Just then, a clear voice came from the doorway: "Lin Yao! Stop!"
It's Zhou Qiqi back! Lin Yao jumped in fright and quickly turned around.
The young man took the opportunity to climb over and pick up the helmet, carefully patting the dirt off it.
Zhou Qiqi walked up to them in a few steps, her eyes sweeping over the two of them before staring intently at Lin Yao.
"What are you doing here? Are you bullying my worker?"
Lin Yao pointed to her shoes with her neck stiff.
"How did I bully him? He was the one who came up to me all dirty..."
Zhou Qiqi sneered.
"Coming right up to you? This is my yard, it's perfectly normal for him to work here. But you, barging in without saying hello, are you trying to steal something?"
"I stole something?"
Lin Yao raised her head and said, "Why would I come to your house to steal? As a medical student who graduated from university, why would I need to come here to steal?"
Zhou Qiqi scoffed.
"Oh? So that's how it's taught in universities—that people can just walk into other people's courtyards when the gates are open?"
Lin Yao's face turned red with anger. "You country bumpkin, you're so sharp-tongued! You've never been to school, what right do you have to talk about university!"
Zhou Qiqi, Qiu Chunfang, and Li Hongjuan had all argued, but none of them were as shameless as Lin Yao, who could stir up trouble even when she was being unreasonable.
But she was just as imposing, crossing her arms and looking Lin Yao up and down.
“I may be a country girl, but I’m upright and honest. It’s you, a city doctor, who can gossip about patients’ private matters so casually. How are you any different from those ignorant gossipy women in the countryside?! Is that what’s written in the doctor’s manual? Or is that what the provincial military hospital teaches?”
These words struck a nerve with Lin Yao, and her eyes darted away.
"Which ear did you hear me spread that rumor? Battalion Commander Zhao was inside, and there were other people outside too!"
Zhou Qiqi took a step forward, staring intently at her.
"Whether it was you or not, we both know the truth! Don't think you can get away with it just because you've done something wrong!"
