Grandma looked terrifying. Song Yaozu used all his strength to shake off her hand, then moved his buttocks backward, retreating continuously.
"What's going on? What are you trying to do?"
Cao Guifen reached out to grab her grandson, but in her haste, she sat up and opened her mouth wide to shout.
"Yaozu—"
"Don't scare me, it's too scary." Song Yaozu stood up, turned around, and ran away without looking back.
Cao Guifen suddenly lost all strength and collapsed, her head hitting the wall hard...
The previous dream continued: her son was so frightened in the hospital that he suffered a stroke and became paralyzed, and Chen Jianing absconded with most of the property.
Her grandson, an ignorant and incompetent man, tried to swindle her from her savings for her funeral. When he saw through her scheme, he pushed her down, and her head hit the wall.
Her daughter gave up her treatment, leaving her to die with resentment...
Song Yaozu ran a long way before stopping. He was really devastated. How did things turn out like this?
So he wandered aimlessly, and when he came to his senses, it was already broad daylight. He arrived at the foot of the tenement building.
"That person is so dirty!" the little girl said from a distance, before being pulled away by the woman next to her.
People who came after him avoided him, which made him lower his head. Then he realized that he was missing one shoe.
The pain prompted him to lift his foot, revealing several more wounds!
It came from not far away.
"Comrade Lu, taking your son to school again?" came the woman's voice.
“Yes! He’s young, so I have to take him every day,” Lu Zhixia replied.
Upon hearing the familiar voice, Song Yaozu instinctively hid in the gap between the buildings.
Then he saw Lu Zhixia pushing a bicycle, with a little boy who was half a head shorter than him following beside her.
“Mom, you don’t actually need to take me every day!” Gu Huailin said.
Lu Zhixia hopped on her bicycle. "It's such a long way to school from here. I'm worried about you taking the bus alone. You can go to school by yourself after we move to the new house!"
Gu Huailin sat up on the bicycle and asked, "Is this Xiaoming's house?"
Lu Zhixia looked back to see that the child was seated securely, then started pedaling her bicycle.
"Yes, that's the house. They've already started renovations, and we'll be able to move in soon!"
"That's wonderful!" Gu Huailin cheered happily.
As Song Yaozu watched the bicycle disappear into the distance, the events that had just transpired echoed in his mind.
The boy called Lu Zhixia's mother, and she found her child?
Then what am I?
He burst into tears, and at that moment, he hated everything in the world—including himself!
Lu Zhixia rode her bicycle to the school, repeated yesterday's routine, watched the child enter the school, then went to the bank to withdraw money, and then went to the supply and marketing cooperative.
I didn't see anyone selling fish, but I did see someone selling rabbits.
So she took out her money and bought two rabbits. Just like the fishmongers, they sold them by the size. She chose the two fattest rabbits.
I remember Sister Lan saying that she knew how to kill rabbits, otherwise she really wouldn't dare to buy them.
I rode my bicycle back downstairs, then hurriedly went upstairs.
Ten minutes had passed since the agreed time, and I was worried that they might be getting impatient.
As soon as I climbed to the third floor, I heard a commotion of voices.
"Su Lan, did she say when she'd be back?" the woman demanded. "We can't all be waiting for her!"
Su Lan smiled and said to everyone, "Anyway, there's nothing else to do, so we can wait a little longer." She glanced into the house, worried that the noise outside might disturb the old man, and whispered to them,
"Keep your voices down, I've invited a doctor to give my daughter acupuncture."
"What does that have to do with us?" the woman retorted.
Su Lan's smile turned cold. "Your voices are affecting the old man's acupuncture, which indirectly affects my daughter."
"Is it that serious?" the woman said nonchalantly. "It's just someone randomly pricking someone with a needle. What impact would it have on them if they heard us talking? It's not like their hand was shaking and they pricked the wrong spot, is it?"
Su Lan was about to curse when she saw Lu Zhixia walking over.
Those people also noticed that Lu Zhixia had returned and automatically made way for her.
Lu Zhixia took out some money from her pocket, counted out 3 yuan and 6 mao, and stuffed it into the woman's arms.
"The debt is settled, you can leave now!"
The woman lost face. She first counted the money in her pocket, then muttered to herself,
"This amount of money isn't right, is it? I remember it being more than that."
Then he looked at the others, "Do you all remember how many we counted yesterday?"
“I didn’t count,” someone replied.
"I don't remember very clearly either," said the person next to me.
Lu Zhixia memorized the faces of these people, used the key to open the door, quickly found the ledger inside, turned to page 5, and found that person's record.
"Look, it's written clearly here. It shows how many pieces you made. The count was done on-site yesterday, so the money is correct."
The woman curled her lip. "Maybe I remembered wrong. Wouldn't it have been fine if I had just brought out the ledger earlier?" She scoffed and turned to leave, refusing to admit she had made a mistake.
The remaining people lined up voluntarily, and Lu Zhixia settled their accounts according to the ledger until the last person received their money and left.
Su Lan plopped down on the stool. "It's such a thankless task. I thought they would be grateful, but they pulled this stunt instead. I'm never taking those people with me again."
Lu Zhixia said, "We'll encounter many people like this in the future. As long as we weed them out regularly, there won't be any problems. Next is the sale of these products."
