Gu Lingxiao raised an eyebrow. "Shouldn't things picked up on the train be under your management?"
The train conductor smiled and said, "Since you found these things, you should keep them safe."
Gu Lingxiao looked down at the pocket watch again. Was its yellow color gold?
Is the train conductor afraid of taking responsibility, so he wants them to keep it safe?
The train conductor took out a notebook from his pocket. "Comrade! Your workplace, your work ID, and your home address!"
Having no other option, Gu Lingxiao had to show his identification and have the staff register.
Seeing that the other person had produced a military ID, the train conductor was relieved. "Then I'll keep the unit's address so it'll be easier for him to find you!"
"Sure," Gu Lingxiao said. "Gu Lingxiao, Special Forces Captain of the Southern District Unit of Changdu City!"
"Write your name in this notebook." The train conductor handed over the notebook and pen.
Gu Lingxiao wrote his name on it and then handed it back to him.
The train conductor thought there was no problem, so he smiled and said to them, "Don't worry, if the other party says there's a problem with this table later, I can vouch for you!"
Lu Zhixia looked at the train conductor and asked, "Does this mean that we can take anything we find on the train with us from now on?"
The train conductor quickly explained, "That's not it, it's just that this pocket watch is too valuable." After thinking for a moment, he simply told them, "A similar incident happened on our train before, but instead of a pocket watch, they found a pen!"
"And then what happened?" Gu Lingxiao asked.
The train conductor said, "We thought that returning the pen to him would be enough, but the man said that the pen we found was not his pen at all, but that someone had kept it for themselves."
Several people were shocked to hear this; how could someone possibly extort money from someone like this?
Lu Zhixia recalled the person who had just chased the train. He was quite good-looking and looked to be around 40 years old, though he might be a little older. He appeared young to her.
He wore gold-rimmed glasses and shiny leather shoes.
The impression this person gives is that they have some money and are also cultured.
Do you remember any of the customers who were sitting here before?
The train attendant recalled, "It seems he came back from abroad, because sometimes he couldn't keep up with what he was saying, so he would say a few words in a foreign language."
Lu Zhixia said, "Since that's the case, you must make things clear to him. That's right, we wanted to take the pen away without permission."
The train conductor gave an awkward laugh. "Don't worry, we'll explain everything!"
A silence fell over them.
"Xiao Zhao!" someone called from outside.
"Coming, I'll be right there!" The train attendant turned and left; the man and woman exuded an overwhelming aura.
He was a little scared, but after quickly finishing his work, he went to a corner and patted his chest. Luckily, he didn't say anything more!
I need to watch my mouth; I can't keep talking nonsense!
Gu Lingxiao checked the pocket watch and found it was not damaged.
Lu Zhixia saw a photo of a man and a woman inside the pocket watch. They looked to be in their early twenties. The photo was a bit faded, indicating that it had been embedded in the watch for a long time.
"They must be a couple; the woman looks a bit like me."
"They do look somewhat alike, especially your eyes."
"That's such a coincidence!"
"I reckon the woman in the photo is not young anymore."
"So you'll have to take this pocket watch back with you?"
"That's the only way. If I hand it over to another train station and it gets lost, I'll be responsible."
"Seriously, even taking a bus can cause trouble!"
"It's okay. I don't think that person is a real person. We'll just have to let him come and pick it up himself."
"That's all we can do." Lu Zhixia yawned involuntarily. "I'm a little sleepy. Are you sleepy too?"
"You need to eat something before you can sleep," Gu Lingxiao said.
At this moment, Lu Zhixia thought of the braised donkey meat in the paper bag.
"You've reminded me, we have something good to eat, it would be nice if we had some rice right now."
"I'll go check the restaurant," Gu Lingxiao said, standing up. "Is there anything else you'd like to eat?"
Lu Zhixia thought for a moment and then told him,
"If there's soup, get a bowl of soup. Eating only rice and donkey meat is too dry."
"Okay, I understand." Gu Lingxiao turned and walked out of the private room. He noticed the dining car on his right when he got into the car.
After walking through two carriages, I saw the train conductor standing and chatting with some people. While they were smoking, he was just chatting and not smoking.
"Brother, it's really interesting to listen to you talk. I'm not lonely at all."
"You're quite an interesting guy, and you're really honest!"
The two exchanged compliments and laughed heartily.
Gu Lingxiao walked over, exchanged a glance with the train conductor, nodded slightly, and then continued walking inside.
"Brother, where are you going?" the train conductor asked.
"Go to the dining car and buy some rice and soup," Gu Lingxiao replied.
"Then I'll take you there!" the train conductor said warmly.
"Are there any discounts?" Gu Lingxiao asked in return.
The train conductor scratched his head. "I guess so! Anyway, I'll go with them, and I'm sure I can get more stuff. I haven't eaten either, so I'll go get some food!"
"Alright, you can come along then!" Gu Lingxiao knew that every job was difficult, and this person looked young, so he was probably afraid of causing trouble.
Later, while waiting in line, I listened to the train conductor rambling on and on.
I knew he came from a rural background and had only been doing this job for less than two months, meaning he hadn't been officially hired yet.
Now everything makes sense; if he gets into trouble, it will be difficult for him to get a permanent position.
