Chapter 40: First Visit to the City
Suddenly, she calmed down. There was absolutely no money at home to buy her materials and books.
and……
Ye Xiaomei thought for a while, then looked back:
"Huihui, I still plan to go into the city tomorrow and then talk about the future."
Liang Huihui was stunned, but fortunately she was a childhood friend of Ye Xiaomei and grew up together, so she knew her very well.
Her biggest dream is to go to school, but right now, that place has obviously been taken by a man named Ma Qijun:
"Okay, let's get back to the point. You're going to the city to look for Ma Qijun, right?"
"Yes." Ye Xiaomei nodded vigorously. She had already made up her mind. Without Ma Qijun, she would have no home. Without a home, she would never have the chance to study.
Seeing that she was so determined, Liang Huihui decided to go, so she didn't try to persuade her. She just thought that Ma Qijun had taken advantage of her:
"Then you're going alone?"
"Didn't you tell me how to get there? I can do it alone." Ye Xiaomei took out her shoulder bag from under the pillow again and took out her notebook:
"Look, from Qingyang County to Liu County, and then transfer from Liu County to Chaocheng. I have memorized it all. You won't get lost."
Liang Huihui looked at Ye Xiaomei for a few seconds. She was so silly. That was a woman's life, but she was still as innocent as before.
"Have you really thought it through? Haven't you been forced by your grandma?"
Ye Xiaomei shook her head: "Brother Ma is a good man. We will get married on August 8th."
Liang Huihui finally understood what was going on, and she was determined:
"If you leave tomorrow, I'll have my eldest brother drive you to the county in a tractor. It's such an early car, if you walk, you have to leave at three o'clock, right?"
As the door closed, Liang Huihui had already left when she said this: "Four o'clock, at the entrance of the village."
Liang Huihui and Xiaomei grew up together, but Xiaomei's thoughts are still very different from hers. At least she will not give up her whole life so easily.
To be honest, Xiao Mei's thinking is very similar to that of her mother's generation. She believes that whoever a woman marries is her lifelong love. However, Liang Huihui herself does not think so.
"Huihui, thank you." Ye Xiaomei called out from the window.
"No thanks. I can't help you much. I heard you were getting married, so I'll give you the gift money in advance because I have to go back to school on August 8th and may not be able to attend your wedding."
Ye Xiaomei heard the voice fading away, and saw the worn-out dictionary on the table, with a corner of a bill sticking out from the seam.
Ye Xiaomei quickly opened the dictionary on the desk, three pages for ten yuan each.
Ye Xiaomei's eyes suddenly became hot. Did Liang Huihui guess that she was in financial difficulty? She probably just coaxed her into reporting to school on August 8.
They were still young at that time. When Ye Xiaomei was bullied, Liang Huihui stood up. Several little boys were afraid of Liang Huihui because she was the daughter of the village chief.
Her father was not as patriarchal as her own family. On the contrary, Uncle Liang, the village chief, educated Liang Huihui very well. Not only did he hold her in the palm of his hand, but he also taught her not to be proud and that many of the food given out of charity was not hers.
Therefore, Liang Huihui has liked to fight for things that belong to her since she was a child. She has good grades and is particularly good at fighting. She often says: My dad said that birds also have to learn to fly and find food on their own.
Ye Xiaomei didn't know how many times she had envied her.
Ye Xiaomei went out before dawn in the morning and left a note for her mother at home.
Village chief Liang's son Liang Hui was waiting at the village entrance early.
Ye Xiaomei thanked him quickly and climbed into the carriage: "Brother Hui, thank you for your help."
"Xiao Mei, Hui Hui has told me everything, don't worry, you will definitely catch up."
The tractor bumped along the mountain road with a mixed sound of bangs, echoing throughout the valley of Tieqiao Mountain.
"If we gather together today, then we won't be able to go?" Ye Xiaomei felt uneasy.
"If you don't want to go, then don't go. You know Huihui's stubborn personality. It's not easy for my sister to ask a big brother like me, so I have to follow her request."
Liang Hui said with a smile, and he had to stretch his voice to otherwise it would be covered by the sound of the tractor.
An hour and a half later, we arrived at the county bus station.
Ye Xiaomei wandered around the station unfamiliarly, looking at the signs hanging on the windshields and the voices coming from the radio:
"The bus from Qingyang County to Liu County is about to depart, everyone get ready."
