Chapter 142 Buying Antiques at Your Doorstep

Lu Zhixia remembered she still needed to get her bag, so she turned back into the house. When she came out again, she told Gu Lingxiao...

"Alright, you can go now."

"Where are you all going?" Su Lan couldn't help but ask.

Lu Zhixia turned around and said, "We're going out to take care of some things. We'll be back this afternoon."

"Go ahead! Be careful on the road!" Su Lan said.

They went downstairs one after the other.

After they left, Su Lan sighed and said, "What a pity, they seemed so well-matched, but they weren't meant to be!"

"What do you mean we're not meant to be?" Old Master Bai asked.

Su Lan then expressed her concerns to the old man, "Comrade Gu is married and has children. Although Xiao Lu is divorced, we can't break up their marriage!"

Upon hearing this, Old Master Bai burst into laughter. It turned out that he wasn't the only one who had been deceived; there was someone else who had been fooled as well.

Seeing the old man laughing like that, Su Lan thought about it and realized that she hadn't said anything funny, so why was the old man so happy?

After laughing, Old Master Bai said, "Young Gu is still single!"

"What?" Su Lan exclaimed in surprise, staring at the old man in disbelief. "Doesn't he have children?"

"Having children doesn't mean you're married," Grandpa Bai said with a smile.

"But how could there be a child if he wasn't married?" Su Lan asked anxiously. "Could it be that he had the child out of wedlock with someone else? Where is the mother?"

“It’s not his child.” Old Master Bai shook the fan in his hand. “I had already found out about this before, otherwise I wouldn’t have tried to match them up.”

Su Lan laughed after hearing this. It turned out they had been mistaken from the beginning. Thinking of her sister's hard life, and how she was finally happy, she was even happier than if she had found a fortune. So she spoke to her grandfather again...

Who is that child?

“It was the child of his deceased comrade-in-arms, whom he adopted, so he has a child.”

"How could I not have thought of that? Look at how attentive he is, he's obviously pursuing a girl." Su Lan thought back to her previous thoughts and couldn't help but laugh and cry. Why didn't she ask him?

"I think they're a good match, but I wonder when we'll be able to attend their wedding." Old Master Bai stroked his beard. "Young Gu still needs to put in a little more effort."

Su Lan nodded in agreement; she thought so too, and that the man had to take the initiative in this matter.

——

After getting into the car, Lu Zhixia took out the note from her bag and handed it to Gu Lingxiao.

"I need to go to this village on the outskirts of the city. See if you can find someone to ask where it is."

Gu Lingxiao looked at the address on the note, then turned around and said, "You don't need to ask about this place. I know it. I've been there before. It's just that the mountain roads are a bit bumpy, so you should be prepared."

Lu Zhixia was delighted to hear this. "It's great that you've been there. I need to go and collect some things. I've made an appointment with someone to go to their house to collect them."

"I'll go fill up the tank first, just in case we don't have enough gas on the way," Gu Lingxiao said.

“I have to pay for the gas,” Lu Zhixia said firmly. “I asked you to drive, and if you don’t let me pay for it, I’m getting out of the car now.”

"Okay, you can pay later." Gu Lingxiao wasn't as forceful as before.

Before the two have established a relationship, it is indeed important to be clear about certain things so as not to put Lu Zhixia under any psychological burden.

How exactly should one confess their feelings?

He had already considered many methods, but none were satisfactory yet. He wanted to strike decisively so that Lu Zhixia would have no chance to refuse.

They soon arrived at the gas station, filled up the car, Lu Zhixia paid the bill, and happily returned to the car.

They set off again, thinking the distance wouldn't be too far, but then they encountered a main road, a small turn, and a mountain road. Lu Zhixia realized that the road conditions were really bad, and she had to hold onto the handrail to keep herself upright.

I couldn't help but wonder if the address was wrong.

"Captain Gu, are you sure this is the address on the note?"

"Yes! That's right, I've been here before. I told you the mountain road is a bit bumpy, so you should be prepared."

"But this is too bumpy! How did you get here last time?"

"I was also on a mission, so I remember the way here."

Lu Zhixia glanced to the left and realized, good heavens, the road was too narrow; one wrong step and the car would overturn. So she quickly told him...

"Okay! Keep driving, and be careful!"

"I'm driving now, be careful not to bump your head," Gu Lingxiao said considerately. "If you feel uncomfortable, I can pull over and let you rest for a bit."

"No need to rest, you can just keep driving." Lu Zhixia thought that if she got out of the car and saw the cliff next to her, she would probably be even more scared when she got back in. It was better to be bumpy like this.

She didn't know how much time had passed before the car finally stopped. She got out of the car and looked at the village entrance not far away.

Then, looking back at the road behind me, I quickly drank some water to suppress the nausea and discomfort in my throat.

"Catch your breath and then we'll go in," Gu Lingxiao said.

Lu Zhixia looked up at him and saw that he remained expressionless. She thought to herself that he was indeed a soldier, and his physical fitness was top-notch.

Village Chief Yuan came out carrying a bamboo basket and saw a car at the village entrance from a distance. He found it strange, so he quickly walked over.

Upon seeing a man and a woman standing there, he immediately shouted happily when the man turned around.

"Captain Gu!"

Gu Lingxiao turned around upon hearing the voice and saw it was Village Chief Yuan, so he smiled and walked over.

"It's been a few years since I last saw you, old village chief, you look much healthier than before."

Village Chief Yuan laughed, "What are you saying? What brings you to the village?"

"Here's the thing, I brought a friend over to look for someone," Gu Lingxiao said.

Lu Zhixia learned from their conversation that they were the village chiefs, so she reached out her hand.
