Chapter 205 Zhou Cheng's Background

Seeing that the situation was not good, Lu Zhixia followed closely behind and ran over.

Hu Youli said to Lao Wang, "Brother, you wait here, I'll go take a look too!"

As a brother, Lao Wang still wanted to offer a word of advice, so he said to him,

"Then be careful, if they start a group fight, don't get involved!"

Hu Yongli didn't reply, but quickly ran into the crowd.

When Su Lan saw Zhou Cheng violently hitting someone, she was stunned at first, then ran over and wrapped her arms around his waist.

"Stop hitting him! Stop hitting him! If you keep hitting him, you'll kill your brother!"

When Zhou Cheng heard his wife's voice, he wasn't sure at first. But when he looked down and saw the hands that were holding him, he realized it was Su Lan's. Only then did he turn around, and a wave of grievance washed over him.

"daughter in law!"

"It's alright, don't be afraid, I'm here!" Su Lan felt a pang of heartache when she saw how much weight the man had lost.

His lips were so dry and cracked they looked like white paper, and there was even blood on the surface.

Grandma Ma squeezed through the crowd and saw her youngest son lying on the ground, his face covered in blood.

"My God!" came a scream, and then he rushed over.

"Isn't Old Lady Ma alright?"

"His youngest son just said his mother was killed; that's such a blatant lie!"

"If you ask me, the boss did the right thing. His whole family wanted to monopolize the boss's family and leech off them. They're absolutely wicked!"

After a moment of deep reflection, an old man in the crowd gently touched the people next to him with his cane, and they made way for him.

This secret has been buried in his heart for nearly 40 years, and it's time to tell it.

Seeing her youngest son beaten unconscious, Old Lady Ma angrily said to her eldest son, "You madman! You murderer! If anything happens to your brother, I'll make sure you go to jail and never get out!"

"My God, is this something a mother should say?" a woman in the crowd exclaimed.

The man who brought the news said, "Aunt Ma, they're both my children. It's just that the two brothers fought once. It's not that serious, is it?"

Grandma Ma held her youngest son and wailed, "Heavens above! Take this man away! He doesn't deserve to be my son at all!"

"Ma Zhoushi!" the old man roared, "Have you forgotten what you promised me back then?"

Grandma Ma suddenly realized that she had forgotten about this old man.

Those nearby exclaimed, "How did you get noticed, old clan chief!"

The old man, leaning on his cane, said, "Today I have something to announce, it concerns Zhou Cheng!"

"You can't tell!" Old Ma shouted. "You promised me you wouldn't tell!"

"I did promise you, but things have come to this point. Before I die, I'll say what I've got to say!" the old clan chief said firmly. "You broke your promise, so don't blame me for saying this!"

Everyone was completely confused. What exactly was the old clan chief trying to say?

What is Grandma Ma afraid of?

Or is there something between them, considering they're both quite old?

Old Mrs. Ma knelt down and kowtowed, pleading, "Please don't say those words! I'll never dare to do it again!"

The old patriarch waved his hand, "You're too late to say that." Turning to face the crowd, he said, "Actually, I was referring to Zhou Cheng, not anyone from the Zhou family!"

Everyone was stunned by these words.

If someone else had said these words, they wouldn't have believed them, but since they were spoken by a highly respected elder, they couldn't help but believe them.

Lu Zhixia looked at the old man in front of her. He was very thin, probably weighing only seventy or eighty pounds. He wasn't very tall, but his eyes were very bright. Judging from his age, he was at least over 80 years old.

Zhou Cheng realized what was happening and quickly asked his grandfather, the clan chief, "Then whose family am I from?"

The old clan chief sighed, "Actually, I don't know much either. You were thrown into the bushes and I found you. As for who your parents were, I have no idea!"

Zhou Cheng stood there stunned. So it was because he wasn't his biological son that his mother didn't love him and exploited him to the fullest extent of her power, all to support her younger brother.

If that's the case, then everything makes sense. He smiled involuntarily, tears streaming down his face.

Old Mrs. Ma stood up, walked up to the clan chief, and loudly questioned, "Why did you say that? I raised him, so what if I was biased? In those days, I was able to raise him by saving food from my own mouth. I let him live or die as I pleased. What business is it of yours?"

The old clan chief said, "How can you say such a thing? You raised the child because there was some money in the package."

As more of the truth came to light, everyone scoffed at Old Lady Ma's behavior. If her eyes could kill, she would have been dead dozens of times over.

"Don't say that. If I hadn't raised him back then, he would have starved to death. What good is money if you don't have it?" Old Mrs. Ma said shamelessly. "So I am his mother, and that will never change. Besides, he has taken our surname, Zhou!"

The old patriarch tapped the ground with his cane. "I've seen shamelessness, but I've never seen anyone as shameless as you! Ma Zhoushi, if there weren't no clan rules now, I would expel you from the clan right now!"

In the past, if someone was expelled from their clan, they would have no money, no house, and no one, which meant they would starve to death outside!

Ignoring her youngest son lying unconscious on the ground, Old Lady Ma stared at the group of people before her.

"I'm already this old, do you want to force me to my death?"

The old clan chief was furious and kept coughing. He was now truly regretting why he had let this woman support Zhou Cheng back then.
