Chapter 167 Heading to the Capital

"What's your background?" Gu Lingxiao asked. "You must be very tired from traveling back and forth between these two places."

Lu Zhixia said, "I want to help these children more and pray for my daughter! I don't know where she lives now, whether she has enough to eat, or whether she is warm enough." She paused and then said, "Or you can think of it as a kind of spiritual support."

Gu Lingxiao understood after hearing her words. If doing something would make her feel better, then he would respect her choice. So he said...

"Then follow your heart and do whatever you want. If I have a vacation then, I'll come back with you."

Lu Zhixia smiled; she knew it would turn out this way. No matter what she did, Gu Lingxiao always silently supported her.

When I arrived at the train waiting hall again, there were more people than before, and all the seats I saw were single seats.

Gu Lingxiao went to the window seat, put the things on the floor, and then said to Lu Zhixia,

"Please sit down first."

Lu Zhixia sat down and asked, "What about you? Would you like to sit over there?"

Gu Lingxiao said, "I don't need to. I'll just stand here for a while."

Lu Zhixia said, "Then let's take turns sitting later."

Gu Lingxiao remembered that there were fruit vendors outside, so he said, "I'll go for a walk."

“Okay, go ahead!” Lu Zhixia said.

Gu Lingxiao turned and walked towards the exit of the train station. He thought he had some snacks on the train. After exiting the gate, he subconsciously looked towards the ice cream stall, but the boy was gone.

It was a middle-aged woman who had replaced him, so he strode over to her.

The ice cream vendor saw someone approaching and immediately called out to them.

"Hey bro, wanna buy some ice cream?"

"Big sister, I want to ask you something."

Ask away, go ahead and ask.

"Is the kid who sold ice cream here before your child?"

"No!" the woman quickly denied. "That child has nothing to do with me. He came to the train station to collect recyclables once, and I felt sorry for him. So I said, 'How about I give you some ice cream to sell wholesale? That way you can earn some money and won't have to collect garbage anymore.'"

"Big sister, you're very kind. Give me two cream popsicles," Gu Lingxiao said.

"Alright!" The woman deftly took out an ice cream from the ice cream box, and then slowly said, "That child is indeed pitiful. He has no parents and was adopted by an old man. He knows how to earn money at such a young age. He's much better than my two clueless kids!"

Gu Lingxiao took the ice cream from his older sister.

"Does he come here to sell ice cream every day?"

The woman looked the man up and down; he didn't seem like a bad person.

"Tell me the truth, bro, did that brat offend you? Why are you asking about him?"

"I just wanted to help him."

"Oh, I see!" the older woman said with a smile. "This child doesn't come every day. If he does come, he'll definitely come to me. If you want to help him, give him some money next time you see him!"

"Okay, I understand." Gu Lingxiao took the ice cream and turned to walk towards the nearest fruit stand.

It seems that the child is indeed pitiful, and what he said is probably true.

I bought bananas and grapes, and then I bought some sunflower seeds and peanuts.

When I got back to the train station, I found that the ice cream had melted a bit. I should have bought some fruit first before returning to my seat.

Seeing that Lu Zhixia was chatting with the old lady next to him, she used her bag to reserve a spot for him.

"Your husband is back!" the old woman said with a smile.

Lu Zhixia turned around and saw that he had indeed returned. She quickly took the bag that was taking up space and put it on the ground.

"A guy happened to be moving to a different spot, so I took his place."

Gu Lingxiao handed her the bag, "You and your aunt eat it!"

When Lu Zhixia saw that it was ice cream inside, she immediately guessed what was going on. This guy was worried and went to find out information. No wonder he was a special forces soldier, he was cautious enough.

He took an ice cream out of the bag and gave it to the old lady.

"I'll treat you to something."

"I can't accept this," the old lady said, but her hands didn't slow down. Who could refuse an ice cream on a hot day?

"Let's eat together." Lu Zhixia peeled back the ice cream wrapper and found it was melting quickly, so she said to the old lady, "Eat it quickly, or it will melt in a bit."

The old lady took a bite and found the ice cream to be soft and mushy, so she stopped talking and focused on eating it.

I usually only buy ice cream for my child, so it's rare for me to eat one by myself.

"Dad, look, Grandma is secretly eating ice cream!" a little kid shouted from nearby.

The man, leading his son, came over aggressively.

"Mom, you shouldn't be acting like this as an elderly person! You even eat behind our backs."

"What kind of son are you? It's just an ice cream!" The old woman stood up angrily. "You three went out to eat without even inviting me!"

"Didn't I bring you some food?" The man tossed the bag over. "Here are two steamed buns; keep them for the car!"

The old man sneered, "Fine! Fine! You took the money from me and then threw me away like a rag, without even bothering to pretend!"

The man felt ashamed of being scolded, "Alright, don't say that. We've been very good to you. We've fed and drunk well these past few days. We haven't shortchanged you in any way."

The old man finally saw his son's true colors. Luckily, he had a backup plan and hadn't given away all his savings. He had raised this ungrateful son for nothing.

My grandson is just like me; I don't want to see them again.

Lu Zhixia watched a dramatic ethical dilemma and felt it necessary to explain, so she spoke to the man...

"The ice cream was what I treated the old lady to."
