"The refrigerator is nice, but it's very expensive." Su Languang felt a pang of guilt thinking about how much money she had spent—it cost several hundred yuan!
Lu Zhixia: "There are gains and losses. Anyway, as long as it's something that makes money, adding it is definitely not a loss!"
Zhou Cheng agreed, saying, "That's right, Xia is absolutely right, that's what I think too!"
Su Lan felt that her husband had a much broader perspective and was not as timid as before.
The meal was quickly finished, and the children were responsible for picking up the bowls and chopsticks and putting them in the basin, then carrying them together to the washroom to wash them clean.
Gu Huailin went along to help; he used to do this kind of work often.
But here, he was working with a group of children, which made him feel that working was a happy thing.
Lu Zhixia was sitting on the bed making a schoolbag when she heard the door open. When she saw Gu Huailin come in, her little face turned red and she looked extremely cute.
"Mom, I've finished washing all the dishes! Aunt Lan praised me for being so capable!"
"Hurry up and wipe your hands clean. By the way, have you gone to the bathroom?"
"I just went there."
"That's good. Go to bed in a bit, and I'll take you to school tomorrow morning." Lu Zhixia lowered her head and continued sewing her schoolbag.
"Is this for me?" Gu Huailin looked at the beautiful canvas bag in front of him, which had patterns sewn onto it with scraps of fabric.
"Do you like it?" Lu Zhixia showed her the backpack. "Isn't it a little too girly?"
"I love it so much!" Gu Huailin touched the schoolbag with great affection.
Lu Zhixia said, "I'll give you some money. Buy yourself some stationery at the school gate. Buy whatever you need."
He took a dollar out of his wallet and gave it to the child.
Gu Huailin shook his head, "This is too much, I can't use it all, just give me two cents!"
Lu Zhixia said, "Carry extra money with you when you go out, just in case there's an emergency."
Gu Huailin was persuaded, "Okay, then I'll take these, please don't give me any more!"
Lu Zhixia sewed a few more stitches to finish the schoolbag, then put the money in the small pocket inside. "See? From now on, the money will be kept here. You can take it whenever you need it, and ask me for it when you're done spending it!"
Gu Huailin: "Okay, I understand."
Lu Zhixia made the bed. "Okay, you can come up and sleep now."
Gu Huailin obediently took off his shoes, but then he remembered that his feet were still wet. Just as he was about to speak, he saw his mother wiping his feet with an old towel.
Under the light, the scene before him was one he had dreamed of before.
It has finally come true.
Lu Zhixia heard the child sobbing, turned around and saw the child crying, and crying very sadly.
Tears streamed down her face, and she quickly hugged the child tightly.
"What's wrong? Why are you crying?"
"Mom, you can't abandon me!"
"I will never abandon you; you will always be my son."
You can't break your promise!
"Don't worry, absolutely not!"
"Let's pinky swear!"
"Can!"
So the two of them made a pinky promise, and Lu Zhixia got out of bed, grabbed a towel, and wiped the child's face.
"Xiao Linzi, don't overthink things anymore. I won't leave you."
"Mmm!" Gu Huailin laughed happily.
Lu Zhixia picked up the child and placed him on the other side of the bed. "Okay, you can go to sleep now."
"Mom, can you tell me a story?" Gu Huailin asked.
"Okay, I'll tell you a story!" Lu Zhixia thought for a moment and immediately began, "Once upon a time, there was a mountain—"
“There’s a temple in the mountains, and a little monk there,” Gu Huailin replied.
Lu Zhixia couldn't help but laugh. "You've heard this story before."
“Yes, my dad told me this five times!” Gu Huailin said.
Lu Zhixia thought for a moment, "Have you heard the story of Little Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Wolf?"
Gu Huailin shook his head. "Never heard of it."
Lu Zhixia then pulled the child into her arms and began to tell the story of Little Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Wolf. In fact, the beginnings were all pretty much the same, but in order to help the child fall asleep quickly, she added some plot details.
Later, the little guy finally fell asleep and gently pulled his hand away.
Lu Zhixia began to miss her daughter again at this moment. How wonderful it would be if her daughter were by her side.
I drifted off to sleep, and when I opened my eyes I noticed they were a little wet. I rubbed my eyes and realized I might have cried in my dream.
She couldn't recall what she had dreamed about, and when she looked at the clock on the wall, it was already 5:30.
So I got up to make breakfast. I can't keep eating other people's breakfasts every day; I feel like I'm being spoiled rotten.
After tying her hair up, she got out of bed, put on her shoes, and gently opened the door to look outside. She saw that Su Lan was already kneading dough on the cutting board.
What's going on here?
Su Lan patted the flour off her hands. "Today is Yuanyuan's birthday, and I was going to cook longevity noodles. Then I thought I might as well cook a lot, and that's how this big lump came about!"
Lu Zhixia said, "Then I'll contribute some eggs and fry an egg for everyone, how about that!"
Su Lan: "Sure! You take the eggs and I'll fry them!"
Lu Zhixia liked this kind of work where she only had to produce things and didn't have to do any work herself.
I went back inside and took out the basket, which contained exactly a dozen or so eggs.
She hadn't had fried eggs in a long time, and she was really craving them.
When I came back after washing my face and brushing my teeth, I saw that the noodles had already been cut and Su Lan had started cooking the soup.
Lu Zhixia remembered there was beef in the cupboard, so she went over and opened it. Not wanting to take out too large a piece, she took out a small one.
"Cut this beef into Yuanyuan's bowl. How can longevity noodles be without meat!"
"This is too extravagant. I was originally thinking of giving her two fried eggs." Su Lan felt that if she spoiled her daughter like this, what would happen when her son had his birthday?
