started drying Qiqi's hair while shaking her head.

"They're not here! They took their team to do disaster relief! Didn't we all notify them? Didn't you know?"

"What? I don't know! Nobody told me!"

Zhou Qiqi's eyes widened, water droplets still clinging to her eyelashes, her face filled with confusion and helplessness.

Yingying quickly pulled her to sit down on a chair and explained in detail.

"In the morning, the weather station reported that there was a possibility of heavy rain, so they were all on standby. Around 5 p.m., they sent someone to report that mudslides and landslides had occurred in several towns in the neighboring city, and they went to carry out rescue operations."

As she spoke, she sighed softly, her eyes filled with helplessness and heartache.

This wasn't the first time such a situation had occurred in the six months since she married Commander Wang, but each time, her heart still ached.

"I went to pick up Zhouzhou from school at that time, so I probably missed the messenger."

Qiqi breathed a sigh of relief, finally knowing where Shen Huaichuan had gone.

But then, her brows furrowed tightly, and her eyes were filled with worry.

"How many days will it take them to rescue him?"

"I don't know. It depends on the extent of the disaster. He might be back tomorrow, or he might have to stay for several days. If it's too serious, he'll have to help the villagers rebuild their houses, so he probably won't be back for ten days to half a month."

Zhu Yingying's words made Zhou Qiqi's heart, which had just been at ease, jump back into her throat.

"Won't that be dangerous? Will something bad happen?"

Qiqi unconsciously gripped the hem of her clothes, her fingertips turning slightly white.

Yingying patted her hand, her tone resolute.

"Don't overthink it. Commander Shen is so capable, a well-known 'living Yama' in the military region. He's top-notch in every aspect. What could possibly happen to him? Just stay home and wait patiently!"

"Okay, thanks, Yingying."

Qiqi forced a smile, her lips twitching weakly as she wiped her hair.

Seeing her like this, Yingying jokingly teased her.

"You really care about Commander Shen. You were so worried just now, weren't you? You like him that much?"

"What's so rare or rare about it? What are you talking about!"

Qiqi immediately stopped drying her hair, covered her burning ears, and said awkwardly.

"I'm his wife, so it's only natural for me to worry."

After all, she had promised to be an excellent wife and a qualified military spouse, and now she was just fulfilling her duty.

Zhouzhou was still home alone, and Qiqi didn't say anything more to Yingying before hurrying home.

I was thinking of doing some chores before the lights went out, but as soon as I got home, the house was plunged into darkness.

In this day and age, heavy rain often causes power outages.

Left with no other choice, she boiled some water, and after a quick wash with Zhouzhou, they went to bed.

Having been single for over twenty years in her previous life, she was already used to sleeping alone in a bed.

Two days ago, when Shen Huaichuan slept next to her, she felt uncomfortable all over. She was even careful when turning over and couldn't sleep well at night.

(Shen Huaichuan: Really? How come I didn't know that...)

Today, with no one around, I should feel quite relaxed.

But for some reason, she felt something was wrong when that familiar scent was gone.

Shen Huaichuan's cold yet gentle face kept appearing in her mind.

I wonder what he's doing right now?

Did you get a hot meal?

Can't you just take a proper rest?

She tossed and turned until late into the night before finally drifting off to sleep.

The rain lessened a bit the next day, but it still drizzled on and on.

She didn't have much of an appetite, so she made Zhouzhou an egg pancake and a cup of malted milk powder. After she finished eating, she took her to school.

I originally planned to have a glass of goat milk for breakfast when I got back, but then I realized—

Shen Huaichuan wasn't home, so no one went out early in the morning to fetch goat milk for her.

She's been drinking this every morning for the past few days, and she has no appetite for anything else.

You know, although she used to be very particular about food, she was never picky about food!

It's all Shen Huaichuan's fault, he's caused so much harm!

She took out the plaid fabric she had prepared to make pajamas for Shen Huaichuan and stabbed it hard with a needle!

His eyes flashed with a fierce light, then he turned menacing...

They sewed on a few chubby little white baby bottles.

Looking at his "masterpiece," he barely felt that he had gotten his revenge. He stitched up a few more stitches and became more and more satisfied with what he saw.

Just as I was feeling smug, someone knocked on the door.

When I opened the door, I saw Yingying standing outside, holding several English books, with a smile on her face.

"I was worried you'd be bored at home alone, so I came to keep you company."

Zhou Qiqi raised an eyebrow, her tone resolute.

"You're overthinking it. Do you think I, Zhou Qiqi, am the kind of person who would be completely lost and need someone to be with her if I were separated from my husband?"

Yingying glanced at the heavy dark circles under her eyes, and remembering how restless she looked last night, she suppressed a laugh and put her arm around her shoulder.

"Okay, okay, you're not! Just think of it as keeping me company, okay? I can't concentrate on translating without Lao Wang here."

"Alright."
