Chapter 26 Finding a Bargain 1

Lu Zhixia thought it was a little girl calling out, her voice sweet and coquettish. But when the person appeared, she saw an older woman wearing a headscarf, walking over on tiptoe with a cheerful air.

He was much older than me, with a chubby face and a smiling expression, giving off a naturally comical vibe.

"Girl, I'm over 95 years old this year." Old Master Bai stroked his beard with pride, as he always said he didn't look old.

He was in better physical condition than these young people, otherwise he wouldn't have dared to go out and sell medicine. At the same time, he was also testing the market outside.

This will prevent everyone from selling their medicinal herbs at a loss.

Lu Zhixia looked at the old man with an air of otherworldly wisdom in front of her.

"Grandpa, I really didn't expect you to be able to set up a stall and sell things at your age. I thought you were only in your 60s."

"Hahahaha." Old Master Bai laughed heartily again. He was just happy to be praised for looking young!

At this moment, Lu Zhixia noticed that the old man had no missing teeth and his eyes were bright and full of spirit. She admired him greatly for being in such good condition at over 90 years old.

Bai Ying warmly took the girl's hand and said, "Come on, come home with me. I heard from Grandpa yesterday that you helped sell medicinal herbs and even helped him with the accounts."

"It was nothing, not worth mentioning." Lu Zhixia looked at her hand being held tightly; this woman was really so warm-hearted.

We were led up the hillside, and after turning a corner, we saw the old man's house, a two-story wooden and brick house.

It's a very old house, probably about as old as my grandfather.

The huge courtyard can be seen from the gate. The inner courtyard is at least several hundred square meters, and there were several people in the courtyard.

There were older people and younger people, the youngest of whom looked like they had just learned to walk. Without exception, they were all wearing ethnic minority costumes.

Upon entering the courtyard, one is greeted by numerous racks erected for drying medicinal herbs, densely packed with them.

A gentle breeze carried the scent of herbs in the air.

They warmly welcomed me into the house and sat me on the kang (a heated brick bed).

The room quickly filled with more than a dozen people, who introduced themselves to each other.

Lu Zhixia picked up her teacup and took a sip. The old man was truly blessed with many children; now, five generations lived under one roof.

So there is no doubt about his age; he is indeed 95 years old.

An elderly woman with a cane walked in from outside, her back hunched. She squinted, her hair completely white, but she walked very steadily.

"Xia, this is Grandma," Bai Ying introduced.

"Hello, Grandma!" Lu Zhixia got off the kang (a heated brick bed) and went over to help her up.

Grandpa Bai helped his wife onto the kang (a heated brick bed), asking, "Why did you come out?"

"I heard from the little one that we have some distinguished guests, so I came out." The old lady smiled, feeling unusually energetic today, so she wanted to chat with everyone.

Grandpa Bai took a comb out of his pocket and started tidying his wife's hair until he was satisfied, then he put the comb down.

Lu Zhixia envied their relationship; holding hands and growing old together, surrounded by children and grandchildren—that must be what they were like.

Those people came in quickly and left quickly, and in the blink of an eye, only a few of them were left in the room.

Grandpa Bai took an acupuncture kit out of the box.

“You told me yesterday that you had studied acupuncture.”

"I have a superficial understanding."

"Would you like to discuss acupuncture with me?"

"As long as Grandpa doesn't mind that I don't know much, that's fine."

"No, I just want to see how much you've learned."

So they then discussed acupuncture, and after exchanging experiences, each had their own strengths.

Grandpa Bai is getting old, and he feels that it is normal for him to have high attainments, but the girl in front of him has extremely high comprehension.

Although she only had a superficial understanding, she mastered it under his guidance and became a rare medical prodigy.

"Not bad, not bad. You have a very high level of comprehension, which is rare. I'm just too old. If you were younger, I would definitely take you as my apprentice."

"Grandpa, please don't say that. I only have a little knowledge of acupuncture. To be honest, the reason I studied medicine was to take care of my mother-in-law, who became paralyzed not long after I married into the family. I took care of her for several years. Later, an old doctor said that as long as I persisted with acupuncture, there was a 10% chance of a miracle."

"So, how is she? Has she stood up yet?" Old Master Bai asked curiously.

Lu Zhixia took a sip of tea and then said, "She was almost able to stand up, but then I discovered the true colors of their family. I chose to divorce her through the courts, and she will never be able to stand up again in her life."

Grandpa Bai stroked his beard. He roughly guessed what was going on. No wonder a young girl would sell ice cream to make money.

It's so heartbreaking, so I immediately said to Bai Ying who was standing next to me,

“Take her up the mountain to dig for medicinal herbs and introduce her to some herbs that are easy to find and easy to identify.”

"Okay, Grandpa." Bai Ying agreed and then went out to get the tools.

Then they went back inside to lead the people away; by then, the sun outside was already quite strong.

It doesn't really affect going up the mountain, mainly because the trees on the mountain are quite lush, and you can rest under the trees if it gets hot.

"Xiaxia, have you ever dug for medicinal herbs? How many kinds of herbs do you recognize?"

"I've only seen what the finished products look like; I don't know what they look like when they grow."

“Stay close to me. We can navigate this mountain without getting lost. But it’s different for you. If you turn in one direction, you won’t be able to find your way back.” Bai Ying took two sickles out of the basket, one for each of them.

"When you encounter weedy areas, you must use a sickle, as there may be snakes there. If they are not poisonous, it's fine. But if you encounter a poisonous one and there is no one around, it will be terrible! So using a sickle can help you avoid this danger. Actually, snakes are afraid of people too."
