Upon hearing this voice, Zhou Qiqi's vision went black, and it felt as if a string in her head snapped!
She didn't care about anything else; her physical instincts overcame all fear, and she rushed towards the direction from which the sound came like a madwoman!
She used both hands and feet to push aside a clump of withered yellow bushes, and the sight before her made her blood run cold and her breathing stop!
He Wanrou's hair was disheveled, and her eyes were wild. She was no longer the gentle woman she usually was; she looked exactly like a desperado.
She held Zhouzhou's small body tightly with one arm, keeping the child firmly in front of her.
In her other hand, she was tightly gripping a gleaming fruit knife, its sharp tip pressed firmly against Zhouzhou's thin neck!
Zhouzhou's face turned red and purple from being squeezed so tightly, and her big eyes were filled with fear.
She opened her mouth as if desperately trying to scream, but no sound came out.
When Zhou Qiqi saw the gleaming knife pressed against the child's delicate neck, she was terrified and screamed:
"Let her go! He Wanrou, let her go right now!"
Her shout was followed by a flurry of footsteps, and Captain Li, along with several police officers, rushed over.
They formed a semi-circle around her, and shouted at her:
"Put down the knife!" "Let go of the child!"
But these shouts did not make He Wanrou put down the knife.
Instead, it was like a fire that completely ignited He Wanrou's nerves, which were on the verge of collapse!
Her eyes were wild, and she was in a state of extreme excitement and fear, on the verge of a breakdown.
His arm tightened suddenly, the knife tip instinctively pushed forward, and he screamed sharply:
"Don't come any closer! Get away from me! If you take another step, I'll kill her right now!"
The sharp blade instantly drew a thin line of blood on Zhouzhou's neck, and bright red blood immediately seeped out, which looked shocking against the child's pale skin!
When Zhou Qiqi saw the blood, her heart trembled with fear, and she almost collapsed to the ground. She quickly raised her hands, her voice trembling with tears, and retreated, crying out:
"No! Don't move! We won't go over there! We'll back up! Please! Don't hurt the child! Captain Li! Quick! Get everyone back up! Back up!"
Captain Li's heart was in his throat. He immediately raised his hand, gestured to the team members behind him, and gave a low command:
"Attention! Back off! Keep your distance! No one is to move without my order!"
Seeing that the encirclement loosened and everyone took a few steps back, He Wanrou's tense nerves relaxed slightly, but the arm holding Zhouzhou and the knife pressed against her neck did not loosen at all.
She was panting heavily, her gaze sweeping venomously over the police officers before finally fixing on Zhou Qiqi and Captain Li, and she hissed as she questioned them:
"Why? What right do you have to arrest me? What law have I broken?!"
Zhou Qiqi and Captain Li exchanged a quick glance, both hesitant about how to answer the question.
He Wanrou keenly observed this brief silence and eye contact.
Her gaze shifted between the two of them, then fixed on Zhou Qiqi, as if she had suddenly realized something. She glared at Zhou Qiqi and said venomously:
"I know! Zhou Qiqi, it was you! It must have been you behind this!"
She then suddenly turned to Captain Li and the others, brandishing the knife in her hand, the tip of the blade drawing a dangerous arc in the air, almost grazing Zhouzhou's cheek several times.
While waving, they also shouted:
"And you too! These police officers, weren't they hired by Zhou Qiqi?! What benefits did she give you to frame me?!"
"Do you know that I saved the lives of the Shen family elders twice? I am their great benefactor! If you dare to touch me, Uncle Shen and Aunt Qin will never let you get away with it!"
She shouted excitedly, trying to use past favors as a protective charm.
Qiqi watched the knife tip she was wielding, her heart pounding with fear, almost collapsing. She pleaded repeatedly:
"He Wanrou! Let's talk this out! Please don't move! Don't hurt the child! Hold the knife steady!"
Captain Li subtly took half a step forward, shielding the agitated Zhou Qiqi slightly behind him, and gently shook his head at her, signaling her to calm down.
Then he turned to He Wanrou, forced a smile, and said in a gentle tone:
"Comrade He Wanrou, calm down, don't get agitated. Look, have you misunderstood something? You're right, you really are Chief Shen's savior, we all know that. You've done so much for the Shen family and made contributions, we're too grateful to even think about arresting you for no reason, right?"
His seemingly agreeable words noticeably calmed He Wanrou's agitated emotions.
The madness in her eyes subsided slightly, replaced by a hint of doubt.
Captain Li pressed his advantage, continuing to gently and patiently guide the conversation:
“Look at you now, holding a knife to the child, how dangerous is that? If you accidentally slip and hurt Zhouzhou, the situation will completely change.”
"Put the knife down now, and I, on behalf of the Public Security Bureau, assure you that as long as you guarantee the child's safety, everything will be fine. We will absolutely not make things difficult for you. Calm down, put the knife down, and we can talk things over slowly, okay?"
As he spoke, he gestured with his eyes to his comrades around him to stay calm, while he subtly moved forward under the guise of speaking.
Zhou Qiqi felt extremely heartbroken, her eyes fixed on the knife in He Wanrou's hand and the bloodstains on Zhouzhou's neck.
She was so angry she wanted to kill He Wanrou, how could she possibly give her a kind look!
But she knew in her heart that Captain Li was using delaying tactics.
