With renewed confidence, Lu Zhixia performed acupuncture on the remaining acupoints of Gu Lingxiao, following the method she had discussed with her grandfather last time.
Grandpa would occasionally offer guidance, and she became more and more skilled at it, her technique becoming faster and faster.
After it's over.
Gu Lingxiao had more than 20 needles stuck in his shoulder and arm, and he was still sweating profusely.
"Girl, is the water I asked you to boil ready yet?"
"I'm going out to take a look."
Lu Zhixia lifted the curtain and saw that the water in the pot was boiling vigorously, so she turned to her grandfather and said...
"It's cooked!"
"Then pour out the water and let him apply a hot compress two hours later."
"Okay, I'll pour the water into the thermos right away."
Lu Zhixia lifted the curtain and went out to pour out water, leaving a little water in the pot before placing the lid on the stove to heat the buns.
The needles in Gu Lingxiao's body will be left in for more than half an hour. Judging from his furrowed brows when the needles were inserted, one can imagine how much pain it must have been in.
However, he was quite patient and didn't utter a sound from beginning to end.
Inside the house.
Grandpa Bai had been observing Gu Lingxiao's physical condition and found that his physical fitness was exceptionally good, which was quite impressive.
"Child, how many people are in your family?"
"A family of three."
"Oh, you're the only son in your family, so why did you decide to join the army?"
“I am not an only child. I originally had an older brother, but he passed away.”
"People are subject to misfortune and fortune at any time, just as the moon waxes and wanes! Leaving this world may be because his time in another world has come, and he is going to take over his post."
"Grandpa, what you said makes some sense."
Gu Lingxiao also hoped that his brother was happy in another world.
"I've lived to such an old age, seen a lot, and have more insights than you."
Grandpa Bai thinks they are both good kids and wants to bring them together; all that's left is for Lu Zhixia to get a divorce.
Then they can be together openly!
Lu Zhixia busied herself in the kitchen and quickly prepared dinner: a cold cucumber salad with vinegar, sugar, and a pinch of salt. It tasted very refreshing.
Logically, I should have added some chili oil, but I thought about how old Grandpa is.
People receiving acupuncture should avoid spicy and stimulating foods during this period, so that's the only option.
I went inside and checked the clock; it had been exactly half an hour.
"Grandpa, can we remove the needle now?"
"Okay, you can come."
"Okay, I'll do it."
Having just practiced, Lu Zhixia has become bolder. She pulled out the needles one by one and put them away, finally disinfecting them in alcohol.
As the needles were gradually removed, Gu Lingxiao's face became even sweatier, and his breathing became heavier.
“The more pain you feel, the more effective it is. As your pain decreases, it means your condition is starting to improve. This set of acupuncture techniques mainly stimulates your acupoints. In the next treatment, other acupuncture techniques will be used.” Old Master Bai slowly explained, “However, you are quite tolerant. This set of acupuncture techniques that stimulates acupoints will amplify the pain, which means it is no different from surgery without anesthesia. You can scream if you can’t help it.”
"I can tolerate it."
Gu Lingxiao groaned; the pain was too much for him to speak.
Lu Zhixia pulled out the last needle and carefully checked the injection site. She was relieved to find that there wasn't much blood coming out.
"I've heated up the steamed buns and made some cold side dishes. We can eat now." Turning to Gu Lingxiao, she said, "Do you want to go and call the soldier who drove the car in to eat as well?"
“No need, he should have already eaten out,” Gu Lingxiao said.
——
Sitting alone in the car, eating a steamed bun, Xiao Zhang noticed that it was already dark and that Captain Gu should be eating by now.
I wonder what kind of fancy meal we had.
I took a big bite of the steamed bun, then dipped some scallions in soybean paste. It tasted pretty good that way.
Lu Zhixia brought the food to the table one by one, then went to sit on the kang (a heated brick bed), where the two of them sat side by side.
The small table wasn't big enough to fit everything, and I could see the steaming hot buns on the plate.
"Are these the steamed buns you sold during the day?" Gu Lingxiao asked.
"Yes, I've been selling them for several days now. I even sold the wild boar meat from last time, wrapped it up in buns."
Lu Zhixia thought it would be nice to have some rice porridge at this moment. She took a bite of the steamed bun and felt that the taste was a little different from when it was fresh out of the steamer.
Gu Lingxiao wasn't picky about food, and he fell in love with this steamed bun after just one bite; it was just too delicious.
He loves meat and can't live without it, so this bun really resonated with him.
Lu Zhixia picked out a bone for herself, then picked out a meatier one for her grandfather. The remaining two bones had more fat and tendons, so she put them on his plate.
"These two pieces are for you."
"You even divided it up for me, little girl," Old Master Bai joked. "What if I could have another piece?"
"No, you can only eat this much at night, otherwise it will be bad for your digestion."
Lu Zhixia switched into her housekeeper mode, worried that her grandfather might eat too much and it would be bad for his health.
“You’re just like your grandma. She also takes care of my food and drink. But one piece is enough for me. Your bone is well braised.”
With a gentle nudge of his chopsticks, Grandpa Bai easily removed the meat from the bone. It was tender, flavorful, and required almost no chewing; he could simply swallow it. He exclaimed excitedly.
"It's been so long since I've had such tender and mushy meat."
"Then I'll send you the bones next time I get them."
Lu Zhixia picked up a bone and started gnawing on it. She felt that the meat was a bit overcooked, but it was suitable for the elderly. The meat on top came off easily with a bite.
