Chapter 207 Will you be jealous of your wife?

“Yueru is so beautiful, young, and has a bright future. She’s more than a match for our son. Why would he disagree?” Cai Wei said matter-of-factly. “Even if he disagrees, we can do some persuasion to get him to settle down and not focus all his attention on the military.”

Gu Dongsheng let go of his hand. "You don't understand. Actually, joining the army is the eldest brother's wish. Ling Xiao wants to be a scientific researcher. He wants to build the world's best warship!"

Cai Wei looked up at the photos on the wall and said, "God is just unfair. Why didn't the eldest brother live until now?"

Gu Dongsheng held her hand and said, "God has left us a son, so let's not ask for too much. My wish in this life is to grow old with you, then for our son to get married and have a grandson. A few years later, we can all live happily together as a family."

Cai Wei said, "That's what I think too. I feel sad from time to time. If the boss were alive, I wouldn't feel this way."

The sound of coughing came from outside.

"Is Mom feeling unwell again? I'll go check on her." Gu Dongsheng got out of bed and put on his shoes. "If she gets sick now, we won't be able to go."

"Then you should go and take a look," Cai Wei said.

Gu Dongsheng walked out of the bedroom and went up to the second floor. When he opened the door, he found his mother packing her things.

"Mom, what are you doing?"

Li Xuehua rolled her eyes at her son, "Don't think I don't know you two are going to see Ling Xiao secretly."

Gu Dongsheng quickly went over to explain to the old man, "It's not that I wanted to hide it from you on purpose, it's just that the journey is too far, and I'm afraid your body can't handle it."

Li Xuehua sat on the bed. "I know you mean well, but I feel that my health is getting worse every year. It would be good if we could see each other once! We can't wait until I die to let the children come back to see me, can we?"

"Mom, you're going too far with that!" Gu Dongsheng quickly reassured the old lady. "You'll definitely live to be a hundred years old. When that time comes, let Ling Xiao give you a few more grandsons, and you'll have a good time!"

Li Xuehua sighed, "I'll be 80 in a few years, what is there that I can't see through! My children and grandchildren have their own blessings, I just want to see them more now, so please don't stop me!"

Gu Dongsheng couldn't refuse the old lady, who was his own mother, so he could only agree, saying, "Okay, I'll take you with me, but if you feel unwell on the way, you must tell me. Don't hide it from me; your health is quite delicate these days!"

Li Xuehua smiled, "Okay, I'm relieved to hear that. I've packed everything. Take it all downstairs, and you can bring it with you."

Gu Dongsheng wanted to see what the old lady had packed, so he squatted down and opened the box. What came into view were several red boxes on top of the clothes, which he recognized at a glance.

This box was part of his mother's dowry. Inside were several pieces of jewelry, including two particularly valuable jade bracelets. He had asked his mother to give one to his wife, but nothing came of it.

"Mom, what are you doing?"

"As for the gift for my granddaughter-in-law, I think if we're going to finalize the engagement, the gift should definitely be quite substantial." Li Xuehua walked over, casually picked up a box, and opened it. "Look at this white jade bracelet. It's been with me for decades. I don't know how much it's worth, but it'll definitely stay in my closet!"

"Mom, you wouldn't give it to Weiwei back then, so why are you willing to give it to her now?" Gu Dongsheng said, feeling indignant on behalf of his wife.

Li Xuehua pursed her lips and said, "Haven't you heard the saying, 'Mother-in-law and daughter-in-law are natural enemies'? Back then, I didn't like her, so how could I possibly bring out anything good?"

Gu Dongsheng listened to his mother's words and felt speechless.

"Why is she displeasing to the eye? Didn't Vivi behave very well?"

“What’s so good about it? In my opinion, his greatest achievement is giving me twin grandsons. He has done me no other good.” Li Xuehua thought about how she was widowed at a young age, raised her son with her meager savings, and then watched him get married and have children.

Then she saw how loving the couple was, and thinking about how she had lived a lonely and helpless life when she was young, she felt a pang of sadness.

He later chose to live separately from them because he was too jealous and ruined his son's marriage.

Now that I'm older and my legs aren't as good, in order to live a good life, I have no choice but to live with them. But I usually stay upstairs and don't go down to see them being affectionate!

Gu Dongsheng felt that the older his mother got, the more interesting her thoughts became. The old saying "old people are like children" perfectly describes this.

"Mom, so many years have passed, why are you still dwelling on these things!"

"Hmph! You guys don't understand. Wait until your son finds someone he likes and then thinks she's incredibly considerate. Just wait and see if your wife becomes demanding!"

“I believe Weiwei is definitely different from you,” Gu Dongsheng said confidently. “Besides, Ling Xiao is in the military for a long time, and we’ll be separated for long periods after we get married, so we can only dote on our daughter-in-law. How could we possibly dislike her!”

Li Xuehua rolled her eyes again. As the saying goes, fortunes change every thirty years. How could she not know what kind of person her daughter-in-law was?

"Alright, that's enough. I want to be healthy enough to see Ling Xiao. You should go downstairs now!"

"Okay, I'm going downstairs." Gu Dongsheng didn't try to persuade him any further and strode out.

He wiped the sweat from his forehead as he walked into the hallway. This mother-in-law/daughter-in-law problem is really hard to handle. Even though there's nothing wrong between them, sometimes he feels a lot of pressure.

Back in the bedroom downstairs, I saw my wife had already moved the suitcase to the corner and was sitting in front of the dressing table, rummaging through the boxes. "Are you picking out something for your daughter-in-law too?"
