"I'm going out to take a look." Gu Lingxiao opened the door and rushed out.
Xiao Zhang followed closely behind and ran out as well. The mission of soldiers is to be the first to rush to the front lines whenever the people are in danger, even if it means facing mountains of knives and seas of fire!
Lu Zhixia took the umbrella and gently opened the door. As she held the umbrella open, the torrential rain that came crashing down on her face hit the umbrella directly.
She discovered that the fire was at Aunt Pang's house, and smoke was coming out of her house. The two of them were nowhere to be seen, so they must have gone inside.
The wind was even stronger than before, and the umbrella in my hand couldn't hold it up at all. Rainwater blew into my eyes, so I could only squint to see what was ahead.
"Did Aunt Pang's house catch fire?" Su Lan asked.
"Yes, there's a fire. Captain Gu and Xiao Zhang went to put it out."
Lu Zhixia simply closed her umbrella; her clothes were already soaked through, and she was feeling chilled to the bone.
Fortunately, I was wearing slippers, so I didn't feel like I was stepping in water.
"It must have been the power outage that caused a short circuit, which then led to the fire. My house caught fire like that once, and ever since then, I always turn off the power whenever there's thunder."
"This darn weather! It changes so quickly, it's fine during the day, but then it starts thundering and lightning at night."
Lu Zhixia belatedly realized that she hadn't been afraid of the thunder earlier.
With a crack, another bolt of lightning struck.
Her body involuntarily shuddered.
"Sister Lan, come to my house for a while."
"What's wrong? Your voice is trembling."
"Come home with me first, and then I'll tell you."
Lu Zhixia turned to the side and waited for Su Lan to go in before closing the door. If you looked closely, you could see that her hands were trembling and she kept retreating into the corner.
After Su Lan came in, she took off her raincoat, extinguished the candles on the ground, and used her flashlight to find a match and light it.
Turning around, I saw Lu Zhixia huddled in the corner, trembling, as if she were afraid of something.
"What's wrong with you!" Su Lan walked over and squatted down.
Lu Zhixia looked up at her and said, "Sister Lan! Can I hug you for a while?"
“Of course!” Su Lan opened her arms and hugged her.
I could feel her body trembling, then gradually calming down.
What's wrong with you?
"I have a chronic condition from childhood: I'm afraid of thunder."
Lu Zhixia felt incredibly pathetic; she couldn't let the lightning strike her.
But why weren't you afraid just now?
Could it be that she wasn't afraid because Gu Lingxiao was by her side?
After thinking it over, this was the only explanation I could come up with. My heartbeat gradually calmed down, and the thunder outside disappeared.
Lu Zhixia then let go of the wall and slowly stood up.
"Okay, I'm fine now."
Did something bad happen to you when you were a child?
Su Lan reached out to help the person up and then they walked together to the bedside.
Lu Zhixia looked up and said, "When I was a child, I saw the big tree in front of the door get struck by lightning, and I've had this problem ever since, I'm afraid of thunder."
"I see. Then next time it thunders, I'll come and sleep with you." Su Lan helped him sit down on the bed.
"It'll be better if someone's with you."
"Would this be too much trouble for you?" Lu Zhixia was very grateful to Su Lan; she was truly wonderful to her.
"What's the big deal?" Su Lan laughed. "Besides, your bed is spacious, I'll be able to get a good night's sleep!"
Lu Zhixia rested her head on her shoulder. "If that's how you put it, then I won't hold back."
A clap of thunder sounded outside, but she only frowned slightly, not as frightened as before.
It seems that as long as she has someone who makes her feel at ease by her side, she is not afraid of thunder.
They chatted for a while longer until they heard footsteps outside.
The door opened and the two of them came in looking disheveled, their faces covered in soot from the smoke. Anyone who didn't know better would have thought they were two black men. Water was dripping from under their clothes.
Lu Zhixia quickly walked over and handed them towels, saying, "You two hurry up and wipe your faces, you look like you just came out of a coal mine..."
Gu Lingxiao wiped his face with a towel and then realized that his face was dirty at some point, and the towel was covered in dust.
I estimate it won't be usable again after this one, because it's difficult to wash.
"It's dirty."
"It's okay, you can use it without worry. It's okay if it gets dirty."
Lu Zhixia looked them over from head to toe and was relieved to find that they had no obvious injuries.
Gu Lingxiao turned to look at Xiao Zhang and noticed that his face was quite dark. He knew that his face would only look worse, so he quickly wiped it carefully with a towel.
Xiao Zhang turned around and looked at himself in the mirror. "Wow, that smoke is really toxic!"
Su Lan walked over and asked, "How is it? Is the fire out?"
Xiao Zhang nodded, "The fire has been extinguished. There were no casualties. Luckily, it was discovered in time, otherwise the whole area of houses might have been on fire."
Su Lan looked outside and saw that the rain had subsided considerably. "It really proves the saying, 'If it's a blessing in disguise, it's not a curse.' As long as we can avoid it, that's good!"
Thinking that their clothes were also wet, I said, "I'll go back and find you two more sets of work clothes to change into."
Gu Lingxiao: "No need, this is too much trouble, changing things back and forth."
Su Lan said, "It's so hot and cold, if you don't change your clothes soon, you'll get sick tomorrow."
Without waiting for a reply, she slipped past them and went home to get her clothes.
Gu Lingxiao couldn't refute that domineering attitude, and he was indeed uncomfortable being all wet.
Seeing that Gu Lingxiao's face was still covered in ashes, Lu Zhixia took the towel from his hand and wiped his face.
Looking at the woman so close to him, Gu Lingxiao involuntarily swallowed to compose himself.
