Xiao Zhang looked at the captain with gratitude. He hadn't realized the mistake earlier, but thankfully the captain had helped him out.
Otherwise, wouldn't we have missed the opportunity?
This way, they would have the opportunity to spend time alone together.
A light rain began to fall from the sky.
Lu Zhixia looked up and felt the raindrops hitting her face. She quickly told them...
"It's raining, let's hurry back to the car."
"This awful weather!" Zhou An'an muttered.
Then they ran together toward the parking lot and quickly got into the car.
Then the rain intensified, and a pattering sound came from above.
"It's hailing!" Xiao Zhang said.
"Luckily, I didn't ride my bicycle back," Lu Zhixia said thankfully.
Gu Lingxiao took out a handkerchief from his pocket and handed it to her to wipe her face.
Lu Zhixia looked at the handkerchief and realized it wasn't hers.
When it reached him, he took it and wiped his face. His clothes were a little wet, but luckily he was wearing two layers.
After using the handkerchief, I didn't know whether I should put it away or return it to him, just as he reached out his hand.
So she returned the handkerchief to him, and seeing Gu Lingxiao wipe his face with it, she casually put the handkerchief into her pocket.
That move looks so practiced.
Lu Zhixia: ...
Could it be that I'm mistaken, and that the handkerchief isn't hers?
Xiao Zhang drove quickly, and only when he reached the main road did he realize that he hadn't asked Zhou An'an for the address.
"Comrade Zhou, here is your home address."
Zhou An'an quickly said, "My home is in the building near the law enforcement team, by the big willow tree. You'll see it when you drive over there in a bit."
"Okay!" Xiao Zhang drove steadily, a little slower than usual, especially since it was raining quite heavily.
Soon they saw the big willow tree. The rain outside was still pouring down. If they went down there rashly, they would get soaked to the bone.
Lu Zhixia took an umbrella out of her bag. "Come on, I'll get off the bus and see you off."
"It's good that you brought an umbrella." Zhou An'an decided that she must bring an umbrella to work tomorrow, even if it doesn't rain.
Xiao Zhang snatched the umbrella from Lu Zhixia's hand.
As he spoke, Xiao Zhang opened the car door, "I'm going to see Comrade Zhou off; it's raining too hard outside."
Just as Lu Zhixia was about to retort, Zhou An'an also slipped out and met up with Xiao Zhang. The two of them shared an umbrella and walked towards the building.
"This kid learns pretty quickly," Gu Lingxiao said.
Lu Zhixia glanced at him and said, "If Xiao Zhang dares to treat An'an badly after winning her over, I'll teach him a lesson!"
"Hahahaha!" Gu Lingxiao burst out laughing.
Lu Zhixia felt that men were naturally gifted at pursuing women. It was obvious that Xiao Zhang was not providing enough cover with the umbrella, so he used most of the umbrella to shield Zhou An'an.
Soon, Xiao Zhang returned, her clothes mostly soaked. She got on the bus and handed the umbrella back to her.
The wet umbrella couldn't be put back in her bag, so Lu Zhixia had to hold it in her hand.
"Alright, the person has been delivered." Xiao Zhang finished speaking, started the car, and scratched his wet hair with his left hand.
"This damn weather, how come it started raining so suddenly?"
Looking at the torrential rain outside, Lu Zhixia thought to herself that the rain shouldn't be too heavy, as too much rain is not a good thing.
The car arrived at the tenement building very quickly.
The rain seems to have lessened a bit.
"I'll get off first," Gu Lingxiao said.
Lu Zhixia didn't refute him, but waited for him to come over and open the car door before getting out. The wind blew by and she felt a little cold.
"It looks like it's gotten even colder."
Gu Lingxiao took off his coat and draped it over Lu Zhixia's shoulders.
"Is this any better?"
"Thank you for the clothes." Lu Zhixia didn't argue with him, but instead wrapped the clothes around herself.
A thunderclap rang out, and everything around was illuminated by lightning.
With a whoosh, the rain intensified. Gu Lingxiao felt the umbrella couldn't hold up, so he reached out, put his arm around Lu Zhixia's shoulder, and tilted the umbrella towards her.
"Let's go! We need to hurry, the rain is getting heavier."
Lu Zhixia turned her head to look at the hand that was wrapped around her shoulder, and thinking that if they didn't hurry, they would both be soaked, so she didn't stop him.
The wind started to pick up, and they jogged into the building. Even with umbrellas for shelter, the wind was so strong that rain was blowing all over them.
Lu Zhixia felt completely chilled to the bone, her body was sticky, and her shoes were even worse, having been soaked in water to the point of being unbearable.
If you listen carefully, you can hear a squeaking sound when you walk; that's the sound made by the friction caused by water accumulating inside the shoes.
"This heavy rain isn't a good thing either."
"That's right. It's been raining for several days already, and the reservoir is already full. If it keeps raining like this, it will have to release water!"
"Is it that serious?" Lu Zhixia brushed a stray hair from her forehead with her hand.
Gu Lingxiao folded the umbrella, and instantly a pool of water appeared on the ground, all of it soaked with the umbrella's liquid.
"There's nothing we can do about it; we can only pray that this rain will pass soon."
The thunder and lightning were still raging outside. Lu Zhixia was worried that it would be dangerous for them to drive back like this, so she told him...
"Why don't you go pick up Xiao Zhang and wait until the thunder stops before you leave?"
Gu Lingxiao said without hesitation, "Okay, then you go home first, I'll go and call them over."
Lu Zhixia watched him walk out again with his umbrella. Just then, a flash of lightning streaked across the sky, and she watched his tall figure walk further and further away into the distance.
With him around, it seems like no problem is a problem at all.
She hurried upstairs; her clothes were so sticky that she needed to go back and change.
I finally got back to the door, unlocked it with my key, turned on the light, and felt instantly at peace seeing everything so familiar.
