Chapter 358 Forgetting is the Best Protection

"Besides frequently sending you things, my aunt keeps talking about you at home...and...recently she..."

As Lei Ming continued to ramble on about how Zhou Shuhua had been talking about her and how she had changed, Zhou Qiqi felt a tangled mess in her heart, feeling both suffocated and panicked.

He quickly interrupted, "Alright, stop talking... I'm a little cold, and it's getting late, you should all go back too."

Lei Ming knew that she was not at peace with herself, so he sighed inwardly and did not continue speaking.

"Alright, Sister Qiqi, Commander Shen, we'll head back now."

The night wind was indeed getting colder and colder, chilling people to the bone. If I stayed any longer, I would really get sick from the cold.

The two couples parted ways at the crossroads on the playground and went their separate ways home.

Zhou Qiqi and Shen Huaichuan spent quite a while outside, chatting and being affectionate. By the time they got home, it was already late at night.

Zhou Qiqi was still thinking about the pear soup, so she quickened her pace.

Unexpectedly, upon entering the main room, one is greeted by a sweet pear fragrance, and Qin Peilan is seen carrying a small pot out of the kitchen.

"Oh, you're finally back! You must be freezing! Perfect timing, the pear soup is ready, we've all had some, now it's just the two of you left, come on, each of you have a bowl to warm up!"

Qin Peilan was about to get a bowl when she spoke.

Zhou Qiqi felt a warmth in her heart and quickly waved her hand: "Mom, no need to bother! When I went out just now, I took a pear, and I ate it all by myself! Now my stomach is full and I can't eat anything else."

As she spoke, she took off her thick woolen scarf, and deliberately glanced at Shen Huaichuan beside her with a hint of reproach.

"It's all his fault! I offered him half, but he absolutely refused to eat it, as if there was poison in my pear! Mom, please give him more so he can drink it all!"

Upon hearing this, Qin Peilan was taken aback at first, then seemed to understand something, and couldn't help but chuckle, pointing at Zhou Qiqi with her finger:

"Oh, my silly girl! You're blaming Huaichuan? It's not that he doesn't want to eat; it's that he can't 'share the pear' with you! It's an old custom, for good luck and auspicious meaning! How could you not even think of that?"

Dividing the pear? Separating?

Zhou Qiqi blinked her eyes, and then it dawned on her!

She turned her head, looking at Shen Huaichuan in surprise, a smile involuntarily creeping onto her lips:

"Wow! I never would have guessed! Our Commander Shen, who's so decisive and efficient in leading troops into battle, actually believes in this? That's...unbelievable!"

Qin Peilan and Shen Zhenbang, who was sitting to the side reading a newspaper, exchanged a glance and couldn't help but laugh.

The elderly couple truly never expected that their son, known as the "King of Hell" in the army, would have such a thoughtful and romantic side when it came to his wife.

However, seeing how well the young couple loved each other, they felt sweeter than if they had drunk honey.

Qin Peilan smiled and took the scarf from Zhou Qiqi, carefully hung it up, and then advised:

"Qiqi, you don't have to eat any more pears if you're full, but you have to drink a bowl of this hot pear soup! It's freezing outside, so drink this to warm your stomach, otherwise you'll easily catch a cold!"

Zhou Qiqi nodded readily in agreement:

"Okay, Mom, you can scoop all the remaining pear flesh from the pot for Huaichuan. I'll just have a bowl of hot soup."

Qin Peilan quickly served two bowls of pear soup, but took the bowl with more ingredients that Shen Huaichuan had into Zhouzhou's room, so that he could drink it while watching the child draw.

Instead, he took Zhou Qiqi's bowl of bland soup to the doorway of the old couple's house and winked at them.

Zhou Qiqi immediately understood and went inside with the bowl.

Shen Zhenbang gently closed the door behind her.

Seeing that the door was closed, Qin Peilan quickly moved closer and asked in a low voice:

"How was it, Qiqi? Huaichuan looked quite calm when he came back, nothing seemed wrong. You must have talked things out with him and made him feel better, right?"

She was afraid that her son would be unhappy because the elderly couple had kept the truth about Zhouzhou's background a secret.

Zhou Qiqi blew on the steam rising from the bowl, took a small sip, and then smiled as she spoke:

"Mom, Huaichuan doesn't need me to coax him at all. As for Zhouzhou... he knows everything perfectly well, he's known about it for a long time!"

"What? You already knew?"

The elderly couple were both taken aback and asked in unison.

Zhou Qiqi then briefly explained how Shen Huaichuan observed and deduced the truth on his own.

After listening, Shen Zhenbang shook his head with admiration: "This kid... his observation skills are surprisingly sharp."

"Dad, Mom,"

Zhou Qiqi put down her bowl, her tone becoming more serious.

"You don't spend enough time with Huaichuan, so you don't know him well enough. He's thoughtful and considers things carefully. He's really outstanding."

Qin Peilan felt a pang of sadness; how could they not want to be closer to their son?

However, my son has been independent since he was a child, and then so many things happened, and our relationship gradually became distant.

Their son spends most of his time in the military, and when he comes back, he is always quiet and reserved, clearly not wanting to be with them. They don't want to force their son to stay with them.

Actually, if it weren't for Zhouzhou's situation, the elderly couple would probably have gone back to the nursing home long ago.

However, she kept these words to herself and instead asked:

"Let's not talk about that for now. So... have you two come to a decision about Zhouzhou's treatment? Are you still planning to continue?"

Zhou Qiqi shook her head firmly and relayed Shen Huaichuan's words to her parents-in-law exactly as they were said.

Hearing that the young couple shared the same sentiment, Qin Peilan finally felt relieved.

She let out a long sigh of relief and gently ran her hand along her chest.
