Following the direction Lu Zhixia pointed, Bai Ying glanced over and saw that it was indeed ginseng, with its leaves and fruit.
She recognized it at a glance as a century-old ginseng and couldn't help but swear.
"Damn it, I've been gathering herbs here for so many days, how come I haven't found it! Am I blind?"
She couldn't help but question the meaning of life.
Lu Zhixia stood up nervously, "Is it really ginseng?"
"It's genuine, at least a hundred-year-old ginseng. Let's go dig it up, and then we can go down the mountain."
Bai Ying was both happy and excited at this moment, even though she hadn't discovered the ginseng.
But since she's the one who unearthed it, that's an honor in itself.
Lu Zhixia followed her over. "Logically speaking, this shouldn't be the case. Don't you come here often? How come you didn't notice?"
Bai Ying remembered her grandfather's words and said, "Legend has it that ginseng that is over a hundred years old can run, meaning it can move on its own."
Lu Zhixia was quite shocked, but everything in front of her told her that it might be true, otherwise such valuable medicinal materials could not have appeared here.
They soon arrived at the base of the tree, and Bai Ying took out her tools and began digging for ginseng.
"Watch me dig like this, and you'll dig just the same way next time you encounter someone. This way, you'll get ginseng of better quality and higher value."
Lu Zhixia watched Bai Ying's every move carefully; to her, everything that happened that day was extraordinary.
A red snake appeared on a branch, its tongue lolling out; its target was the two people below.
After taking aim, it whizzed down.
At the same time, Lu Zhixia sensed something was wrong. She turned around and saw a snake flying down. Instinctively, she picked up the sickle in her hand and swung it at the snake.
The red snake was cut in two, and blood splattered out.
Bai Ying turned around and saw the snake's body hurtling towards her. She quickly and nimbly flipped over to dodge it.
The snake fell to the ground, and even after its head and tail were separated, it was still moving.
When Lu Zhixia killed a snake for the first time, her heart was pounding so hard she felt like it was about to jump out of her chest.
"This is a red snake, which lives in trees year-round. I was careless just now." Bai Ying took out a handful of powder from her pocket, walked over, and threw it directly onto the snake's carcass.
The snake's head and tail stopped moving instantly; it was dead beyond any doubt.
Lu Zhixia clutched her chest. "Luckily, I glanced back just now, otherwise we would have been ambushed by this snake."
Bai Ying took out a plastic bag, picked up a twig from the ground, broke it in half, and then put the snake's carcass inside.
“This snake is highly venomous. I’m going to take it back to my grandfather and see how he handles it.”
"Why bring something poisonous back?"
"Grandpa likes to collect strange and unusual things. We're really lucky today; we found ginseng and a poisonous snake."
"And one more thing, we're all alright."
The two exchanged a smile and then continued digging for ginseng.
It only took about ten minutes to extract the ginseng.
The ginseng roots of a hundred-year-old ginseng are already half a meter long.
"How much does ginseng cost?" Lu Zhixia asked, a little curious.
Bai Ying thought for a moment and said, "At least several hundred, maybe even a thousand. Take it back and let Grandpa process it; it should fetch a good price. You found this ginseng, so the money is yours!"
“We found it together, and we’ll split the money from the sale.” Lu Zhixia had no intention of keeping the ginseng for herself.
Without Bai Ying, she wouldn't have been able to confirm that what she was looking at was ginseng, nor would she have been able to dig it out intact.
"How can that be?" Bai Yinghao said indignantly, "What's yours is yours, how could I take advantage of you!"
“We found it together. If you hadn’t dug it up, I wouldn’t have been able to extract the ginseng so perfectly.” Lu Zhixia hugged her arm. “So we’ll split the money from the sale with you.”
"Give me 20%! Otherwise I won't feel at ease." Bai Ying felt that things should be done one thing at a time. Although she had helped, she couldn't take half of the profits.
"Then let's do as you say." Seeing her serious expression, Lu Zhixia had no choice but to compromise.
Continuing to argue would only make things worse, so I thought I'd make it up to her later.
Bai Ying carefully placed the ginseng into her bag, moving with extreme caution, as if afraid of losing even a single root. Then she hung the bag around Lu Zhixia's neck and slung the basket over her own shoulder.
"Alright, let's go down now and quickly find Grandpa, give him the ginseng, and then put it in the special box."
That way we can sell it for a high price; every minute and every second is money!
"Okay, let's hurry down the mountain." Lu Zhixia was overjoyed that her start-up capital was finally secured.
They followed the same route down the mountain. The climb up was a bit tiring, but the descent was much easier.
————
The tomb raiders in the bushes were starving. They hadn't eaten for days and could only eat wild fruits from the mountains.
They had finally managed to hunt a rabbit, but when they were halfway through starting a fire, they realized that it wouldn't be good if someone found out, so they ate the half-cooked rabbit meat.
It's fair to say that if no one else comes along, they will perish in the mountains.
A pleasant sound came from not far away, sung in a dialect that they couldn't understand.
"Boss! Someone's coming!" The henchman hurriedly pushed Scarface, who was lying on the ground.
Hearing that someone was coming, Scarface immediately sat up. He and his group were tomb raiders who had recently robbed a large tomb.
Just as he was preparing to sell the stolen goods on the black market, he was spotted. So he and his brothers climbed the mountain, only to regret it once they got up there.
Although they were tomb raiders, they had very little experience in surviving in the wild. The mountains and fields were full of poisonous insects and wild beasts.
These past few days have been incredibly tough, but I don't dare to take anyone down the mountain rashly.
So he could only stay on the mountain, listening to the singing coming from afar, which was coming from a woman.
In other words, they weren't the people who came to arrest them.
He breathed a sigh of relief, but then thought that since God wanted him to die, he should at least be a romantic ghost.
"Arrest the singing women!"
The leader gave the order, and the others were very excited.
Is it time to break the monotony?
So they walked toward the sound, their hearts filled with excitement.
Ever since being attacked by the snake, Lu Zhixia had been paying close attention to her surroundings, so when she heard an unusual sound coming from the bushes, she instinctively looked over.
They were several men with disheveled hair, fierce expressions, and tattered clothes.
Her first reaction was to pick up the sickle and then say to Bai Ying,
"Run! There are bad guys!"
Bai Ying turned around and saw the scene. These people were not from the mountain. She regretted not bringing Da Huang with her.
It would be much better if the dog were here; now we have no choice but to run.
So he grabbed Lu Zhixia's hand and started running wildly down the mountain.
"Why are you running? Stop right there!" The man was getting desperate. Did he think he could let the duck he had almost caught fly away?
So he took out his gun and fired a shot into the air.