Ye Xiaomei's mind was shaken, and she quickly grabbed her bag and ran towards the car.
The people behind her squeezed Ye Xiaomei so hard that she couldn't even touch the ground. An old man in front of her suddenly turned around and stared at the soft flesh pressed against his back.
With an indescribable greed in her eyes, Ye Xiaomei stepped back hastily, with the people behind her pushing and shoving each other.
Ye Xiaomei was caught in the crowd and asked shyly, "What are you looking at?"
After these words were spoken, the master turned his head away embarrassedly.
The door of the minibus opened with a click, and in the midst of the rush of people, Ye Xiaomei found herself being squeezed directly into the carriage without even touching the ground.
Yes, I was squeezed right in.
Then there was a scramble for seats. Ye Xiaomei realized after getting on the bus that there were only seats in the back row, so she quickly rushed to grab one. After all, she would be sitting there for more than two hours.
Ye Xiaomei rushed to the back seat, sat down on the only empty seat, and finally breathed a sigh of relief.
Glancing sideways, she saw another person sitting in the same seat as her. The two looked at each other, both holding their buttocks halfway up.
"Sorry, I took it first. This is my wife's seat." The man said:
"This is the seat I reserved for my wife."
Ye Xiaomei awkwardly wanted to get up but didn't want to because the journey was too long.
"Xiao Min, there is a seat here, come over quickly." The man in his thirties waved towards the crowded carriage.
A woman holding a child squeezed over and said, "Please make way."
When Ye Xiaomei saw her holding the child, she stood up decisively.
The elder brother behind me said thank you.
The car started, the engine made an old-fashioned sound, and it officially started. Ye Xiaomei held the handrail a little nervously. After all, she was about to leave the county at this moment.
After standing for an hour, Ye Xiaomei felt her knees were sore.
"I'm so sorry, why don't you sit over there and take a rest."
It’s the elder brother just now.
Ye Xiaomei looked over subconsciously and saw that he had given up his seat, but Ye Xiaomei's eyes were on the child in his wife's arms.
Ye Xiaomei sat down quickly: "Your son has a fever."
The lady who was hiding her face covered her nose and said, "It has been going on and on."
"It's okay." Ye Xiaomei took out a needle bag while speaking, opened it, took out a diamond-shaped needle, grabbed the child's thumb, inserted a needle into the Shaoshang acupoint, squeezed it hard, and a drop of full blood fell.
"What are you doing?" The child's mother hugged her son and stood up.
Ye Xiaomei was startled: "It's nothing, this is a way to reduce fever. Your son is frightened. You see there is a vein between his eyebrows. His spleen and stomach are not in good condition. In fact, he doesn't have any serious illness."
"Why...why did you stab my son? I just wanted to take up an extra seat for my wife. How did I offend you?"
Ye Xiaomei's head buzzed. Is the outside world like this? Well, just like at home, there is no trust to speak of:
"Brother, I don't mean anything else. This will help relieve the fever."
Ye Xiaomei grabbed the pole and looked out the window, her heart in turmoil. She meant well, but why did she feel like she had offended someone?
After a long time, the child began to cry.
The mother comforted him kindly: "Don't worry, son. We will definitely cure your illness. Let's go to the Military General Hospital."
"Mom, I'm hungry."
"Hungry? Husband, the baby said he was hungry. Come on, take out the food you brought in your bag. Our son likes to eat eggs."
"Okay, okay!" The man quickly took something out of his bag. The layers of wrappings surrounding the eggs were finally turned out, and they were still steaming slightly when they were peeled open.
The man looked meaningfully at the girl with her back to him.
"White egg white and yellow yolk. Looks good, right?" The man handed the egg to his son.
There are always passengers waving to get on this kind of minibus on the road. Ye Xiaomei was a little worried that she would miss the bus to Liu County, so she didn't pay much attention to the child's movements.
It was not until two hours and twenty minutes that Ye Xiaomei began to squeeze towards the door in advance, for fear of being the last one to get off the bus and wasting time.
"Hubby, that girl's method seems to be effective. Look at our son." The child in the woman's arms did not cry or make a fuss. After eating the eggs, he began to tear the little robot in his hands apart.
The man looked back when he heard this.
Just then, the train arrived at the station, and Ye Xiaomei was the first one to get off the train among the crowd.
"Girl...wait."
